Do you do what I used to do? Go to sleep at dawn?

I've got to be up in 2 hours to get my daughter and the grandkids up. Then I go to work. And the store on the way home.

Thinking about it is making me tired. Maybe I'll try again for a nap.

meanwhile, In the center of the state:
... Wind Advisory in effect from 10 am this morning to 6 PM EST
this evening...

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 10 am this morning to 6 PM EST
this evening.

* Winds... west winds 20 to 25 mph with occasional gusts up to 40
mph.

* Impacts... loose or lightweight objects should be secured. Small
tree limbs may be brought down. Very hazardous boating
conditions will occur on the intracoastal and Atlantic waters.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 25 mph and/or gusts of 40 mph
are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Good morning, Porch! Hope everyone made it through the windy weather and rain OK. No wind here, just lots of fog the last few nights. I'll take it, it sure beats the snow we normally have right now. I can see the grass and spring training for the TIger's is only a month away. We just might make it through another winter.:lol:
Everyone have a great Monday.

In other news, I got a scale to try mixing by weight. At some point this week I'll stop looking at it & give it a try.
I've owned several suitable scales for the task over the past 20 years, still do. But, I've also got suitable pipettes, syringes, beakers, et al. I guess I missed the discussions on the weight vs. measuring and how much easier weighing is supposed to be. Seems counter-intuitive to me. My experience in non-vaping scientific tinkering nudges me toward weighing solids and measuring liquids. Not cast in stone, grant you, either way will do the job given the density of the liquid. But, that's a variable which doesn't have to be considered, when nearly all of the recipes list in volume and you're measuring by volume. Is there a movement to list recipes by weight? Seems like an unnecessary complication to me.

Break it down for me, what am I missing here? It's very early, Joe & Mika woke me up with their screaming and I haven't grabbed my first cup of coffee.

{rest of forecast}
Up here on the Redneck Riviera: Wind is dying down. But, on the extended forecast, I see four consecutive days with highs below 60°.

Most calculators hhave you enter flavors by %. Then they convert the % of total recipe into mls, drops, & grams. Measure from your bottle of flavoring into the bottle you are mixing in. Tare your scale between flavors. No beakers, syringes or pipettes needed, quick clean up.

You're right. They list in percentage ... percentage volume.
I'm sure weighing would work. Never questioned that. Less precise unless density is factored in, but likely not enough to matter.

To each their own. I use volume for liquids, it seems natural to me. But we'll each accomplish the same thing in the end. :~)

Ah, something to read with my morning coffee. Thanks.

EDIT: Hmm, his first paragraph made me wince, but I'll continue, heh.

POST EDIT: Well, I read through the first three pages. Enough to see there are lots of fans. And that the thread's OP seems very dark and paranoid, at one point even suggesting digital scales could be banned from the USPS due to their use in mixing eLiquid, ROTFLOL. Fun read nonetheless, thanks for sharing.

I think I'll reserve my scale for weighing things, and continue measuring liquids the way god intended (j/k). Besides, I enjoy playing with my labware, honestly I do. But I understand how to some people the idea of a chemistry set is not an appealing one, even though for me it is an attraction.

I have found I like pipettes more than I do syringes for measuring eLiquid, but even syringes still have their place (I like the nice glass ones). The 2ml pipette has 0.02ml graduations, so you can split the difference and pretty accurately get to 0.01ml precision. And with the pump it's kind of fun. Cleanup? Part of the process and not the slightest problem for me.

Again, to each their own. Vape On! And have fun doing it!

P.S. Syringes make great water pistols, heh.

Mine were Pall Mall red, unfiltered of course! Can't believe I quit 6 months ago after 54 years. Thank you Provape and ECF.
Wow! A lot longer than my 37 years! Congratulations!

At what wind speed do people stop driving around? I drive a van.
ya i got work to do at 7
but thankfully its only about 2 hours of work :)
Hard. But, a person can usually push through for 2 hours. Take it easy.

That's the word(s) I was trying to think of 'counter-intuitive'.
Thank you. Subscribed.

Actually, due to the 1.26 g/ml density of VG, it's a pretty important factor when measuring by weight, increasing in importance with the amount of VG used. All other ingredients are close enough to 1.0 for gummint work.

If one uses flavors, esp. recipes involving several flavors, weighing sounds to me like a more convenient and accurate method, once you get the right equipment... accurate scales, mixing app that does grams, med-large squeeze bottles with drip caps... not much really...

But for now, I'll just be happy with my KISS method… take a glass beaker, pour in some of this, pour in some of that - shaken not stirred. ;)

For me, a 10 ml graduated cylinder and a 100 ml graduated cylinder are all that is needed for mixing. Unless I'm using a flavor in my mix that calls for an extremely small amount (like absinthe), the 10 ml graduated cylinder is not necessary. It would be extremely difficult, not to mention costly, to achieve the same accuracy using weight. The scale would have to be one which could measure accurately in 0.1 g increments.

But, I understand that people with undependable hands and digits have difficulty with graduated cylinders and tend to topple them during the process. I think those are the instances where weighing is most useful.

This scale, linked in the second post of the thread Kenna linked to above, ~claims~ to have 0.01g resolution for $22.49... probably not really as accurate as that, but it should do 0.1g just fine.

I don't use flavors anyway, so I just pour 40ml of 60mg/ml nic (in 100% PG) + 80ml PG + 120ml VG into a 240ml wide-mouth 'pete' bottle that my very first order of nic came in years ago. The 'graduations' are on a piece of masking tape down the side, sloppily marked long ago with a dull Sharpie... "bucket mixology" at its best. :D

I then take that (approximately) 50/50@10mg/ml and 'mix it down' to whatever I want from there, usually ~3.3mg/ml.

Shake-n-vape.

p.s. I actually do use one flavor sometimes though - 10 drops of French Vanilla to ~20ml of plain juice... sometimes, once in a great while, when I feel like splurging.

Thatvs the scale I got. Will prolly try it for a simple mix later this week.
