Ahh my firts (and only) motorcycle, it was a Hondamitsuharlyhamasaki. It was bodged together by me and my dad out of a honda dirt bike frame and whatever parts we could find. It ran by the grace of god and was legal by the grace of small town networking.

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.

he, he ... reminds me of this one.

They will tell you that no one is able to do what you can do. (Which I'm pretty sure is true.) They will tell you that you alone are the difference between success and failure for the whole company. They'll put their hands on a stack of holy books and swear that it's the last time they'll ever ask, but that they NEED you this one more time. And then, they'll beg.

The best way you can help them, when this happens, is to say no. (Maybe you've noticed that I'm still not sold.)

Dear Roto ::

I have followed your work scenario from the get go and I have watched it evolve .. in fact, evolving to the point where there seemed to be some real concerns about future job stability, the viability of the location, etc .. I feel safe in saying that some of your willingness to "Take one for the Team" has to do with your own personal concerns and, rightfully so, your demonstrating your willingness and ability to do the Work and walk the Extra Mile or Three .. for this sacrifice you should be awarded the "Employee of the Year" award with a nice Cash Bonus, IMO ..

Unfortunately, we live in a World where much of the Corporate Philosophy is, "Do More With Less" .. while this may sound bassacwards, since they, I am sure, are paying an Overtime Premium to you, it does still save them money from actually bringing in another Real Human or two .. there is no one here that knows the intricate details of the Work and Political Climate of your Work Place .. other than you, of course ..

What to do .. ?? The following is not advice, it's just Food For Thought .. ask the Person in Charge // Schedule Maker // Grand PooBah for a One on One at a designated time and, in a very nice and diplomatic way, simply explain your scenario, that you do have a life outside work, that you don't mind sometimes throwing down on the OT, etc .. and after making a Diplomatic Statement, stop, sit quietly and wait for the reply .. this is key, and it's the toughest part .. but, by sitting quietly, you will learn a lot .. just let him / her do the talking after you've made your case ..

Many, if not most people, have an innate need to fill Dead Air .. much can be gleaned by taking advantage of this oddly pervasive trait ..

Good morning! Today's caffeinated beverage is made from seeds that I roasted 11 days ago of cherries that grew on coffee arabica trees in Colombia. Cheers!

I'm out of V8 juice so I'll see you when I get back from the grocery!
ohhhhhhh that sounds so yummy!!

I HAVE to say no this time.
Jup! I used to think NO was pronounced....no...kay while it took me decades to learn it, I finally learned it was just plain NO. But took a lot of folks taking advantage, and wearin myself to an absolute frazzle to learn it

Ugh, it's been raining for 4 days here and just checked the weather and it's going to be raining here until Sunday. We're loosing our Florida tans! Mike said we could go out on the back deck and rust instead.
lmao! too funny bout the rust. Sad ya got so much rain goin on We've had a good bit but now it's Sunny

From '70 - '72 we lived in Cold Bay, Ak. Total pop. about 150. That was a two room school house too, with 1st. - 6th. grade in one room and 7th. - 12th. in the other. Last Summer, the "Last Student" left Cold Bay and the school was closed down. Cold Bay is an interesting place, arguably the Westernmost town on the North American Continent and the home to one of the longest runways in the world, at over 3 miles. Built in WW 2 to turn the tide of the Aleutian war, it was originally made entirely of steel landing mat but is now completely paved. There was also a large Naval Base & Pier there but somehow the US managed to pass it all off as a "Fishing Village" to the Japanese. In the early 70's all the old Quonset Huts and most of the command buildings were still standing. Some were even repurposed and in use. Exploring all of that history was a better education than I even got in the two room school house. The warehouse at the end of the old pier was filled with messages written at war's end like, "Thank God the war is over! I'm goin' home, never to return to this Godforsaken place!" Check out the book "The Thousand Mile War" if you get the chance. ;)
Hope they didn't tear the school down after they closed it. That should be preserved as part of the history. That story was so kewl!!

Only one left in the house now, but he's a fixture......Orlando airport at 5:30 this morning, and then bowling, and now, I'm ready for an afternoon nap.
Good to see you!!! Hope you had a great nap. Glad you can relax a little now

he, he ... reminds me of this one.

Oh my......haven't heard that song in years! Love the part about typin up the title, and the end about what year(s) it is.

Jeez, these people need our prayers "

I don't think they will go down that road. At this point, I really don't care. I'm bonafide tired, and although I do love what I do, I DO NOT feel like going in tomorrow.

I'd try to squeeze a raise out of them and maybe doubletime instead of time and a half. Then they would have to put up or shut up.

Hopefully they won't even ask.
Matt, no raises this year. They have made that quite plain since they are cutting costs whichever way they can. Truth be told, they really would prefer NOT to have to ask anybody to work over at that base, BUT, it is a busy base with close to 30 aircraft and it's insane without a parts person.

