It depends on which microchip company it is. But most of them charge the fees for extras that no one really needs but they dont delete the chip info from their database if the pet owner doesnt buy the extras. The one we used at the clinic (Home Again) told us that once the microchip is entered in the database it stays there forever regardless. I would suggest contacting your specific chip compsny and ask their policy.

When a dog or cat is microchipped thr client is given some paperwork that includes a Way to access the pet's account at that microchip company so the client can update the contact info.

If you all dont have that paperwork, (you lost it or adopted a pet that is already chipped but came without the paperwork) you contact the microchip company. Most of them have a policy for that. At Home Again they need to try to contact the owner. If that owner doesnt respond to them, then they register the chip to you.

At least that's what their policy was up to 2.5 years ago when I retired.
Yep thats the same chip this dog has in here Home Again.

They don't charge a fee per month. Sophie got one when we adopted her we had to pay the initial fee for that and to have her spayed. But they are no good if you don't keep the info current. Oh and for her shots.

This poor little dog thinks shes home but Alyssa can't keep her. It's a real shame. We would take her if she wasn't so far away.
Are there any rescue transporters in your area? Many shelters and dog rescue organizations have volunteer transporters who drive dogs to and from shelters or new homes. Many of them do cross-country treks relay-style.

For those who can't keep getting up but don't want the kids to suffer. Just print it and stick it on a bucket or whatever and let them serve themselves. And you'll likely find who's uh... naughty or nice. ;)

Well heres the latest on Mama if that's her name Alyssa said she is totally housebroken. She slept in her cage all night and went out with the other dogs this AM and when she came back in went right back in her cage herself and laid down. She said she would be perfect for anyone who wanted a cuddly little dog. This is her this morning.

She's been crate trained, knows where her bed is, & isn't hesitant about going into it. A crate has probably never been used for punishment then.

While we're talking about dogs here are a couple things we, in the vet business, all wished pet owners would do, aside from microchipping all their pets.

Make arrangements for pets for after you're gone with a friend or family or rescue that you trust. I cant tell you how many poor dogs and cats are turned to shelters because their owners didnt make arrangements ahead of time and often are euthanized.

Also for if you have an emergency - say you live alone and you're in an accident - someone needs to know you have a pet at home if you are unable to communicate.

These cards are great to carry in your wallet. Emergency personel in an accident scene always look through wallets. This company sells them for $4! Critter Cozy - Home Alone Wallet Card and Key Tags

Don't know and she is at work now. I'm keeping an eye on craiglist and FB. She put a posting on FB.

Plus this is her long day at work. She drives 20min each way at lunch to let them out but doesn't get home till sometime 7 or 8 at the end of the month because it's a mortgage business but I'm sure she will do fine, like was said she seems to be crate trained and she's eating and drinking so hopefully someone will come forward. Can't figure the number they called on the chip the guy said he has been called several times and this dog doesn't look like she's been on the run for a long time. She is in pretty good shape.

If that's a cell phone number likely the guy is not the original owner of that number. Some times people change cell phone numbers/companys faster than I buy new shoes.
