Just so y'all know. Mom was in the Navy during WWII when you manly men were in diapers, if even born yet. Damned proud of her.
Congrats to your Mom and her service.
My wife was also in the Navy. She was our war hero! She was in country during Desert Storm. She would call me every now and then and it never failed, the call would end with another Scud missile going overhead and she would have to run off and get in her bio-gear. I have to say it was the hardest 6+ months of my life. When the bombing first started I took a week off work and spent it with her Dad. As a survivor of Iwo Jima, he wound up with a Purple Heart with 2 Stars for his service along with a Bronze Star, I figured he could help me get
through her service at that time. He was such a great man. Raised a wonderful family. Darn, my eyes are leaking again. She wrote to us, her sons and I trying to make us feel better about her safety. She wrote one time and told us we didn't have to worry about her as there were 70,000 Marines behind her. We all wrote her back telling her we would feel a lot better if the Marines were
in front of her!
When she came home we had a homecoming for her at my Mom's farm in NE Oklahoma. The youngest son told her never to do it again. He continued telling her that she had no idea how hard it was for him to get time off, he was in the Army, to come to the homecoming. He told her she had no idea how hard it was to admit to his Captain that it was for a returning soldier from Desert Storm. And admitting it was his Mother who was returning. He told her, "you have no idea how hard it was to tell my Captain that my Mother has seen more action than he has and he was in the Army Infantry!"
Well, everyone, have a good night.
Oh, congrats on winning the
mod, Matt!
