I ~think~ we had two? Albany GA and Tallahassee FL (if lucky).

You got the shutdown procedure just right, musta been the same on all the stations 'back then'.

Believe it or not, after dark we could pick up WLS-AM (rock) out of Chicago... in So. GA!

Of course, the feds have 'ruled the airwaves' ever since early on when they realized the power, both economic and social, of broadcast. Again I ~think~ I remember hearing the reason we could get WLS was that the govt. let them turn their transmitter up to full power and 'go directional' - pointing the signal toward the mid/southern-east coast. I do know that with one transmitter connected to three towers, the signal can be tuned to 'lean' toward whatever direction chosen.... on paper, the signal looks like an long skinny oblong.
On my phone or I would have just quoted the relevant part..

I grew up near Chicago and WLS and WAXY were the stations. I always remember the station jingle - WLS in Chicago (sorry, no tunes to go along with that). When we were there last October it was fun to listen to the station I grew up with.

Well phooey! Highlighted a quote that was duplicated to get rid of it, and apparently it had highlighted all the ones above it that I couldn't see and deleted those also. Grrrrrrr here's what I remember.

forgot who posted the ISS, but that video was amazing!! Never thought about your hair stickin straight up in space! It would be so odd to have no orientation, no idea if you're upright or upside down or whatever. Also getting used to gravity again and walking etc again when you come back to earth.

@2legsshrt Sorry Ginny had such a bad reaction to the reclast. Glad you're feeling a bit better. Wanna kick that doc for forgetting to either set up the xray, or look at it or whatever. Glad they found the fracture! Really hoping you don't have or get pneumonia! So amazed with Dr Trotter! What a jewel!!

Guess who is getting a brother! Hint: They both have short legs, no tails, & bubble butts!

awwwwwwww too precious!!! Hope master Finn doesn't use you for a chew toy like his brother did! I'd never seen corgi's that were other colors than the tan/red and white. Looked em up and even found a pic of a solid white one. Love his border collie coloring with the "rottie" eyebrows!
Gonna put all the critter comments here to conserve quotes. @NCC glad they got your mom's dog back, and JUP, all that matters is she loves him!

@MikeE3 that deer video was sooooooo precious!!

@therussellv lil bit is so cute! Hope she's adjusting well to the RV also.
@Sterno, spazzy is just soooo cute!
@NCC loved the vid of spooky! Surprised she actually went out in the rain. The second part of her hiding in the one dry corner is more like most cats. I LOVED your mama singin! She's a hoot and a half!!
@umanbean purdy putti tatt!!

Max is also really pretty, but don't recall who he belongs to. I think that was the name of the smokey colored cat.

Bubble .... ... bubble .... ... LMAO ... never heard that before.

Regards of his .... ... he's cute.
lol We say that a lot here, but mostly talkin bout wimmin, usually of certain ethnicities that are prone to "baby got back" and in reference to babies cuz they often have lil bubble butts. What TV show was it back in the day. There was a black guy that was the super of a building and one of the tenants called him bubble ..... Was it Good Times??

Don't remember what this was now........but apparently I really liked it! lol

Got some great news this week!

Mail from my daughters' college yesterday - a certificate that she made the Deans List last semester!!!

Bonus-
I went to the school website and printed a copy of her transcript (3.8 gpa :D). My wife is taking that and the cert. to the insurance agent for a good student discount on our auto ins... just in time too, it renews on the 21st... yeeehaaaa!

Think I'll make this my every-Friday morning anthem :

Wahooooooooooo good for her!! And thanks for mentioning the insurance discount. I put that on my list of stuff to tell my son. He made the dean's list last semester. This semester just started.

Her photo looked so familiar so I had to look it up. Jup, she was in the chain of command when I was in the Navy. 81/82

Also brought home 3 old (XP Pro) tower PCs donated by a local company, and will see if I can install USB wifi adapters and make them work. If not, we're gonna petition the state to give us a couple-or-three computers.
that's so kewl! Tell me where to sign, they need to give those folks some puters!

Is your Fluffy hangin' off the chandelier again?!!
don't you worry bout what her fluffy is doin mister!! :p (not even gonna think about what it's doin hangin from a chandelier though) lol

Gonna take a 'break' dis evenin' and watch 'Trolls'. C'on, any film dat depicts a creature dat poops cupcakes...
hehehe well I do wanna see that, but I have a feelin that I'll agree with your review. However I really really wanna see Secret Life of Pets. Also Pete's Dragon, and several others. Finally got to see the new Jungle Book, and Finding Dory! loved em both. Specially Finding Dory.

Oh well, when I get done it will be done right.
so sorry he didn't do it right and you had even more to do! But at least you know it'll be right. Hope it was lack of knowledge/skills, rather than that he just didn't care enough to do it right.

Exodus Burped?... Is that part of the Atlas Shrugged series?

Speaking of books, has anyone read 'The Greatest Generation' by Tom Brokaw? I haven't yet,
roflmao!! I hadn't heard of the book, but wanna read it now!

Our local TV station used to sign-off at midnight. Just after the station ID blurb, and just before the test pattern came up for the rest of the night, they played the National Anthem while a powerful male voice read the poem 'High Flight'...
I remember that! also what NCC (I think) said about the sign offs. I know Orson Wells did a recording of High Flight, and I think it was him on the sign offs, but am not certain. Even though I'd hear it most every night, it never failed to give me goosebumps! or duckrumps as my ex called em.

I failed to understand their motivation since none their broadcasts were in English. Maybe their target audience was south Florida Cuban refugees who could pick the transmissions up with their dental fillings
roflmao!!!

Depending on the time frame, I remember the jingle. ;~)

I'll bet you had no idea at the time that people were listening to WLS so far away from Chicago.

OMG! One of my HA's is in the shop. Ron Riley, Larry Lujack, Art Roberts. A lot of cool old memories to listen to when I go binaural again. Never thought of old tapes. Those guys were off the wall! I listened for hours every night while doing my homework.

I'm in an ongoing effort to digitize video, photographic negatives and audio recordings. There's so much that I don't know I'll live long enough to complete the task, let alone if the task is even worthwhile. The only way it would be is if some of my younger relatives might find something interesting. Otherwise, they'll be able to repurpose some hard drives. I've got hundreds (boxes full) of tapes I haven't even touched yet.
I ran across this relic today ... it's a selfie of me programming commercials in at an automated radio station, circa 1973. I haven't changed a bit! :~)

I'm regularly running across photos and videos I either haven't seen in decades, or that I've completely forgotten about having made. Can't wait 'til I get to the audio tapes. Just not enough time to bring all those archives into the digital age. The equipment to reproduce them for digitizing is getting harder to replace/maintain.

Dunno if I remember seeing reruns of that, or if I recall a more updated but very similar one that they did later.

has anyone heard of cotton bacon ?
heard of several folks using it, but I've never tried it.

That's the first time anyone has said they thought the horses didn't like it. I do worry about that, having no wish to upset the horses. Every time they run away from it, they run back towards it, but I don't know what they're thinking.

My 4th Vaperversary slipped right past me on Thursday. Mike E mentioned it 10 days early and by the time it came around I forgot all about it. Happy Vaperversay, Big Bells!
Belated Happy anniversary! Feels great, doesn't it?

Speaking for myself, it is difficult now to believe I smoked a carton per week for 35 years or so. I can't imagine even wanting to light up a cigarette now.
