Yep, JBLM is just down the road from us. Music to my ears!
Yep I went to Basic Training at Ft. Lewis. Get up when it was still dark and you could smell coal burning in the air when we were double timing our mile before breakfast and doing 72 rungs on the horizontal ladder. We got lucky we were the on Company housed in the newer barracks but the DS's made us keep that place super spotless since they were fairly new and we'd have to double time over to N. Fort to where all the training grounds were, which wasn't real fun.

At that time they had some kind of Spinal Menangitis thing so we were confined to the Fort for the whole 8 weeks while in training and the company area when not. Got marched to the PX once a week. Time to load up with cigarettes. "Light em up, Put em out" Got to see my girlfriend for 2 hours before shipping off to Ft. Lostinthewoods, MO

I think I need another cup of coffee.....almost asked you why you did basic at Ft Lewis instead of Lackland, outside of San Antonio.....until... I remembered you served in the Army not the Air Force...DUH..

I don't know if you've ever had a fairly close glimpse of a 777 flying but at my MIL's house they fly over everyday on the way from Moses Lake where they take the pilots of the new ones to, to practice take off and landing. They have a huge airfield there and then the come back to Boeing Everett plant. They have a sound all their own it's kind of a low pitched humm. Those twin engines are huge but really quiet. You can recognize them coming. GE I think strikes again.
Oh, Moses Lake! My family lived there briefly (very) when I was in elementary school. My was transferred there by Boeing. We bought a house and then sold it, all during summer vacation. There is someone else on ecf that lives there now, but I don't think she likes it. I won't mention her user name because - well, just because.

Thotz on wood. (tree kind)
Using VG. VG... vegetable. Mold?
Wood polish. Umm... usually furniture is sealed with varnish, poly, whatever. So... how do you polish da wood? Protecting the finish but not really da wood.
I don't know if being made from vegetables makes VG a vegetable. Table salt is a compound of sodium and chlorine, but that doesn't mean you're consuming chlorine when you use salt.
Yes, using VG on wood is different from using varnish. VG penetrates and helps preserve moisture whereas varnish is a sealant.

It was pretty cool having those B-52's flying around.

An amazing and awesome multi-generational air frame/weapons platform! Worked on 'em (B-52Fs wid actual tail gunner, not remote as wid da Gs) at Carswell AFB, 'Cow Town', Tx in '66.

Oh da tales to tell...

They let us see the crews quarters when they were on duty and showed us how they had just a few minutes to get out of bed suited up and be in the planes ready to go up in case a an emergency. it was way cool for a 15 year old.

Let me tell ya, da 'hot no-lone zone' Alert Pad was beyond cool fer a 19 yo Airman Second Class! Will never forget laying atop a 'ready' nuke troubleshooting a countermeasures receiver antenna problem.

BTW, da no-lone zone was within a perimeter 'round each alert pad BUFF* dat required an M-16 armed Air Police to escort ya every step! First 'visit' fer moi, a lil' unnerving, but oh soooo cool... And da alert pad chow hall kicked azz!

* Big Ugly Fat... <er... um...> Fellow <whew...> although Wikipedia tells it as it is
