Not according to the VA gov. on CNN. He said salt. Period. And northerners know that's about as handy as screen doors on a submarine. salt n' cinders iz da norm.
He's an idiot. I read the local newspaper from Hampton. At least they seem to know what they're talking about.

We haven't had snow down here since maybe 2006 or 7. We got 6" on Christmas Eve I think it was. The last time before that was 20 years prior. We tend to be ice on bridges, tho. It.s weird, there seems to be a weather line or something about 5 miles north of us. It will get icy or rain from that line & north, but south of the line completely different.
I'm sitting down here in Deerfield Beach wondering what exactly is going on back in Virginia. The National News folks say doom and gloom while the local Norfolk station says not much. Hope it's not much. We're leaving on Monday. :)
My brother names every dog he has 'Fred'. Except for one, Jack. Jack was missing one eye.
Have a good friend with no imagination. Names his D.O.G. pronounced Deogee. ;)
I have the ads.
Me too.
Weird.

I want my minute 53 back please?...
Yep me too. Even though I like cats it would have been much more interesting if he had used live cats but, I'm afeared he woukd have been a bloody pulp by the time it was done.
I truly feel for those of you who are stuck in the middle of this winter storm. Down here, it rained like crazy for a little while last night, and then the wind came. It's still blowing out there. I went out today for a little while to run errands. That's a wrap for me. I'm NOT going back out. It's just nasty. Even the dog doesn't want to be out there. I still have gumbo in the freezer. :D
Up North they stock up on bread and milk. Down N'Orleans it's gumbo. Give me gumbo anyday. :)
I'm well aware of who they were....I stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel in NYC....address 65000....for which Glenn Miller had a song....Gene Kruppa was a great drummer, as was Buddy Rich....who I heard play in person.....but I don't think we have anyone here old enough to have had one of their songs as the class song in HS.....;)
No but they did play "In the Mood" at prom. :)

We didn't have a DJ at our prom. We'd raised enough money to have a live band, so.....that wasn't on the play list. I don't think they were too interested in playing something that was a throw back to when our parents were in HS.
You'll have to demonstrate your jitterbug for us when we all get to Florida. "In The Mood" isn't too well suited for the fox trot..;)
When I first started out as a dealer, the casinos booked a lot of the old bands for their show lounges. Harrahs had Harry James, Billy Eckstine, Louis Prima, Jerry Colonna in a regular rotation. I've stories about all of them, but that's for another time.

They're going to have to fine me for not clearing my sidewalk of the snow this time around. There's a foot out there already, it's coming down like crazy, and....their snow plows have thrown it all the way up and onto the small landing in front of my door. I can't even open the storm door on the front. I know it's not just from drifting....I can see big hard chunks....:grr:

Have a big pot of soup on the stove, and the crock pot goin.......we had a low of 30o this morning, and that is cold for we Floridians.

LOL....you should see what we have going on here. I find it most amusing to look out my back window at the cars parked there. Yesterday they pulled the wipers out away from the windows so they stood out like antennas, to keep them from freezing to the windows. I hope they don't break them off in their attempts to clean off their cars later, as now.....you can't even see there is anything buried there under the snow.

A few minutes ago 3 young people were trying to walk across the parking lot....I love my jeans, but when snow is hitting just below the knees, not the best thing to be wearing. There's going to be some cold, wet people when they get to wherever they were going.....

I am sad to report Geordi ad I didn't do so well. Only 2 boys, but with the wind blowing, tents flapping, a judge who is very rough on puppies, we got 2nd place. His brother got 1st and the point. Oh well, our time will come.
He'll get there, we are pulling for him!

Kind of pretty here, as long as I don't have to go anywhere and the power stays on.

Me neither... went out once this morning and the wind blew my skirt up, not going out again 'til it dies down at least a bit.

mmmmmmmm... GUMBO....

.........Up North they stock up on bread and milk. Down N'Orleans it's gumbo. Give me gumbo anyday. :)..........

mmmmmmmm... GUMBO....

OK!

Y'all got me wantin' some gumbo really bad (really).

We have the beginnings of some 'chicken' stock in the freezer (from a turkey we cooked last weekend), we have DIY canned tomatoes and other veggies (if needed) and whole frozen okra put up from last summer. I got out my Justin Wilson's "Homegrown Louisiana Cookin'" cookbook and will soon be perusing his recipes.

Anyone have any suggestions or 'secret' ingredients I need to use?

I'm serious.... and I'd seriously like for this to be over-the-top good!... and with spicy cornbread - baked in a cast iron skillet of course.

If you get to take him to the Westminster show....check on getting a room at the Pennsylvania Hotel. It's directly across the street from Madison Square Garden, the rates are very reasonable for NYC and dogs are welcome...:) We checked in the day after the show ended. The lobby is huge and it was filled with kennel crates, handlers and dogs. Some of them already crated, some were out for a final walk before departure. One handler was kind enough to let my granddaughter pet the beautiful white Borzoi she was giving a final brushing to. So many beautiful animals ...up close, it was wonderful to see them.

Although it would be exciting, I have no desire to take a dog to Westminster. It is a "benched" show - no crates, the dogs are on benches. It is very tight, and I don't trust other dogs in tight areas. Ya never know! We have looked into vending there, but the costs are prohibitive (vendor fee is off the charts!). But thanks for the suggestion of a hotel!

Yes Dave, those pics are nice. Just looks COLD.... The wind here today was awful, I think my ears are still whistling and my eyes ache.

I know all too well the cost of being a vendor or exhibitor for any event in NYC...;) I got rather good at searching out decent hotel rooms at a reasonable cost....never ate in the hotels....always found an all night deli to walk to for food and drinks. The year I stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel, I was exhibiting in a private show at the Waldorf.....LOL....I won't even go into the cost of my table space for that, and no way could I afford to stay there, but....if one likes to see beautiful old buildings on the inside....that's one to see. I haven't forgotten the beautifully carved mahogany elevator doors and the brass bas relief.. Just an incredibly beautiful old place, craftsmanship you don't see in modern buildings.

I seem to remember ....part....of that story...
