Damned woman, got me hooked on Downton Abbey and we watched all 5 seasons now they want $15 to see the 6th and final one. EERRRGGHH

Beats da crap outta da theaters. And ya can pause it fer da popcorn and potty breaks!

If you like that, check out Outlander. The womenfolk should enjoy it as well. The intro should say all that needs to be said.

If you like bagpipes, men being manly as hell, women being strong but still feminine (I don't mean that in an offensive way), and the 1700's and 1940's, you'll like Outlander.

TrikStari,

That's been on my back burner which I never lit. Gonna have to check it out. Thanx!

AND, since my remaining synapse doesn't recall your appearance upon da porches, if this is your porch premiere, welcome to da grand porch clan! If I'm wrong, welcome, again, to da grand porch clan...

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' bout :headbang:

Rockin' out to it right now (ok, well, rockin' back and forth in my seat)

Around this house, everybody knows that Sunday a.m. just after daybreak, there's gonna be some smooth jazz playing around here, and depending on the weather, I might put a bluetooth boombox (never thot I'd hear myself say that) out on the deck, and play music thru the phone from in the utility room. Low volume, soft & sweet so the music barely just does blend with the background of the woods waking up, no traffic of other human sounds until later.
umanbean, sounds like my kind of Sunday morning. I do similar in the garage tinkering with the cars. But the smooth Jazz is going, the coffee is hot and the Pups are keeping me straight. :thumb:

If you're still talkin' dancing... braggart!

russel,

There is a time when da son learns more than da Dad! Hopefully when it really counts, he'll seek your advice and assistance.

Fortunately, I did get to assist my Dad. Actually, I'm at da point where my daughters and their husbands are helpful beyond my capabilities!

For everyone here, please never be too proud and reject your progeny's advice when they truly love you!!! Hey, ya did what ya thought best fer 'em... let 'em return da same!
I know he has experience and good advice, but i also know that he is a bitter old man who loves nothing more than to ruin someones day, i also know that he takes every word the local news man says as gospel.

Well, this is my first appearance on The Back Porch. Although my experiences in High School and for several years after have left me with plenty of "back porch" experience. Nothing like it.

As for Outlander, it's the only show I currently follow. I was a fan of the books, so much so that I got kicked out of English class in 9th and 10th grade for reading them instead of reading the tiny books we were supposed to be reading in class (because I'd already finished them).

I've read some of the good, fantasy/sci-fi classics over the years. Harry Potter, Space Odyssey, Lord of The Rings (including The Silmarillion, which was a challenge even for me), and Enders Game. Out of all of them, The Outlander Series is my absolute favorite. The author, Diana Gabaldon, wrote the first book, simply as an exercise in learning how to write a book. It did so well that it became it's own series. I feel like I have lived another life in having read them. The show is being done perfectly. Literally the best book to screen adaptation I have ever seen.

Mainly because Diana Gabaldon is working with the director to make it. She knows that there are things that screen can do that book cannot, and vice versa.

The only thing they are doing that I don't like, is apparently doing 1 season per book. I would prefer 2 or three seasons per book, just because I want the series to last lol

I forgot to mention Scotch. A prerequisite for any true fan of the Highlands.

Welcome to The Porches Trik! Outlander for sure!

oh you lucky lucky woman!!!!
I was surprised when I saw him in Austin, & remembered him from Dallas. There were several places my ex would want to go club crawling. Hearing him once was enough to remember him no matter how many years between. Got to see him several times in Houston, too, but never in concert after he got big. But was suprr excited it happened for him. His music just goes straight to high emotion.
