The weather is nice so I am in the workshop again. I decided to try making a pen out of the Ebony. Each of the blanks I cut have small cracks in them. It is very aggravating so I put the Ebony aside for another day. I found out that the board I have is in fact Purple Heart. I have 2 kits left so I am making another Purple Heart pen. I saw another batch of Holy Land Olivewood I think I will order. Nancy had found some and ask me to make a pen for her prayer partner. The lady was so impressed that she kept it on a holder on her fireplace mantle and wouldn't let anyone touch it. I told her that wasn't what it was intended for, I soon found out that you do NOT attempt to change the mind of an 85 year old Catholic Grandmother! I think I will get some and give them to some friends for Christmas. The wood blanks even come with certificates of authenticity. Time to place an order.

Re cracked ebony. I use a lot of cracked exotic plane sawn, quarter sawn and burls. I fill the cracks with medium gap filling CA and brass filings from the key making machine at my local hardware store. The brass looks pretty good with most types of wood too.

Any resemblance to synchronization is totally coincidental. Music is added after the fact, during editing. It really has amazed me that if I'm moving and there is music, it's generally going to appear to be synchronized without the need to make it look so in the editing process.

I DO, however, frequently match the length of my videos to the length of the piece of music that I'm using. I have a good number of videos that are 2:16 long, because that's the length of the Maple Leaf Rag piece that I often use.

I kind of figured you dubbed in the music after the fact. That's amazing that it appears sinc'd.

I don't expect anyone to recall my posts from some time ago .. I don't really expect anyone to remember posts I've made lately, for that matter .. the rants and rememberances of an old fool that many times has no where else to write about things .. back then, I wrote about shuttering my Studio and packing up my stuff .. at any rate, part of the old baggage was a box of ancient reel to reel tapes that I had hoped to get to sometime and digitize or toss if they were not worth keeping ..

In between sessions, which sometimes would last for days, I had plenty of dead time, so, I would noodle around with the gear just to kill some time .. today, I ran across my stash of old noodlings .. (some are now probably shuddering :() .. digitizing these things has to be done in real time, and I managed to finish off one old old noodle today .. so, I threw together a little thing, thinking mainly about Patrick .. so if you're out there, Pat, this one's for you ..

The tapes are not dated, but I would put this around the late 1970's, maybe the early 1980's .. it's all me, done on a multitrack recorder .. I'd put up more as I get to them, some material I recorded goes back to the 1960's .. then again, I don't want to seem pretentious or vain .. we'll see how it goes .. it's pretty crude anyway, not much room in there for vanity .. I just thought I'd share .. :)

Great collection of train pics! And how did you make the vid open full screen like that?

In the Chase Mobile App TV ad with Steph Curry and Serena Williams, Serena pays for the plaque that gets knocked off the wall by the table tennis ball even though the ball touches Curry's paddle last. This is how a potentially good ad becomes myeh.

So....if I interpret that right, instrument, voice and harmony is all you. Wow!! Please share more as you put them together...

There are some of us who can remember, and appreciate, a great deal of past posts...:)

Thank you, I would have never thought of doing that. I will have to see what I can do to save a beautiful wood.

Darn, that Amazon! Somehow I was looking at pen kits and Olive wood blanks from the Holy Land and I wound up ordering 10 of each. And you guys think you are good at helping others spend their money. I will have fun making the pens and some friends will get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I did make another pen in Purple Heart earlier today. :2cool:

No probs, I've been a hobby woodworker for 30yrs, you pick up a few things as time goes on.
Brass cuts good with hss turning tools as well but if the cracked piece is safe to rough turn I wait to apply the ca and brass until just before the finish turning stage.

Note: Brass will oxidize (turn dull and brown) when some types of film finishes are applied. Lacquer seems to leave it shiny. Most oil finishes leave the brass shiny too, until it oxidizes with age of course.
Doesn't have to be brass. Many woodworker supply stores carry plastic, crushed stone etc. to fill cracks and inlays.

Good luck and happy turning!

