Today's goggling has been all about Atrial Fibrillation, commonly called AFib. That is what his heart has been doing and could very well be the cause of his stroke.

The swelling did not go down enough for them to take him off the respirator but they did turn it down and the nice man told me he was basically breathing on his own and had great volume. So that is still good news. I saw dad's face when the doctor said they were not going to remove it so there is no doubt that he understands what is going on because he was highly agitated.

In defense of the younger generations....How many of us have gone into the forest to gather herbs, roots and made our own medicines? Does anyone here know the first thing about making soap from scratch? Most likely not....we go to the store and buy it without thinking about it.

I'd guess we all knew how to count back change because we needed to know how, registers didn't provide that information. What they're taught in school is not dictated by the students, but by adults.

Manners, or lack of, are taught to them by parents, so.......

How many of us use google? My family could never have afforded an encyclopedia set.......just saying.....

As to dealing with adversity and or pain, that's not a generational thing. Some of us grin and bear it, others moan and whine about every little thing.

I'll get down off my soap box now.......just hate waking up to read negativity in the posts.

Torey,

Medical recovery is rarely an instantaneous event. But in light of your appreciated reports, we are just as encouraged as you and yours. Obviously, you're of da same 'cut' as your Dad! Be assured dat we're here doin' all we can from dis side of da keyboard. Just let us know if there's anything we can do to lighten your 'load'!

Just keep doin' what you're doin' and let your Dad vent if he needs.

Luv ya, Sweetheart!!!

Heh. You can tell you are hanging out with older people when you hear complaints about younger people.

If things were really as bad as painted... the world would have blown up 1000 years ago.

speaking of not as bad as painted...
my Air conditioner stopped working right about 1pm today. I was working away (yeah, I work from home) and something just didn't seem right. then about 1:30 I realized the air conditioner had not shut off for a loooong time. went to look - set for 78 and it was showing 84.
turned it to 80 and called for a tech to come look at it.

darned mold had clogged the water output. It needs water in the line to work correctly, but the excess was just trickeling out instead of dripping like normal. This meant that the float switch was getting triggered by the excess condensation and not allowing the condenser to come on. Guy got that fixed and it's a nice cool 80 in my house now.
I think I will order pizza to celebrate. Might as well, since a simple clogged line cost me $180.

Still, I now know what to look for and how to fix it. :D

Are you talking about the old fuddy duddys that made that technology?

And just WHO is buying all of the electronic toys for the kids? Take another look at the adults.....

Neither could mine, regardless how hard da door-to-door 'pedia salesmen tried! Therefore, I had a free pass to our library downtown (via bike). Split my available time twix da Boy's Club fer sports and da library. Guess dat would be considered a face-to-face-fer-books nowadays.

Regardless, my daughters and their families are doing well and truly appreciate what was, concerned 'bout what is and watching/preparing fer what will be.

Generally, I do have faith in our youth... not so much for our 'system', anymore!!!

Ah, but it does seem that dealing with it isn't today's methods. More like cover up and finger pointing...
I call em the "excuses" generation. It's NEVER their fault. I retired from the Navy instead of going for 30 because I saw it starting there and was not going to stand for it. When I went in in 1975 we were taught to take responsibility. "Yes sir, It was my fault, and I won't let it happen again."

We had the World Book Encyclopedia complete with annual updates for about 10 years. I still managed to get lousy grades!
