Times like this, (well, actually ALL the time! ) glad I'm retired and don't have to go anywhere!

Sure is pretty, though :)

Nice scene David ... but you can keep it ... we haven't had any significant snow yet this year ... holding my breadth.

Good afternoon, my dear, beloved porchers! :)

I feel that I must apologize for yet another lengthy absence due to unforeseen circumstances. Honestly, it is beginning to feel like the Universe has decided that we are considerably stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

Nearly three weeks ago now, my Darling Bride called me early in the morning just as I'd gotten in to work. She had fallen down again while trying to get out of bed to grab a towel after spilling water on herself while taking her meds. She was afraid that she'd broken her ankle. Well... she was right. I rushed home and helped her back into bed and took a good look at her ankle. Odd angle and already swelling. I splinted it, put ice on it, and tried to convince her to let me call an ambulance. She refused the ambulance and insisted that she could make it down the stairs and to the car so that I could take her in myself. Weeelllllll... 8 hours later, we'd managed to make it to the bottom of the stairs. At that point, neither of us could come up with any conceivable way to get her out the door and into the car (unless she wanted to crawl all the way out on the rough driveway). Finally, she conceded and called for an ambulance. She called the constable's office instead of 911 (constable's phone number is for non-emergency ambulance calls). 10 minutes later, a constable is knocking on my door... He's looking at me suspiciously and asking tons of questions. I just let him in the house and stepped off to the side while he questioned my Darling Bride who is sitting on the bottom step with her left ankle wrapped in a splint and propped up with an ice pack on it. Then the EMTs show up. After finding out that the injury occurred 8 hours prior, one of them starts reading me the riot act. I finally snapped and said, "Look lady. I don't make the decisions around here... she wanted to get to the hospital on her own. If it had been up to me, y'all woulda been here by 7:45 this morning, and we'd be halfway done at the ER by now." Then she started asking about medical history, medications, allergies and whatnot... I answered ALL of her questions while the other two techs were assisting my Bride. Her attitude completely changed by the time we were done. I think she finally realized that I do take care of my wife, and I am VERY familiar with everything that goes on with her. Then they loaded her up and took her to the ER while I followed behind in the car. After being in the back of the ambulance with my Darling Bride for 45 minutes, that EMT lady gave me a hug once we got to the hospital! She said she wanted to nominate me for husband of the year. :p They were even impressed with my 'splint' which was nothing more than a t-shirt that I'd wrapped around her lower leg for a cushion, two plunger handles, and an Ace bandage. Never underestimate a redneck... ;)

So, fast forward to the ER. They did x-rays and whatnot, determined that she'd not only dislocated her left ankle, but also broken the tibia (big shin bone) and fibula (smaller bone in the lower leg) where they meet the talus (top of the foot). They moved her to inpatient and scheduled a surgery. Surgery came... two screws to put the tibia back together, and a metal plate on the fibula to hold it in one piece. Then they ended up keeping her for two full weeks to manage several of her other medical issues. Apparently they weren't happy with her diabetes control, because they completely messed with her insulin pump settings. After I kicked the first endocrinologist out, they sent someone else and we got everything back under control.

She is back at home now, nonweight-bearing on her left foot for at least 6 more weeks. Still dealing with the broken left wrist from her last fall. She is relegated to living life downstairs for now; sleeping on the couch. I bought a 3" thick memory foam mattress topper to make it more comfortable for her. Rearranging the downstairs to make it more conducive to her getting around in a wheelchair for now. Setting everything up so that most things she will need throughout the day is within reach of her from the couch. It's just been a bit rough...

On top of all that, my supervisor is now retired from work; which leaves me in charge of the shop. Trying to sort through everything and get things set up with outside vendors so that I'm authorized to handle business while bouncing back and forth between work, home, and the hospital through that whole ordeal was just a bit on the far end of my ability to handle everything. Things are beginning to settle in though... at least I can finally breathe!

