Hi Porchers,
Have been in a whirlwind of 'busyness' in the last few weeks since the Odyssey, so am lagging way behind on what's happening with the Porchers.
We have another trip planned to Philly the end of the month, so we're getting ready for that.....no time to do anything extra right now, not even my gardening!! Now, that's a bummer!
Our cuz left yesterday after a month's stay, and it was, as usual, a wonderful visit.
Popped in the H/O a couple of times and said a quick 'yo' but time constraints didn't allow me to stay.
So, I apologize for not being able to post personals, but it is what it is!
Anyway, all this to say that I think of you all often and I'll check in when I can while away!

I like both honey and cottage cheese but, never have like the combination of sweet and savory. I don't even like my baked potatoes to be slightly sweet. Don't like sweet taters at all.
MMMMmmm.... I LOVE baked sweet taters! With brown sugar and butter!
Hahahaha! Just because that much power is available, doesn't mean ya have to use it all! LOL Although, I do regularly hit the 60-75W levels... dunno what I'd do if I had gigawatts...
I have a downer to post but I am pretty upset. My 93 yr old Mother-in-law, who has been living in an independent living apartment for 2 years, a real go getter, don't mess with me, kind of woman who I have admired since I first met her, fell a few weeks ago. She just had eye surgery and had "floaters", one of which she thought was a bug and in trying to stomp on it, fell. Xrays showed nothing, they said she had siatica and to rest. Well, it didn't get better and she is basically alone;she doesn't socialize with others in the facility. She does not like "old people" (they die on her) and being the only Jew in the place, it was hard (DH and I were not involved in the decision to move her there, long story and this is long enough already).
Not getting better, the brother who lives near by took her back to the Dr. They did an MRI, found fractures in her pelvis. She got a rehab nurse, but being diabetic, was not eating or drinking. She was hospitalized yesterday to get her back in shape, then to rehab and then assisted living.
I am sure you all know where this will go. I have never heard of a person this age bouncing back to health from something like this. So how long? Who knows. From the vibrant, outgoing, strong woman I love, to a withering sad woman I still dearly love. We will spend as much time as we can with her, but with work and travel it is hard.
Sorry for a long downer post, but I needed to vent and I don't know of a better place than with my compassionate, loving friends.
On a good note, Geordi's breeder is a nurse at the hospital she is in, so she will check on MIL and keep us posted on any details we may miss. Chris is an ER nurse so not privy to everything, but she knows people who are.

I am so very sorry to hear about the troubles your MIL is facing. I will definitely keep her (and the rest of y'all) in my prayers and send all of the positive vibes that I can muster! As you said, she is a strong woman; with proper care and a bit of time, it is possible that she may bounce back to her former glory. Love, time, and faith can perform miracles!
I dreamed last night that I had one of my nemmys set up for dual 18650's, but even with a kick, it was burning the wick.
If she can beat the odds and still be a go getter at 93, she may very likely beat the odds and bounce back to health when others wouldn't. She's not like other 93 year olds!
Above all, don't treat her like you think she's doomed! You might be surprised.

The internet connects to many people from many cultures that are different than our own. The potential for sharing of ideas is tremendous .. then, I thought about it for a moment ..
In practice, it doesn't work that way at all. Social Networking and targeted content has removed any possibility of that by effectively ensuring we never have to communicate with anyone we disagree with or hear any contrary or dissenting voices. In effect, we've gone beyond the old AOL corporate walled garden and now have the ability to create our own personal walls.
We "friend" only people who we think like us, quickly "unfriending" any that might be questionable, we follow only voices that say the same things we do and have all our news and information pre-selected based on what Facebook, Google or Yahoo thinks we want. The more we feed the algorithm, the more targeted it becomes. Then we block those with differing ideas that we disagree with.
That doesn't even account for the fact that the Internet is now controlled by a very small number of large companies feeding us the content. Google and Facebook essentially control the flow of information to many people and many major sites allow you to sign in with one of those accounts in order to post comments.
This pushback of diversity has resulted in the same pushback in our real lives as we live more and more of our lives in front of screens and get used to that comfort level. We've never been more segregated and isolationist despite having the ability to connect and share more than ever before.

This part is particularly important! It's wonderful to have the inside scoop as to how she's doing. As others have said, she may surprise y'all, and someone said it well, don't treat her like this is it.......treat her like you can't wait til she's better. Yes she's had a long and productive life, but no reason it can't go on further. (((((((((Cathy))))))))))) will definitely pray for her and all y'all!!

What an amazing story, particularly if you follow it through both Dolphin Tale movies! I was so close to her in Florida. Would have loved to have seen her and hope, but I do watch their live cam sometimes.

I'm trying to get ready to go sit with the little Corgi again. I'll be there til Monday evening. Can't wait to see him!
I'm a day behind here as I get things taken care of for Mom before I go. I have managed to stay caught up everywhere else tho. Catching up here is my goal for today!

Happy 4 years, Matt! I'm on Tapathingie most of the time now & don't see the sig banners with the quit dates on them, so I never know until someone mentions it.Happy Vaperversary Deb. 4 years is a major milestone. I find myself not even thinking about it anymore. Mine crept up and passed before any if us even realized it. I think after my fifth I'm going to stop celebrating them.
Please don't stop marking your vaperversaries! They are so worth a celebration! And where is our happy Mattman? You've seemed a little down lately. Hope everything is ok, sweetie!
So true. And you are right, the targeting of content makes it easy for people to reinforce what they already believe about any given topic. We all need to be constantly faced with information and points of view that challenge our beliefs in order to grow. When only presented with information that matches our beliefs, those beliefs become someone else's rather than our own.
I'm probably not saying what I want to say very clearly, so I'll leave it at that and simply say thank you for posting this particular "Morning Musing"
