Meet Me in St Louie Louie
That's another dream of mine. A trip across country in a oldfashioned train. With newfashioned aminities, of course.

Mainly for the experience, I have taken Amtrak from St Louis to New Orleans on more than one occasion .. it's much quicker to drive, and you have a vehicle when you get there, so you don't have to rent or take a taxi (New Orleans taxi drivers are notorious for ripping you off and I've almost come to popping one in the head at times) .. but Arlo Guthrie was so spot on with "City of New Orleans", it drew me to it .. an acoustic guitar, bring your own cooler, sitting in the Observation Car Lounge was and is a very unique experience .. and, as some know, I love the Delta anyway ..

I went from Mi. to Cal. some years ago in a sleeper compartment and did the northern route over the mountains, it was awesome. And the meals were superb! I hope you get to do it!

Yeah, I get a "sleeper compartment" as well, although I book the "Roomette" .. which is really more like a coffin and you practically have to be a contortionist to get in/out, those that spent time on board a Navy ship might be comfortable :) .. and you're right, they do a pretty good job on the food .. beats the airlines by a mile ..

That might be what my sil and nephew got when they took a train trip. He had to get up and do some rearranging each time she had to go potty, and of course he had to go out in the hallway
ETA: after seeing what kay posted, probably not

Thanks for setting up a seperate thread....

We're not that far away from a Thread Re-Boot here .. unless the Powers That Be have started allowing over 15,000 post threads to continue .. and I did not want to accelerate the post pace thus causing Mike a premature Re-Boot job .. :)

That's what I get .. but I have to tell ya, I'm 6' and around 210 LBS .. so it was tough to get into and out of, no room for much of anything, bathroom trips were a hassle and a half .. but, on the positive side, it did provide a place to crash, since I think St Louis to New Orleans was around 20 hours .. I can drive it in 12-13 hours easy, but I'm whipped by the time I get there ..

by train, I grabbed a cab, got to the French Quarter in minutes and was ready to party immediately ..

Well, I can tell you this, after the first trip, I was about ready to go full on Red Neck and just bring a half gallon empty milk jug for, er, relieving myself without exiting the "Berth" .. but even that would be tough .. ;)

tried calling Dancin this morning, but I expect she was having tests. Didn't hear so just called again. They got her heart rate back down to 75-80 bpm, her white blood count is pretty high, so they're watching her for infection. As long as no infection develops and her HR stays where it should be, she may be able to go home from the hospital tomorrow, or the next day. She's actually looking forward to going home this time. They made a pin cushion outta the poor lil thing this time.
