Hey did Hurricane Irma take out the Back Porch too... Dodged the bullet on damage in our area - we have a couple of neighborhoods that have actually been blocked in by fallen trees. A few destroyed homes from fallen trees, but mostly just a lot of cleanup.

Nothing compared to what hit Florida...
Posting has been exceptionally slow on the threads I watch.... I think everyone has been consumed by the hurricanes, with the most posting being done on the Irma thread...

At least you came through ok. I hope nobody was hurt in the houses where the trees fell.

As of Sunday, at least Cat 2!

All is well, but no power.

Catch y'all later...

Glad to hear you came through ok although I'm sure some AC would be helpful. From what I've heard on the news there are scads of people from all over the USA coming to help in all the stricken areas. There's an awful lot of work to do in an awfully large area.

Nope. Not dead. Was working a lot, then got caught up in a small rain shower.
Power went out for me Sunday 5:20 am. They expect it to be back by NEXT Sunday midnight (11:59 pm). Not everyone in my neighborhood lost power. Ann who lives in back of me did not. She is up north for a month to baby her son. :)
Monday evening, I got the bright idea to ask her if I could hook an extension cord to her porch. Picked up the phone.. line is dead.
great. Land Line service is out all over. Yesterday, I spent a LOT of time getting a cell phone and getting it activated. Then gave her a call and yes I can hook up to her porch.
YAY!!!
Refrigerator,1 lamp and 1 fan now hooked up. This morning, I upgraded my phone to allow me to use it as a hotspot, and I was able to login to work and get stuff done.
so, Refrigerator,1 lamp and 1 fan... and a laptop, a monitor, and IP headphones for the work phone Hooked up.
Gotta be careful there... I detect a dip in the fan each time the refrigerator cycles... too much more, and I will trip the breaker.
If the breaker trips, then I have no power because I don't havre a key to the house so I can go in the garage and flip the switch.

right now, work stuff is off, and I have switched to a home made swamp cooler since it got to 90 up in here. Now down to 87, maybe 86.
My cooler looks something like this. I have a smaller fan and pipe, but the Idea is the same.

Wow, I'm so sorry people lost homes to the falling trees. That is scary. Like the wind wasn't bad enough. Very relieved you didn't have damage, tho!

swamp cooler
(noun)
informal term for evaporative cooler.

Or in the case in humid invironments, we freeze bottles of water, and then let the air flow past to get cooled down.

That's the way to do it, Ken. Awesome! Good for you! Hope you get your power back fast without tripping a breaker.

Thank you for making it specific. Yes, hot air blowing over ice will work in Florida, so long as you have access to refrigeration.

We were only without power for a day, but that was too long for me.
It's one thing to go camping and you have the mind set for it...it's another when your plug gets pulled !

Nice to hear you're doing OK.

Not so nice hearing you're not. You just got a cell phone? You haven't had one 'till now? Holy cow!

Brilliant idea to cool off. I saw that done on the internet once, but never knew anyone who actually did it. Nice to know it works. I hope they can get you hooked up quick and I'm glad you were able to contact your neighbor and they allowed you to run a line from their house. From what I've seen on the news, although they have a lot of help coming in from everywhere, they're running into a lot of problems clearing trees and debris just to get to the wires.

Gracie Update...
they are on the way home. Stopped at son's in St Aug for the night. Son's home came through just fine and they have power. Mr FlowerSoul is going to head home and check things tomorrow so should have an update then.
Thanks for updating! Was worrying about if they'd be able to get back easily.
