A legend in his own mind. ;)

True story about my dad and neighborhood associations.

My Parents lived in a retirement community outside Phoenix called Sun City West. They had a lovely condo there with a draconian condo association. The association every year required people to come pick up paper bags, kitty litter and tea light candles and then line their street and driveway with these home made luminaries during the Christmas Holidays. Even I admit it looked lovely but dad resented the heck out being required to do it. SO he wouldn't. The association would then go out and put them out for him. He would pick them up and lock them in his garage. They would come out the next night and put more out. He would pick them up and lock them in his garage. The great luminary battle went on for YEARS. They would threaten him and he would say point out where it says I have to do this in the contract (it didn't). It was just this permanent battle over some silly luminaries.

Yeah stubborn runs in the family. ;)
I love your Dad!

Yes, I am enjoying it. It makes my time pass so much faster.

Just not in a good place mentally right now
Aww, Roto, we love you! What can we do to help you shake these gloomies? I have a new med to help me not be so touchy, seems to be working so far. I'll know for sure when I hit Walmart for groceries & errands tomorrow!

The woman in the middle is another ECFer, Atchafalaya. Sorry, I guess I should have put a caption. She's been on the Porches before. There are even pictures on one of the Porch threads of her having lunch with Deb (maybe a year ago?). But, I got in on it this time!

Deb called her while I was on my way and turned our meeting into a little impromptu party.

Get back here & tell us about the wedding & trip! You can catch up after you've spilled!
The trip itself was horrendous. Well mainly the trip TO Boston. The trip home wasn't so bad. But the wedding was wonderful! I can hardly wait until I get all the pictures. There was a photographer. Plus, several other people took pictures. The DJ took a bunch of them. The photographer had already gone home before the party really got going.

The wedding itself was small, simple, and beautiful. The dinner was fairly quiet. Until the dancing started. It started slow. But, it got pretty wild. One lady even got up on a chair to dance! And, my two daughters were the life of the party. It made me cry to see them together again like that. Like they were teenagers again. They used to make up dances together and sing duets together when they were teenagers.

And watching all the older people (the groom's family and his parent's friends) having so much fun dancing was incredible. They made me laugh. But, not because they were funny. They made me laugh for joy. My daughters seemed to inspire people to dance for the sheer pleasure of it.

But I'll be sure to let Atcha know that I'm not the only one that thinks she is a beauty!;)

wonder what the bookie has to pay out,,because both #1 & #2 got killed off in order

I'm with your dad. I remember an episode of "Property Brothers" where they had to get the color paint for the outside of the house approved by the assoc. OMG.

I understand the principle behind these associations but don't anyone tell me what I can or cant do on my property. That's why we live in an unincorpoated area.

If it's by Connelly, I'll take it home without reading the cover blurb. It turns out is prefer the Lincoln Lawyer series, but any will do.
Me too. While I love the Bosch books I like the Mickey Haller character itself ever better. I wish Connelly would write another one. It's been years. I havent read any books by Connely I didnt like and I've read all of them. After Grisham he's my favorite writer. And both have a new one

I totally agree but, it doesn't have near the effect that a couple of pink flamingos on the lawn will have on the Zippy the Pinhead president of the neighborhood association. He is a died in the wool ahole who is overawed bybhis own perceived importance.

Ugh! HOAs are awful. When Mike and I were talking about downsizing I refused to look at anything with an HOA. Our choices were limited and I thought maybe we'd have to do it so I decided that if we had to have an HOA I'd immediately sign up to be on the board. Somebody has to keep a lid on their intrusion!

My nephew got married this month. His uncle on the other side, who is still single, asked my sister to dance. Was real nice, since he is very devoted to his mother. The bride's niece (?) is a very good dancer. She has long red hair, is very tiny, and has Down syndrome. Her parents finally had to pull her off the dance floor to go home. Of course, they are good dancers, too.

Nothing really. Just keep on being yourselves and let me enjoy peeking into your lives. No matter how I try to stop it, I always get a little blue around this time of year. I think it's a combination of less light, and missing the loved ones that I know won't be around.

Mama is gone now, and she was the glue that held us all together. When she was alive, we all made plans for the holidays to spend time with her. She SO loved cooking for all of us. Now, it's like every man for themselves. I know I won't see my son and grand girls. There is another one on the way, and this time it's a boy.

I'll be working for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The crew is my other family, so it won't be too bad. I'll get through it. I always do.