Dear Roto ::

I thank you, Willie for taking the time to address what is going on with me. Advice duly noted and stored in the old brain cavity for future use. Truth be told, I would love nothing more than to retire right now, however, with things being the way they are, it would be unwise for me to give things up at this point.

Initially I was concerned about what is going on at my base, since the company we are contracted out to have declared bankruptcy. Now I'm just rather sitting back (not really) and studying my options. I believe that things are going on behind the scenes that we mere minions are not told about. I overheard a corporate conversation that our base is a strategic point for logistics for any oil company.

However, at this point in time, I am past tired. I am deeply fatigued, and I don't care what they have to say or how they ask. I have only one body and one brain, and it isn't young anymore. I need to take care of it. I AM going to take care of it. It's just that simple.

Anyone who has attended lots of work meetings will know all about finding things to take your mind off of pettyness.
So this morning I was in a meeting where meeting formats were being discussed. Yeah, part of the meeting was about conducting meetings.
We do work for clients, and we have meetings with them to let them know how we operate, what we can do for them and how they can help us help them.
As part of the new format, one of the intermediate groups is being removed from the project stream, and another group is having the functionally moved in with them, so the clients have fewer people to go to for answers.
Knowing how the other teams work, and how much (or little) they know what our team ones, the person responsible for the format to be used anticipated what would need to be covered with the client. Good so far.
It then, it happened... People started whining about how the other teams give misinformation to the client, or don't clarify correctly... Basically all those things we have no control over that the format person already covered.
And my first thought was...

For all those people who go to such meetings, feel free to bring this image into your heart. It really helps with adulting. As long as it's an image, and not actually SAYING what you think.

OMG ... I remember those days ... I think we had meetings to decide whether we needed a meeting to discuss a topic. Yikes!

One of the best training videos from way back when - "Meetings Bloody Meetings" by John Cleese. This is a trailer ... I don't know if the full version is available on-line.

Wow ... just wow ... I couldn't believe how fortunate I was and how generous an 'unknown' (to me) ECFer was.

Yesterday in the "Wanted" section of the classifieds I placed a post looking for a 510 Kabuki. They're not being made anymore, just a P3 threaded version that requires a P3 to 510 adapter. In the ad I stated I was willing to pay up to retail for one in very good to excellent condition.

This morning I had a CONVO from an ECFer telling me to send him my address and he'd PIF me one. Wow ... just wow I was blown away.

So @classwife, a Kubuki is coming to us. Long live ECF!

I am not going to take a chance of having multi-quotes drop my quotes again. Well, only one was lost. Great looking granddaughter. Cool pics of her party.

at least I would have made sure you took them.....and didn't take them twice...;)
I am on pain management and when I am taking my pain meds it can get confusing, well, I get confused real easy. I have started putting out my meds every morning for that day. This has helped me know that I have taken the pills when I was suppose to take them. The Dr actually ask me on one of my monthly visits where I keep my pain meds. He was quite happy when I told him I kept them locked up in a safe. He probably wouldn't have been quite as happy if he knew it was a gun safe. lol

the pressure makes me hurt so I don't like it
Oh yes, I have found out that changes in barometric pressure will cause my pain to increase. It goes up so does the pain. It goes down my pain increases. It doesn't help that living here in Oklahoma the barometric pressure changes a number of times in one day. Especially in toronado season, glad it only runs from February to November.

Psst! Got room for a not-so-older vaper? I've been vaping for just about two years and have been an ECF regular for about that long too. I've seen these back porch threads and thought I'd say hi in this one since it's a fairly new one. So hi! :D

Welcome Doomite. Pull up a chair and stay a while. Great folks here. Before I retired, I was a corporate trainer. Or as my late wife said, I was paid to stand in front of a group of folks and talk. lol

I fixed the pork chops instead of getting to go out to eat shrimp.
On one of many trips to Sam's, I discovered some chicken tenders that are already breaded. So tonight I cooked up a couple and fixed a big salad with the sliced chicken tenders. I'm a lazy cook.

So, a little about me. I work nights at a local talk radio station. Love the job, and the fact that I can just kick back N chill during the day when most other folks are at work. :thumb: I've got two cats who are spoiled rotten and a girlfriend in VA. Here's a couple pics of my kitties. :)

Ummm, you wouldn't by any chance be holding out on us would you? You got a transporter pad? Does *gone* mean the same as Poof? I think I'd have to get out my own trying pan to bop you with if you do because Mike's been working on making one for a long time and still doesn't have it figured out.

But I know the feeling and now its even worse then before I retired. I was gone for anywhere from 30-48 hours and home for any where from 8-16 hours and that was including driving time both ways and sleeping. Finally when I got about 25 years I was able to hold a job where I got 24-36 hours at home but they've taken that option away from the guys now.
