I got a new roommate who is staying while she has radiation for lung cancer. And no matter how firmly I believe in the safety of vaping, I just can't bring myself to do it.
oh wow hun......my best to her...... and to you. I totally understand, but I know that's rough.

It is the magnetism of Deb's mysterious personality that does it.

Thanks for your support and good wishes everyone, much appreciated.

Oh it's worse, much worse.
As I understand it, Lewy bodies are clumps of protein which destroy dopamine, a neurotransmitter. In Parkies they're localised in an area of the brain associated with motor control; hence the involuntary tremors. With LBD (also a degenerative disease) they're all over the brain and really screw you up big time. Depression, paranoia, chronic insomnia ... on top of the tremors.

As my friend is so young, there's very little medical treatment for Parkies (or LBD I suspect) as the drugs have such debilitating and harmful side effects.
BUT there are two rays of hope.
Firstly, she may not have Parkies at all, it could just be a rare form of distonia (don't ask!).
Secondly, if Parkies is confirmed, they reckon they could fit implants deep in her brain to stop the tremors. Risky, but better than strong drugs at her age.

Sorry to bang on about it but neither of us had realised what a terrible thing Parkies is (let alone LBD) or how little is known about it - especially early onset Parkies. There are good support groups here but, even after three years, I think she's still partially in denial and doesn't want to use them.

(Handy tip: If anyone you know loses their sense of smell and starts shaking and/or getting mood swings a few years later, think Parkies.)

I only "liked" your post because it contained good information. Can't like what the info is about. So sorry that your friend has to deal with such a debilitating disease especially at a young age. Sounds like she's lucky to have you around!

Here is the happy dog I was laughing at last night in the hangout.

Absolutely Awesome ... what a happy dog and soldier ... Loved it.

good afternoon folks :)

Hi Sterno, welcome to the porch. We won't hold nothing against you just because you squonk.

And in my news, Liz did find a temporary home for Loki. Complete with kids, which is a new experience for him, but he seems to like. He's still kinda stressed over everything, but at least he is staying at a good stable place.

I've had to give up on the stealth vaping idea for now. I got a new roommate who is staying while she has radiation for lung cancer. And no matter how firmly I believe in the safety of vaping, I just can't bring myself to do it.

So I'm going to have to order some nicotine lozenges, but I'd forgotten how much they cost. It didn't seem that bad when I was comparing the cost to cigarettes, but compared to DIY liquid...

Oh how nice ... looks like he's making new friends already. :)

Woshed out I am.

Spent the day moving everything from the kitchen cabinets to the dinning room and living room. Set up a coffee bar in the dinning room. No way I'm doing without coffee in the morning once the contractor begins ripping out the kitchen this week.

Holy Cow! My vape budget took a hit ... couldn't put the old appliances back into a newly redone kitchen - so we sprang for a new gas stove, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. Then Janet said her pots and pans need replacing ... yep ... a new set of those should arrive this week.

Then tonight after dinner I rebuilt 4 Kayfuns and 3 R91's. Let the vaping week begin. I'm ready.

Hey there Sterno! Glad to have you, pull up a rocker and make yourself comfortable!

Amoret, glad to hear you found a good place for Loki. Looks like he'll have a lot of distractions with kids in the house. Sorry about your friend and can't blame you for not wanting to vape around her. Hope the lozenges work out for you. Best wishes for her recovery.
