This is the first time I have gotten a chance to update y'all. Today I learned a new word.

D E L I R I U M - an acutely disturbed state of mind that occurs in fever, intoxication, and other disorders and is characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech.

What it really means is holding a man in bed for 8 hours and letting him hit and kick you.

Third day of running fever and has developed pneumonia in his left lung. They could not take out the tubes because the swelling still has not come down enough. (swelling from reaction to TPA)

Funny when he is resting peacefully, they make me leave the room and follow their rules but nooooooooo today I grabbed my bags and they said it was no problem for me to stay. So after 8 hours I told them I could not do it any longer. They then decided to give him a sedative and he looks like a baby right now. (maybe because of his mittens)

But looking on the bright side (I always try to) the nurse made some homemade chicken-n-dumplings and brought me 2 bowls because she said I had helped her so much. They were the best I had ever put in my mouth. I told her I would pick her dumplings over sex any day of the week. (and I meant it)

I need a hug. . . where's Iffy????

The like on your post was for the chicken soup. What a wonderful nurse! So sorry to hear about the complications your Dad is having. One day at a time Torey. Try to make sure you get some rest and make sure you keep up your strength. Prayers still coming your way. {{{{{Torey}}}}}

so sorry your dad is having complications. As others said, try to take care of yourself as much as you can. So glad you got some yummy chicken and dumplings, that was so sweet of her. At least you had some good food to keep your strength up. I know it's hard to keep your spirits up, but that's what we're here for!! try to think about the love and prayers that are coming your way for you and your dad. I've got 24 more hugs in my folder if you need em, but these were 3 of the best!! Wish I could give em in person..... but gotta wait til April for that

To all o my poacher friends, get a small wet/dry vac and suck out the drain pipe every time you change out the A/C filter when you pay your electric bill Every month. Then put a little water back into the the j trap so you don't suck air into the drain. Your A/C can cause a back draw of air to stop proper drainage and cause a flooding of your drain pan. And turn off your a/c to put a q1/4 cup of clorex in the drain pan to kill off the algea/ mold growth in the drain system. about 20 min a month. Save ya a ton of money on service calls.
Excellent advice. I too have a little float switch that shuts it off if there's a backup. Our drain line goes somewhere. I have no idea where. It's a town house and it's not going out front or out back. I'm thinking maybe into the sewer in the wall. The air handler is in the middle of the house. I fully intend to trace it out when we get back. MIL had a service contract on it so till now somebody else kept it clean. I'll be darned is I am going to pay for somebody to do that simple stuff.

Gas/petrol/stuff to make the car go was $2.39 a few days ago. The way it keeps flip flopping up and down I'm not sure what it is today.

Talking about enclycopedias, 30 years ago our son was doing a report for school and used online info. The teacher had no idea how to list his source on the bibliography. Wow, we've come a long way. Anybody actually use books these days?

Pat, glad you're home safe and sound. Sorry, haven't heard anything about your vaping tax.

Roto, got my fingers crossed for your job. I gotta say though, I've heard of several people who got laid off and thought it was the end of the world only to find an even better job. Some even said it ended up being the best thing that happened to them. All you can do is take one day at a time and keep your eyes open for opportunities.

I love the smell of an old book. I always take one when I fly so when they tell us to turn off all electronic devices, I can keep reading....and an old book is just comforting!

{{{Hugs to you, Torey}}} Hang in there, girl! You're doing an AWESOME job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear members:

The very first thread -- or post I ever read here before joining was a post written by Txtumbleweed. Sorry I am off topic in your thread. I just wanted to let people know that what is written here changed the course of my life that day. It was back in 2010 or 2011 and then I quit and have not had a cigarette in four and a half years. I had been a marathon smoker, too. About three packs a day. One person really can change the world for the better. I am able to breathe again without wheezing. I bet I have saved over 16 thousand dollars. But my health! I could never place a number on that. I wish I could thank him.

Hello and welcome to the porch. Please make yourself comfortable and join the group. Yepper - Randall (txtumbleweed) touched many of us. He was inspirational for me and my wife too. As to thanking him - you just did - I like to think his spirit is still hanging around the porch.

And a big congrats on 4 1/2 years - that's wonderful!

Wow we just got home last night it's $2.75 here.
Glad you made it home, safe and sound.
Howdy, howdy folks. Well, here I sit on day 3 of another work hitch, and I'm just now getting around here. The first day is always a little busy, checking supplies and seeing what is needed. We had Wi Fi the first day, so I was able to check email. Yesterday afternoon, I go to get on, and poof, no WiFi. We tried resetting the modem, and that didn't work. Then I went in the pilot's lounge, and they didn't have WiFi either. So, at this point, we're speculating if it was down due to the nasty weather we had, OR if it's been cut off to save money.

They are truly tightening the belt in all aspects right now. As of the 1st of October, they are releasing 4 of the apartments at the place where we are housed. We're down to 2 mechanics, the lead, and me at night. We are down to 5 aircraft. The company we are contracted out to is in danger of bankruptcy. And the saga continues. As the story goes, our company states they are not trying to lay anybody off right now, but they are offering pilots that are 65 and older, a retirement package. We do have an over abundance of pilots.

Oh well, it was a good opportunity for me to pull my general hardware cabinet into my office and continue the work I started on it by organizing it and throwing out stuff. This afternoon should be interesting to see if we have WiFi when we go back to the work site this afternoon. It's one thing for us to be without it. I can hear the pilots moaning and crying now to be without WiFi. LOL When the pilots cry, they usually get their way.

I'm happy to see that everybody is doing well at the moment, and that Ratty's father is improving. Prayer does work, ya know!! I miss you guys!!
It's amazing how much work gets done when my internet is down! Well, work AND sleeping.

We miss you too!

Welcome Suzette!! You're definitely on topic. Our Front Porch is dedicated to vaping, but pretty much everything including vaping is on topic here on the Back Porch. Yep, Txtumbleweed was, and still is, an inspiration to many of us. MikeE3 is my husband and we were very grateful to Tx as well as many others here on ECF to help us on our journey. We're both cigarette free for 4 years (after 45+ years of smoking) and I can say with certainty that although we might have made it without these good people it definitely has been much more enjoyable. We're still learning together.
