Thinking back to that long ago time at Lackland AFB....I've never forgotten the face or name of the dragon lady I had to report into that first time...Lt. Gehlsen...who immediately dressed me down because my buttons weren't 'at attention' and at a another time while standing at attention..."one of your shoulders is higher than the other"...

I didn't have a clue what she meant about the buttons at the time

When they issue uniforms in basic, they give them to you 2 sizes too big, because they expect you will gain weight.. Fatigues were a light blue shirt with white buttons, and a matching A-line skirt...also with white buttons down the front. Because the skirt was far too big, when I walked it twisted around on my waistline....therefore, when I walked in they weren't perfectly aligned with the buttons down the front of the shirt...

Those darned skirts had to be starched until they were stiff enough to stand up on their own and when we marched they swung like bells...
