Please tell me more about the "Hangout". Do we see each other?? My laptop has a built in camera and I've seen myself but not so sure I'm ready to "go public".
It is Cinco de Mayo. Not sure why but, the large Cuban population here in south Florida really puts on a party. Even though this is a Mexican holiday, I am starting to celebrate along with the Cubans. Mojitos and Margaritas for all who want them and,,,pay for them!

My concern for the future is that kids today are taught to take tests not figure things out (problem if they don't have their digital watch and calculator) and are not taught respect. So yea, hackers will rule. Sigh..
On Letter Writing / Modern Tech / General Rant .. the Era we now reside in has truly become the Brave New World .. with a clear cut direction of accelerated innovation .. from the marvels of Video Chat, online communities to the advances in Medical Tech, life extension and so, so many more Marvels many, if not most of us have lived to witness ..
Yet, there is a simple pleasure to putting a pen to a paper, working with your mind and your hands to create something .. learning a new skill that is rooted in the Old ..
As each generation rises up to replace the last, sometimes I wonder if we don't lose a little more of the soul from days gone by .. increasingly, the gap between the Haves and the Have Nots widens .. for all we have done to advance, there are still folks that go hungry, here in the Land of Plenty ..
A good portion of our Youth has simply given up .. pacified by the Tech in many ways .. Drones that work at minimally rewarding jobs, with no real goal or drive for what the future holds .. it actually becomes refreshing when you run across a youth that actually does seem to care ..
And, right or wrong, even considering the Technological Wonders we've lived to see, I sense a high degree of just plain laziness that the Tech has helped create .. when I was a child, my neighborhood was always brimming with kids playing, riding bikes, tossing a baseball .. now, neighborhoods seem like Urban Wastelands designed as the receptacle of Homes, where even a small lot requires the use of a riding lawn mower or the payment to a Yard service ..
This change is not just rooted in the young .. all age groups seem to drift toward being participants rather than doers, with some exception, of course .. because there is such a wealth of distraction in entertainment / mobile devices, etc, that it becomes so easy to wile away the hours / days / weeks / months / years .. what will the Future look like .. ??

I would speculate, based on what I know to be true, your regular exposure to alternative culture would somehow be emotionally jarring in some ways, yet still somehow personally rewarding .. I've never said this to you, I don't think, but I have the utmost respect, sir ..
Thanks Willie - I have in a way incorporated a lot of what I have seen in other cultures into my own life - and like to think that much of it has made my life better over the years.
True. And they are given participation trophies. Really sad. Failure is one of the most important things growing.
Probably not teleportation but, I'll bet the holodeck will be possible and sooner than later. The only part of that that I don't think will happen anytime soon is the tactile sensation. Like reaching out and touching the girls cheek, etc.
I saw a report on the news the other night. I don't remember all the specific details but it was about an app that does their homework for them. Literally scan in the problem, the app figures out what the scan says, gives you the answer and then if you want gives you the steps to solve it, just in case you have to show your work. Scary. Pretty soon most people won't be able to solve anything without the phone or computer. God help us if the war starts with an EMP attack. No one could invent anything.
