Congrat's on the SFC promotion. Nice increase in pay but it also draws more paperwork. I remember getting my SGT stripe and thinking I had it made now...such are the delusions of youth. I found out that as an Electronics SP 4 I was at the top of that food chain, no KP, occasional CQ duty, and only paperwork for parts orders and finished radios. Then as a SGT I was beleaguered with all the PW I used to do plus added reports, evaluations, requests for everything and all. I think my Platoon SGT enjoyed haveing me do some of his work. Oh! but the joys of confusing butter bars when they really had no clue as to what I really did inside a radio. The "manual" said to fully run a radio through a full tune up was supposed to take 1 1/2 hrs. This was using 10 pieces of seperate test equipment. When the army started getting the modern test equipment from Motorola & IFR, I could preset everything and run thru a radio in 10 min.s LT would look baffled and say " Very good, carry on" which is Mil speak for "I have no idea of what your talking about, but it makes me look good".

SFC has been his goal all along. He has a Bachelor's degree in IT but does not want to be an officer for just this reason. He likes to be out with the troops and get his hands dirty, shuffling paperwork is not his idea of a good time. Heck, they send him all over to teach how to fly drones! He was in St Vincent's a few months ago...

Instead of hanging out last night, I was laying down cat5 cable from my modem in one room to my work PC in another room. And, naturally, on the very last staple.... I hit the cable wrong and ruined it. Had to go to the store and get new cable. But they didn't have any 100 ft length (I needed 75) so a 25' and a 50' length coupled with an rj45 connector later... Finally got the new cable sort of layed... Except it's wider than what I had gotten before, and I want to get wider staples in my staple gun.
Good thing I live alone or someone might trip over the cable that is currently crossing the hall instead of being redirected around a door.

Ever hear of WiFi?

Good morning!

A relatively quiet morning. In spite of the mad dash of the family waking up a little late, a little rushing around trying to find the right clothes for each kid, searching for a missing belt, barely getting the kids to school on time, . . . . Yet, somehow the morning has a peaceful feeling to it. Go figure!

Ever hear of WiFi?
Ever hear of dropped conference calls with your director? ;)

The WiFi works great.. Until you exceed its bandwidth, then the phone drops.
Um, yeah.. My work PC uses LYNC Phone. Fantastic voice quality at the expense of flexibility.

I could be wrong but I believe the IRS has a minimum tip amount that wait people must report, whether they made it or not. Ever finish a meal with a different server than the one who you started with, due to a shift change? That's one of the reasons that some places pool all tips.

Could well be right :) And pooled or not, if they go over that IRS amount, I'm happy to let them decide. Just seems to me that if you're making something that could be well south of the minimum wage, you shouldn't have to pay squat...

I can relate. I want to run an internet line to my TV and don't really know how to do it. Can I run a separate line from the outside phone box or does it have to go through my modem box? I've got a DSL connection. If I have to run it from my modem box, the best way would be to run the line under the house, but the easiest way would be to run it across the floor. I have the anti-interference shield thingies to put on the line.

Yes, as said, you do have to come from the DSL modem, otherwise no connection. Unless all you want is to make phone calls from your TV?

And also as said, wifi. Easy to set up, in most cases. And lets you connect throughout the house. My desktop machine cables to our wireless router, which is cabled to the DSL modem. Our laptops and Roku box connect wireless. Just make sure you set up the security options on the router, also easy, but often overlooked.

Very nice to not be tethered :)

I've got so much RG, CAT and phone lines throughout my walls. I even put in a patch panel to help ease the expansion/maintenance. I even had 3 phone lines at one time. One for dial-up, one for business voice and one for home voice. WIFI and cell phones were a blessing around here.

To all in the hangout tonight. I had a great time. Thanks for not grumping about me monopolizing the conversation. I try not to but, have always talked to damn much. We should set up to do this on a regular basis. I would rather do it on a Friday or Saturday night but any night that is good for everyone is good with me. Goodnight all, i will see you in the morning. To quote Spock "You are and always will be my friends!"

It was fun and nice to put faces with the words. And no, I don't think you monopolized the conversation at all, despite the note from your wife! We totally enjoyed the chat. I wish you'd been able to show us the pup though.

We didn't drop in last night because we were meeting with our contractor about our kitchen. When he left we were grinning from ear to ear and looking forward to starting the work sometime in June!!

Good morning, everyone! Sounds like all y'all had great fun, last night! Wish I had been able to join you ...

After a glorious, sunshine-y day, we had vicious thunderstorms; debris everywhere. Whew! From one year to the next, I forget the intensity of spring/summer storms and am amazed anew. This is my favorite weather - 'though walking the dogs in the evening can be a bit of a challenge. None of us loves getting drenched :)

Hope everyone has a great day! Today is my quarterly "Look See" appt. Hoping for good news!

So glad to hear the outcome of your "look see" was fantastic! I'm sorry to hear that you still have to go through rounds of chemo, especially for a long time, but it seems to be working!

Nasty storms last night that I'm glad didn't come this far east. Those tornadoes are scary stuff! I love weather as long as it doesn't get destructive.

I didn't go, because there is not much more there than I can do here. Looks like you all enjoyed yourselves.

I am making some major transitions in my personal life-- so my participation here is dwindling. Only temporary.

How exciting to be able to move into a bigger place! It's nice to have that to look forward to! Hope it all works out well for you.

My son got home from a month of training today. Once the paperwork is done and approved, he will be promoted to Sergeant First Class in the Florida National Guard!!!! One proud mother here!
:banana::banana::banana::rickroll::banana::banana::banana::toast::toast:

Congratulations to your son! Thank heavens for people like him and his willingness to serve. Yep, you should be very proud!

Yep, been trying all morning. It may look like I'm lurking, but I'm actually scrambling to catch up! Everytime I got to the bottom of the page there were 2 more pages! I had so many "quotes" at the end that I deleted some and got all confused and congratulated the wrong person on the move to a bigger apartment. It was Dance who is looking to move! Sorry about that. Hey Dance, I'm excited for you! :thumb:

I know the feeling! I'm seldom really caught up anymore.

Last night I realized that now I'll finally have a place to put this: Wood Tool Chest w/ 8 Wood Tool Drawers. I'm so excited! (I may have said that before. :))

It's the little things that matter. Like I can finally put out some of my favorite things (like my favorite rock).

No, you were not wrong. I was surprised at your quick perception. :p I just faxed the application.

Ooooh! Spooky!

Congrats, 0mg! I'm excited for you too!

I am lucky. My internet service tops out at 50mbps. Darn quick. Only thing I have hard wired is the roku and my Pioneer receiver. Everything else in the house is WiFi, Imac, 2 cell phones, 2 tablets and VOIP phone (never used, goes straight to the answering machine). You guys were talking about how good my picture and sound where, Hangouts and the Imac both look at the size of the pipe and the mbps available and set the mode accordingly. Last night it was set to HD. Pretty cool.

I've been looking at that for my vape gear as well. Not buying anything till after the big move. Just one more thing to haul to Florida. :)

I've had that thing bookmarked for well over a year. Just waiting until I had a place to put it.

8 weeks and counting.
