Have you watched the show on what the Brazilian govt did to put those Olympics together. Displaced 1000's of people. Cut med care people are dying in the hallways of the hospitals, didn't clean up the sewage problems like they said they would still flowing in the streets and into the harbor. It's a mass crime against human rights. If you get HBO watch Real Sports with Bryant Gumball. It's amazing that the countries are participating. People are dying so they can put on the show for the IOC

I don't have the luxury of HBO, but.....I've seen a number of similar reports on my news channels. Conditions in Brazil have been appalling for a very long time.......

A guy I went to school with is part of the audio crew, I think for the gymnastics portion of the Olympics. He's been there setting up for a few days, occasionally posting on facebook. Many people have asked him about conditions, he hasn't answered one time so far. Makes me think the network has them on some sort of gag order.

Either that or the govt. They tried to get interviews with a lot of people on that show. Some were silenced. One thing they said is don't get sick there. If you do hope you can get to a hospital that has some kind of care. They showed people laying on guerneys in the hospitals because there were no rooms that was their room, they said they would never get one. They also showed what happened during the Sochi olympics which was by far worse. People were killed there. It was a sub tropical environment that they had to turn into a winter wonderland for Putin. They used slave labor from poor countries, no safety policies and if someone fell and died the officials would hurry and put safety gear on him after the fact. The Beijing was as bad and they are going to host the Olympics again in 2022. It's a real interesting show on how the people that make the big money is the IOC. They have huge mansions and beautiful offices that look like something from the Rich and Famous. They decide how much of the money goes to the country and how much to them.

    Gooooood Afternooooon Everyone!
it was simply a cue to lift their eyes from looking down at the game layout because something fine was passing by...;)
What a sweetheart! I'd have returned the favor for you but it sounds like you already had your eyes pretty well peeled! :D

Speaking of BattleBots... I'm hoping that Minotaur does really well and makes it to the end. They are doing very well so far, but I really just like the builder. He's such a laid back and quiet guy... very respectful and doesn't talk trash like many of the others. He definitely lets his robot do all the talking for him! :D
Yup, no more rake (that WAS a brilliant approach to the drones!) and Minotaur is really kicking ....! He does seem to be a nice guy and I hope he does well too. Just NOT as well as the Alaska team, Yeti. ;) :D He's another guy that doesn't talk a lot of smack. He didn't even think he was going to get through the first elimination rounds. We were kind of bummed about that because if you're entering into any competition, you should be determined to be victorious!
THURSDAY NIGHTS ON ABC! THURSDAY NIGHTS ON ABC! THURSDAY NIGHTS ON ABC! ;) ;) ;)

Makes me think the network has them on some sort of gag order.
I suspect you are correct. ;) No bad mouthing the host country or some such "agreement".

In Brazil they tore down people homes by the 1000's and built 11 Towers I think it was of apartments for the athletes and crew. They are going to be turned into Luxury Condos for the Brazilian elite after.
Yupper, Legs. As Yiddle said, things have been really bad in Brazil, particularly Rio for decades. The hills just outside town are filled with crappy little shanties drugs and violence. Maybe they're considering this some kind of "urban renewal".

Most all the Press that I've seen spins Rio toward "Tropical Party Friendly String Bikini Beach Blast Exotic Food Carnivàle" .. even the Ghettos seem to get some good press .. of course, Brazil wants people to visit and spend money ..

I don't think so the peoples homes who were torn down a lot of them are now homeless. It's a lot worse then you will see on network TV. The Brazilian govt made all kinds of promises to clean up the sewage and get better health care and relocate the people but they failed to follow through. Too many Billions were spent to make the place to the IOC standards. Some people will gain from it but not the poor. They had lived in these homes all their lives it was all they had.

    Hi Porchers,

Not even going to attempt to catch up! Daughter is in town for a week's visit, and I have just barely enough time to enter a contest! :) We're having such a wonderful time with the kids and family and it's such a gift for which I am so very grateful.

Anyway, will be back after she leaves and hope everyone is doing well and for those who may not, my good thoughts are with you.

See you next week sometime!! :) :)
    Enjoy your visit!

Rio De Janeiro is right on the Tropic of Capricorn, at the extreme southern limit of the Tropic Zone. Since the city is in the Southern Hemisphere, the season now is equivalent to February in the Northern Hemisphere.

Daily high temperatures are supposed to be in the high 80s tomorrow and Sunday, but except for those two days are predicted to stay below 80 for at least the next 10 days or so. I'm thinking this will reduce the chances of mosquito bites.

No, I know Legs. I was being sarcastic. They have SERIOUS problems "down there". :( As Willie pointed out, not the least of which is the Zika virus. I saw something yesterday about the Brazilian government telling the population NOT to get pregnant regardless of how desperately you may want a child. Pretty sad..........

I was holding my breath when that one danced across the floor & came bavk & bashed into the other one. Awesome!
That was amazing! I had no idea a 250 pound bot could break dance!!! :D :D :D

What is really sad to me is these athletes that have worked so hard for years to make it to the Olympics and it's either travel to this problem ridden area or maybe miss the only chance you have to be in the Olympics. I wouldn't want to have to face that decision. 3 teaspoons of water in your mouth could make you sick. I guess super glue your lips shut. I don't see how a marathon swimmer can avoid getting water in their mouths. It's disgusting.

I like the better detail. Very sharp. Welcome back!

So, is this the end of it? Ready to go home to Florida?
Yes. We'll be on the road the week after Labor Day weekend. Just to pretty much avoid the holiday traffic. We're going to take our time getting there too. Going to stop on the way down for the night and then stop at my family's in Daytona Beach for about a week. Then on to Deerfield Beach. I'll be towing my car on a dolly and Doree will be driving hers. She'll have the cat and Abby will ride with me in the motorhome. I have already arranged for RV storage about a block and a half from where we will live. Seems like a nice guy running the place and they have power available so I can work on it.

Daughter has just invited me to go to the movies with her next month....:) I'm looking forward to this one.....even if it's just a new telling of an old story... A bit of trivia for those who may not know.... The story was based on the Japanese film "The Seven Samurai"...;)

We went to see the new Star Trek movie this afternoon and they had previews of it. Looks pretty good.

I want to see the new Star Trek movie also. Haven't been to a movie theater in years - always wait for it to get to Redbox, Netflix or TV...
