We had quite the interesting night here when my son got home. Earlier Katy and I heard a brief low rumble kinda noise, sorta like distant thunder, but not quite, and Frankie ran to the door and started barking, but not real loud and not very many times. I'd fallen asleep on the couch.......my son comes in from work bout 2:30 am and looks at me funny, says, put your shoes on. Walk outside....... wow.......how come there's a tree on the house???? Neighbors tree fell on the house, and don't think anyone lives there. Will have to find out who owns it. Only thing is... now that it's daylight.......I wanna see if the noise we heard was a chain saw cuz the wind wasn't blowing that we could tell. The house is very sound proof........ but still you'd think we'd have known that a tree fell on it. Took off part of the gutter, dunno what other damage yet.

So then, just to add to the fun, son says..........did Katy tell you that I cut part of my finger off???? o_O uhmmmmm NO!!!! It's just a tiny piece on the side, but he had to go to the ER cuz they could not get it to stop bleeding, but it was enough to take off a lil bit of the nail also. thank God it wasn't worse!
Oh no! The house & a finger? Double ouch! Hope you csn find out who owns that house!

jup that was the look my son had on his face last night! lol

Hey do any of you homeowners out there know if there is anything son or dil need to do today? The neighbors: he is deployed, she's rarely there, sometimes has a house sitter but not now. I'm sure we can find out who they are, and if nothing else, will contact him through the military, but would rather not do that if we don't have to. But do the kids need to contact their ins co (already been advised to do this), or file a police report about a delinquent tree :) or anything like that? Just to have a record of when it happened, or do anything that is time sensitive?
Yes, contact the homeowner, & contact your insurance company. Your insurance has to be notified at once. Ask them if you need a police report or anything.

And if someone was cutting it down and caused it to fall on your house...it is sooooo on them (their insurance)

And as for finding the owner...you can pull up the info on the Property Appraiser's site for your county online.
It's public information.
There won't be contact information tho...but you'll get their name.
@Debadoo I don't know why I didn't think of this. I used to check for owner info on a daily basis. Google ________ County TX Appraisal District. If you can't find it call me.

Thanks y'all. This house does mute a lot of outside sound, but I would think if the wind was blowing hard enough to break a tree that didn't already have damage, we'd have heard it. It wasn't uprooted, it actually broke near the bottom of the trunk, and is very splintered. It's still laying across the house. Hope my son is going to call from work, I told them a lot of stuff is time sensitive, and I imagine the ins. has a 24/7 claims line to at least leave a msg if nothing else, but should get a person I would think.

@classwife thanks for the insurance info. It better be on their HO's I know insurance is so screwy (sorry, but it is a lotta times) lol but they better be responsible. I've told em what to do dunno if they will. But you don't think the ins will need a police report? Is that only for car wrecks etc?

@Kenna I'm searching between being interrupted by other stuff, if I don't find it, I'll call ya. Thanks hun.

Hey, CW!! How's life? Been out to the sand bar?
I counter your pic with this:

I've been busy!

I WANTS! Sadly - I've been moving back home to Illinois - away from Colorado to help take care of my mother. As far as all that goes... well, that's a long story for many days to come.

Nice 'vapes' you two have there. Unfortunately I've packed mine away for getting ready for the 40% inventory tax.

What?! 40% TAX?! That's merely highway robbery right there! I'll be checking in from time to time with new stuff here and there... still plan on buying my vape stuff from Colorado (up to and including e-juice when needed) as the prices here in Illinois are ......ed. $25+ (USD of course) for a 30ml bottle of liquid at a couple of these shops around here. Dunno, just made me cringe the other day...

Had a similar incident happen before I reenlisted into the military - had an abandoned house next door. The tree was rotting in the back yard, finally came down - knocked power out on the entire block (possibly further) AND ripped the cable lines, telephone lines, and destroyed some kind of cover that housed MANY lines from the top of our house. Had to pay an electrician some $200 to climb up there, cut it all down, install a new one, AND rerun all the lines from it. OUR homeowners insurance wouldn't cover it - and the OWNER of the home was UNKNOWN, talk about a ....ty day.

Police report...
No...there was not a person committing a crime.

I agree, police report will do nothing special. Most law enforcement agencies will say "Do you have homeowners insurance? If so, you should probably report this incident to them." Unless your home was robbed or damaged due to home defense, at which case - the law should be the first people you contact - then unfortunately they can do nothing about it. Except help document it.
