Nice thing about "Deb's Place" is nobody has to clean up afterwards. I could just see the mess if we were actually there. Red Solo Cups and pizza boxes. Least you wouldn't have any stinky ash trays!
lol jup, if I had to clean up we'd be in trouble

Ah ... Hanging down from a chain. Even better! We have a screen porch with covered porches on either side, running the length of the house. How wonderful it would be to sit on the screen porch and see Hummingbirds! We love to watch the Osprey build their nest, and the Bald Eagles dive for fish - but we've never had Hummers. This will be fun!

EtA: Thanks, Janet. No food coloring; change often. Got it! (We have plenty of bugs :))

Off to bed. Goodnight, all. Have a good sleep!
Night LB. Sleep tight.

I am avoiding it tonight because the season finale of Doree's favorite show is on and my being so loud interferes with her viewing pleasure. In case your wondering it "Once Upon a Time" and if you haven't seen it, it's really well written and acted. However, I thinks you should go back to the beginning and stream all the earlier episodes before jumping into the new season this fall. I would be really disappointed if it's not renewed.
Isn't this the 2nd season?

Where's the best place to put a Hummingbird feeder?[
Just about anywhere. Near a window so you can see them. Not over something that animals, cats & bears, can use to get to it, so free hanging. Near a window so you can see them. Low enough that you can reach it to get it down for cleaning (every 2 weeks minimum), & refilling (1/3 cup of sugar dissolved, per 1 cup of water, no need for red colored liquid).

Thanks, Fran. I'll pop into Lowes, tomorrow. Somehow I thought there was an Art to Hummingbird feeders, but it sounds like something even I can manage! :)
Examine the feeders for any sharp edges around the ports & perches, don't want to cut their tongues or feet, so stay away from a metal port. And perches at the ports are good so they can sit & sip instead of burning energy by hovering. There isn't anything in those powdered foods except colored sugar, & the liquid foods are just colored sugar water. It's not recommended to use filtered water, just plain tap water, since there are minerals in it they need.

We don't live in the woods. We live on a river. Haven't ever had a Hummingbird feeder before, and am interested to know where it's best situated (assuming no bears about which to worry!).

I'm late to add my vote to the easy to see, easy to reach recommendations. Mine goes on a shepherds hook outside my living room window. The other feeders are on a combo pole a little further out. That's how I realized I had the hummingbirds at the end of last summer - they started divebombing a red metal seed feeder, going "It's red, it's supposed to be for us!"

Don't have much in large wildlife now that I'm in the big (pop 80) city, but the squirrels are starting to drive me crazy.
So, I know that squirrels have to eat, too, and their gymnastics hanging from part of the pole to get to a feeder are kind of cute, but I just can't afford to keep feeding them oil sunflowers.

And, I can't keep going out to fill the feeders every day. All of this was bad enough when there were two of them, but today there were six out there at the same time, presumably a family gathering. They are incredibly glossy and health looking, though.

I did "accidentally" let Loki, my Rottweiler/Shepherd, get out the front door today. It cleared them off for about two hours.

Hoping you didn't take my comment wrong I was yust yoking around. We have a lot of friends where we used to live that are into the same sort of things I think I remember you saying you were when asked about your screen name. It was good seeing you in person last night.
No, no offense taken. It didn't even sink in what you were talking about at the time. I was left curious at your post for a while. Then I remembered the witch's hat comment. It was actually kinda funny and cute. I just wish I had caught it at the time so I could laugh with you, instead of a day later.

.. sharing what we have shared has, in an unexplainable way, begun to restore what can only be called Hope .. it's not just the fact that I now hear and see those that visit here, it's the whole three and a half years that regularly remove another brick from the wall I built, a wall that I now know I am happy to tear down ..

Lastly, as a self admitted Non Believer, I find myself, ironically, with the only word that perhaps most captures my feelings .. and that word is Blessing ..
You're not the only one, Uncle Willie. Most definitely not!

The only thing I can add is this .. I would love to hear some thoughts from anyone regarding, er, the best word I can think of is protocol .. last night, I think we peaked out at maybe 8 people .. the way Google has this working, to me anyway, it's much like an old school CB Radio .. when a person jumps in with commentary, the feed seems to cut off anyone that may have been talking .. thus, it feels sometimes like those that may be less assertive in voicing something get relegated to the background .. last night, I really, really wanted to hear more from Dancing / Kenna / Metal Storm / (0m as well but she had some equipment problems) as well as Dave (BigBells) ..

I'm not slamming anything or anyone with what I'm going to say next .. Does it seem like the larger the group, the more likely the more outspoken will tend to dominate .. ?? And, if so, is that off putting to those that would like to talk more yet may feel they are being too aggressive or just want to be polite .. ?? I honestly tried last night to just be a good listener and interject when it seemed appropriate, however, I probably failed miserably .. I just don't know, but I don't want to think some of us are not giving others adequate opportunity .. it just seems like a fine line and I'm probably overthinking it like I tend to do ... does any of this make sense .. ??
As one of the quieter members, I have to admit I've always had trouble being heard. I'm not loud enough or assertive enough to be heard over others.

However, I also generally prefer to listen rather than talk in a larger group of people. So far especially, I'm just loving seeing and hearing everyone face-to-face. I have very little need to actually talk.

Of course, I don't happen to be going through one of my talkative phases ATM. Once I get in one of those moods, I could talk your ear off!

This forum has provided me with new friends that I feel have my back. Maybe not in the way that somebody next door might help out with a problem but, providing a vent and consul that I haven't found elsewhere, I to am starting to extend myself into the real world by finding new friends in the cyber world. I hope that makes sense. Trying to say thanks for being there folks.
It took me a long time to feel this was 'real'. I always thought of the internet as a place where you couldn't tell (or trust) who someone really was. Just print on a screen, no telling who's really behind it.

The Old Folks threads have changed that for me.

I wish I had time to catch up, but I don't. I'm just popping my head in to say hello. I have to be at work 3 hours early tomorrow for inventory, so I don't have time to finish reading in here. I'm SO ready to go home. I'm just bone tired this hitch for some reason. Eh....miss y'all. See y'all later.