Sooooo.... that's the gist of what I've been up to for the past 3-4 weeks. Haven't really been able to get all caught up on the posts between the last time I was here on the Porch and now, so I'll just say that all of you have been on my mind, in my heart, and most definitely in my prayers that everyone is safe, happy, healthy, and generally well. All of my deepest, most heartfelt love to each and every one of you!!

But did you stealth vape in the waiting room ... just kidding. Good to hear from you ... just wish it wasn't 'such' a story.

Well I just had a weird experience. Yesterday the dish went out at halftime luckily I was able to stream the rest of the game, but Ginny went out and cleaned the snow off the dish like we have for 18 years and it never came back. So I called dish and they said since it has just been over 60 days since they upgraded my dish and receiver for free. They said since it was off warranty I would either have to pay $95 or sign up for their service plan for $8.99 and keep it for 6 months or pay $30 to cancel early so I went for that. He came out and fixed it in a few minutes and said the guy that installed it just snugged up one of the elevation wing nuts and didn't even tight the other so it was their fault. So I called them and said I shouldn't have to do this service plan but it always had a problem with changing channels and since I didn't call in about that I'm stuck with this service plan. I told them I had been a customer for 20 years and they would not let me out of it. So I'm going to be stuck for the 8.99 plus 30 to cancel early. What a ripoff. I am going to send them an email and tell them I will never recommend them and as soon as I can get someone to install an antenna they can kiss my you know what. The only thing we use it for is local news. If I knew one of those inside antenna would work I'd get one.

Still scattered on-off snow flurries, supposed to be abating soon.... (yeah, right)

But if they're reasonably correct, temps should soar in the next couple days and return us to our normal rain, which should get rid of it all.

And I have some nice pics for next year's Christmas cards :)

If I knew one of those inside antenna would work I'd get one.

With what Direct is charging you, why not just get one and give it a try? Seems some of the ones linked weren't all that spendy....

Oh no Kaez, no need to apologize! Talk about having a full plate. You're juggling an awful lot by yourself. I don't blame your wife for not wanting to go by ambulance, but you need to make a deal with her that the ambulance really is the way to go if there is a next time. Hopefully they'll be familiar with her history now and things will go easier. Meanwhile, make sure you take care of yourself!

Dang Kaez when it rains it pours. That is horrible. Going up and down stairs on your hands and knees is a real hassle, I know it took me 2 months before I got the courage up to try it after amputation. I don't know why it scared me so much but it did. I think it was more getting down to my hands and knees. Tell her I know just how she feels I was in the living room for 2 months, then again after my fall 5 years ago. Its no fun especially when the bathroom is upstairs. That's not what she needed now. Tell her me and Ginny are thinking and praying for her. I finally bought some knee pads for athletes because my boney knees couldn't take it. Getting from that position into the chair is no fun either.

Hey Gary how safe is it to give your actual address. Do they send anyone to your house. Seems like it would work better since my zip covers a big area and big difference in elevation.

Yeah but if you really want to find out what you need it asks for your address which like I say where I am from Nine Mile Falls is about5 miles and a 1000' elevation difference. Nine Mile Falls is where the zip is though.

FWIW, I had basic cable. Like you, just for the local news since satellite decided michigan was east coast. ($@@#%). Got about a dozen channels. With the $20 HD antenna... now get 23 channels.

I checked out Pluto TV. Meh it's free but not for me. I do want to check out USTVnow plus though. But they charge you after the first 45 days of all the networks in HD you get reverted to SD but that's not a biggie.
Oh, if yer gonna get an HD antenna... check yer tv and make sure it's got a coax cable connection. Seems the newer sets are starting to phase them out. (believe it oar knot!)
No coax and no tuner would also need a box. I have one in the motorhome that I don't use but it is a cheepy. All I have is HDMI connections.

You'll need a hdmi to coax converter then. :( But you can try a cheapo antenna on the motor home tv just to see what you get. Then invest in a hdmi converter if it works for you.
