My machines are set to notify me of updates, no auto anything.

Windows Update runs separate from any browser, so don't go there! But any listed as Critical and MOST listed as Important are good to install. The glitches mentioned - and as a reason to wait a couple days - are rare but can be a nightmare when they happen...

And since Win Update is a native windows app, it will ONLY download the right updates for your computer's architecture (i.e. 32 or 64 bit.)

If using a non-IE browser such as Chrome, and the WIN patch is designed for Explorer, I myself don't see any reason to worry about the patch at all since Google updates your system automatically whether you want it to or not .. no .. ??

You've found the loony bin, make yourself ta home! Welcome, pull up a chair and tell us about yourself!

Were you here when i went cross-country with my friend? Thelma and Louise we weren't!
newp, but ya told me about it. You and me would have a LOT more fun! Uhmmm but I aint goin motorcyclin' on a frozen lake! that's nuts! (and cold)

thanks for the assistance on the update thingy, but any more stuff probably needs to be done in the h/o. Iffy I followed ya right up to the find system type and couldn't find that. But at some point can do a h/o with someone who knows what they're doin so we can screen share etc.

Just a thought....could someone bring a vehicle to attach just in case someone would need a "time-out"?

That wouldn't be me, of course....

Covered that last night .. the Collective Brain Trust decided that at least two vehicles would be the minimum requirement .. one preferably a multi-passenger type van and one being my Crew Cab truck ..

Actually, Explorer updates are important no matter what browser you use. (I use Firefox, hate Exploder!)

IE is so tightly entwined with the rest of the OS (Operating System), and parts of it are used by other parts of the OS, so patches - especially security patches! - are still important to install. Not to keep IE safe, but to keep the rest of the system safe.

And yes, Goog's browser updates itself whenever and however it wants. No user control, one of the reason I don't use it.

Just for the record, I was laughing with you, not at you .. :) .. and my personal policy is to always say what I mean and mean what I say .. :) .. own it, girl .. :)
Ah dear Willie, I took it exactly how you meant it, and I surely know you were laughing WITH me.......

Now, I have to try and catch up with this Windows thingy......I use FF & Chrome, so when I checked for my updates, it told me he service is not running.......now, that's a new one on me! I'll do a re-boot after I post this to see what's up!

I beta tested WIN10 and I can tell you this .. it's great .. the Start Button is back, the access to Explore is back, it's almost a throwback to WIN 7 yet still very modern .. and very fast .. I think you'll like it ..

Thanks, Unc. I've got mine "reserved" as well, but may give it a month or so anyway to let 'em shake out a few cobwebs. And figure I'll install it first on my win8.1 tablet/convertible - the newest one in my lineup, so the least destroyed if it goes awry or if I just can't handle it :)