Just got a note for a friend from my heart group. Said she was in the closet with her baby and dogs and to pray. Shes a sweet black lady I met with heart problems worse then mine. She lives in Stockbridge GA. Must be some bad weather there.

Any news on your friend?

Well yesterday I had 2 eggs, 3 pieces of Spam, big slice of this grain and nut bread I like, for lunch I had a frozen dinner noodles alfredo that I like, for dinner I had a bbq'd boneless country style rib and a ton of green beans, an apple and 4 little graham crackers with cream cheese frosting in the middle, plus my 2 protein shakes. So my appetite is pretty good. That's way more then I was eating prior to the protein change.

Well, you're certainly packing it in. Maybe you're not putting on the weight, but the nutrients you're getting are good ones. Might at least be helping you fight off any germs lurking. A lot of people around us are sick.

Same here!

Speakin' of boneless fowl, at least once a month I fix a breakfast fer supper. Tossed a new easy keeper together last night:

Pkg Jimmy Dean Brown & Serve sausage links (12) - CRISPY, skin poppin' stage
Hash browns (4 frozen) - not just lil' crispy, but CRUNCHY
Perfect over easy eggs (4) atop da HBs - fully set white, completely runny yolk
Will definitely consume mo' in da future!

Sounds delicious! We just had breakfast for dinner - one of Mike's favorite dinners!

Does anyone know the limit (KB) on photos that we can drag and drop? Someone, I think it was @bigbells, I really like the Zebrawood, this one had the blanks cut on a diagonal to bring out the lines. This one is going to stay with me. I think I have said that before. For now, the Snow Speeder is guarding it.

That is gorgeous! I never heard of zebra wood, but wow, I love it. When we buy wood for home projects I always pick the interesting boards with knots and swirls etc.

lol I can't stand turkey sausage, or ground turkey, but dancin needs to not have the fat of regular sausage.

I don't like the "turkey" processed foods, except for the breakfast sausages made by Maple Grove or JennyO. Don't know if you have them in your area.

Try cooked cauliflower instead of potatoes. You can grate it if it's raw & it works as a mashed potato substitute, too.

I've made foux potatoes using cauliflower made just like mashed potatoes with some cream cheese mixed in. Delicious!

Now I know why Dave does a little dance after flying - heck, I was so tickled, I felt like doing backflips!

Your joy is contagious! It makes me happy just reading your posts!

Picking up this beautiful soul in the morning from a friend so I can house and her little ones. I will take them to and from the vet for shots, get neutered and spayed at 2lbs and then the heartbreak because after loving on them for weeks I will turn them over to find their forever homes. They will stay with me for about 4-5 weeks.

Bless you for caring for those little critters. Yep, it's a heartwarming and heart wrenching undertaking. It's wonderful that you're willing and able to care for them. We tried saving a kitten in our home, but our 2 cats totally freaked out so fostering would never work here. Luckily a friend from work was able to give the little guy a wonderful home the same night. Disaster averted!

Yep now shes threatening me with no more onions. You know its bad when you even wake yourself up.

Pat, you crack me up!

Just for laughs, let's assume that I have never made tater salad. :thumb:

There's lots of ways to make it. Just google potato salad recipes and pick one that uses ingredients you like. Since you like vinegar you should look for the German potato salads.

I can do rosemary if used VERY lightly. Love basil. Have never tried fresh fennel but have always wanted to. I'm not certain, but I think it's the fennel seed in italian sausage on pizzas that gives me heartburn.

I discovered fresh fennel a few years ago in cole slaw. Delicious. It has a very delicate flavor, way milder than the seeds.

@Debadoo I saw your post asking about my health this afternoon. Thanks for your interest. Rather than spend several minutes dragging you through the latest miracles of modern medicine I will say that they are proving the Peter Principle every day in every way but that cannot be fixed by mere mortals.. All of the past problems still,,exist,,,,throw in a couple of strokes, and I totaled my car then you have just another day in Paradise

Oh my. Hope you weren't hurt in the accident! And I hope you're feeling better.
