I'm trying to remind myself he already stole 3 years back from the "C" and this time I won't be blindsided when the time comes like I was with Mom, but no daughter is ever truly ready to loose her Daddy.

Your family is in my prayers, Amy.

What gets me is that SS would be in the black consistently if congress hadn't "borrowed" from it to finance whatever the boondogle of the year was for so many years. How convenient that they forgot that they put IOUs in everytime too.

And the fraud! OMG! Politicians always rant against waste and fraud, but it's still there and growing. Guess that's one thing you can count on gov't for.

@2legsshrt , I am SO sorry to hear about this Family situation. That makes me want to hurt somebody.

On another note, I really DO enjoy working with younger people. They help keep my childish wonder alive. Last night, one of the young kids I work with had an expired flare he had been holding on to. After work last night him, and another one of the guys and me decided to head out to the beach to see if it still worked. I wish I had taken my camera. Anyway, our fervent prayer was that there was no Coast Guard hanging around anywhere and that we wouldn't cause any problems. We had to use a flashlight to get the beach. That's how dark it was. However, once the kid got the flare going, it lit up the whole doggone beach!!!!

For me, it was one of the most bizarre, awesome things I've ever seen!! I guess if anybody on the shrimp boats saw it, they were probably thinking "Uh...probably some damned drunks on the island acting up."

What a hoot! Picturing you out there lighting up the beach was such a nice picture to wake up to today.

Thank you Willie

I hadn't posted it yet because I was and still am processing what's happened.

4 years ago my Dad was diagnosed w/stage 4 lung cancer. He spent a year fighting it with both chemo and rad treatments.
At the end of that year just after my Mom passed he finally came up clean on the tests and scans.

I didn't hear from him for a few weeks but that's not unusual with it being golf and model airplane season.

I knew he had not been feeling well, but he saw his GP and it was chalked up to being 83, having heart problems and never having fully recovered from the fight. On Father's Day when I called he told me that on a routine check from the oncologist the first of the month they found out the cancer is back and with a vengence. It's back in his lung and has spread to his liver. To far advanced to knock it out but chemo was an option to possibly slow it and get him some more quality time.

He started chemo but after the second dose he decided he just can't take the side effects. He didn't want to spend what time he has left in agony from the drugs.

I'm trying to remind myself he already stole 3 years back from the "C" and this time I won't be blindsided when the time comes like I was with Mom, but no daughter is ever truly ready to loose her Daddy.

Oh Amy, this is a hard road right now. I guess the good part is that you have this time with your Dad and can make it count. You are both in my thoughts and prayers for peace and strength to get you through.

I am home. Once I got sick I wasn't doing anyone any good.

MILs sister came in from Dallas to take over when I got sick. I SO appreciate her doing that.

Hope you're feeling better today. Mike and I had the flu early this year and it's awful! Here, I brought you some chicken soup!

Sorry to read this Amy ... prayers for you and your Dad.

Thank you both... I will probably do another look online tonight, so for the rest... Thanks in advance!!

Happy Birthday Ken!

It had been some time since I had any urge to take in a film at an actual Movie Theater .. I believe, the first installment of "Hunger Games", and only then because I was being polite to someone .. at any rate, having been a Tarzan / John Carter / Edgar Rice Burroughs fan since I was a child in the early 1900's, .. ;) .. the new "Legend of Tarzan" film looked great on the teasers, so, I decided to take it in .. (don't waste your money, wait for the DVD / Blu Ray) .. as I sat and waited thru what I felt was at least a dozen "Upcoming Release" bits, the beginning of the film drew near and the "Silence Your Cellphone", "Stay Quiet", etc etc appeared on screen, followed by ::

"Please Immediately Report Any Suspicious Person or Activity"

I sat back to watch the film, yet this notice stayed in my mind .. it's a far cry from "Let's all go to the Lobby .." with dancing Candy and Popcorn .. the thing is, I don't know how to parse my thoughts on this .. I understand that it is, I suppose, just another piece in the fabric of how things have changed over the years and what we have come to .. to me, it felt almost sad, like the Final End of the Innocent (Don Henley not withstanding) .. while certainly not in the League of widespread surveillance, TSA hassles, etc .. it was just a small reminder of how even a trip to the local Multiplex is just somehow slightly different ..

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon and evening getting out and enjoying Our Countries Birthday (raise a glass to Ken :)) .. the good news being, I saw Americans out and about, doing their 4th of July thing, going about their business with their Families in tow .. and it dawned on me, that notice at the Theater "Please Immediately Report Any Suspicious Person or Activity" .. has not dampened the Spirit of my Country .. because, while we may be barraged 24 / 7 by the bad news of the day, the Political divisiveness, all the things that can be depressing .. the truth is, we are still Americans, no matter what side of the fence you are on .. and, we Celebrate that 4th Day .. "Long May She Wave" ..

I'll close this out with a few post-4th of July Pics I took yesterday .. beginning with a crowd pic ..

Hey I forgot to tell you guys yesterday when Ginny was on her way home she called and asked you think we ought to try the Colonels again KFC. They've been putting all these commercials on about come back we are back to the same. Don't waste your money. Remember when KFC chicken used to be just dripping and the coating was really good? I sent them an email and told them the bird we got was like shoe leather and the coating was terrible too. Last time we ever go there we usually give places about 3 times over 3 years that was it for this place man it was terrible, but the dog likes it chopped up in her dog food minus the coating.
It's been my experience that KFC basically sux. Way to greasy and the size of a seagull not a real chicken. Now Hardee's/Carl Jr's chicken is right good. Popeye's is the best of the national chicken chain's in my experience. Is Zaxby's a national chain? Theirs is pretty good. I have found that the local chicken joints, at least around here are the best. Speaking of chicken, has anyone other than me noticed how big the chicken breasts in the stores have gotten? Around here they're usually so big that we've been cutting them in half and cooking them. So big I really can't imagine what the bird looks like actually walking around.:w00t:

yep, KFC you can squeeze out the grease and lube up, er, never mind .. ;) .. Popeye's / Hardee's are my preferred take out ..

The chickens of Today could, at times, pass for Turkeys .. one word :: Hormones .. (Admittedly, I did not ask Google the Great) ..

Ah yes, Zaxby's.......... We have a couple of those around here and they are so bad that even on a Friday or Saturday night there are only a few cars in their parking lots. We have several "chicken" joints so to get a good crowd you have to serve good stuff. My favorite is semi-local called Caine's. Popeye's is out of the question. I will, if forced, eat chicken from KFC, Church's, or Hey! Man. Popeye's thinks everybody in Louisiana likes to eat whatever they are ordering covered with so much cayenne that the first bite is the only thing you will be able to taste for the rest of the night. I like spicy food but I also like to enjoy my glass of sweet iced tea (with lime) for the taste not to put out the fire.
