Peach, that is truly beautiful!! And you did a great job of staging the shot!!

Deb, I'm a bad girl. I didn't congratulate you on your Woodvil! I'm so happy for you! it's nice to know how much people appreciate their PV's and how far they've come in a really short time.

Excellent post Wi
I nosed around some last night with Mr Google initially researching unregulated builds .. I'd suspect many, if not the majority, of the makers are using a CNC machine, which I don't have, but Rockler makes some quality machines that are relatively inexpensive ..

Since I have a small warehouse stacked with various exotic woods, that's all bought and paid for .. looking at the required hardware seems to me in wholesale, the highest quality I can find would still be under $20.00 per unit ..

When I gave it serious thought, I lean toward believing entering this space now is likely a little late .. those companies that have been in the space and built a reputation over time have captured a market that maintains a very solid customer base .. there appears to also me some mystique / reverence / for some that a new guy would be hard pressed to capture .. unless the new guy really made some stand out work .. just an exotic wood box that looks nice seems to be well covered with what's out there now .. if I were, on the other hand, to go into hand inlay, custom per-customer work and get really specialized, at the end of the day, it's still a wood box with some hardware and inlay / custom is time consuming, thus driving the price up ..

So, I'm on the fence, essentially .. I called a close friend master woodcrafter who has a CNC machine, I've known for many years this morning and asked if I were to provide the project files and the wood rough cut to the needed size, what would he charge me and I can get 500 boxes turned out at $8.00 a box ..

What I'm saying next has no bearing on the current makers of these mods, more power to them is what I say .. however, at what I believe is under $30.00 per unit actual cost for me, the markup on these things is very, very high .. of course, I already have the wood, so other makers have to buy that .. but still, I'd estimate for them under $40.00 per unit .. and since there is really no reason why production should be limited, it may be that other makers artificially keep production low in order to further the mystique .. that's not a bad thing .. if you make 500 units and that's it for this cycle, your equipment and initial investment is tax deductible fully the first year under the current tax structure, it costs you on the high side $40.00 per unit, which is also tax deductible .. that's, with equipment, parts, wood, etc still under $25,000 ..

yet, if you can sell them, you gross $100 K and net $75 K at just $200.00 per unit ..

In my case, I could farm out the woodwork .. thus making my cost $28.00 per unit max .. or $14 K total box / parts inclusive .. at $200 a pop, that's still $100 K gross, with an $86 K net

The question being, could I sell 500 units in a reasonable period of time as a start up .. consider the cost of a Web Site and other ads ..

At any rate, it was an interesting study of this home grown market segment and gave me quite a bit of insight that I did not have, so I figured I'd share what I learned .. :)

Excellent post Willie. It gives an overall picture of the business end. I have no idea how long it takes to do the inlays (it would take me forever and still not look good) At $200 would you be getting paid enough for your time? I would think that in order to break into the business you'd have to have something new and the inlays certainly would do that.

Ken, glad you got your printer, but I couldn't see your images. That's happened before where others could see them and I couldn't dunno why
Try these two

And

I'm doing a box next, but it will take about 4 hours to print... My first attempt at it was not too good... I think I made it too small to print well.

Hi, First reply here. Just got a new Mod.

Well rats. ECF is doing flukey things tonight. I keep getting an error message, but I "x" it and it just goes away. Now I put a pb picture in here and it doesn't show up except on this edit. Oh well, Ricks, it was a very nice picture of a porch. Oh great, now it shows up.

Wow, good job!

Wow, some of them are gorgeous! I'd bet some of those people would love to have some with mother of pearl inlays! Hey Willie! I'll be #6 if you start making them! I think the first 10 should be autographed.

He's doing awesome all things considered, but feel he could truly get off the cancer sticks for good if he could try some flavors that actually don't mimic his cigarettes.

As others here have said, drag his 'Alpha Romeo Sierra Echo' to da B&M and force dem capitalist to let him try what dey sell!

BTW, I'm still grinnin' with your and your Dad's success...

Must apologize for not being comfortable with suggesting pre-made jooses. Just haven't purchased any in near three years with rare exceptions.

Don't tell Iffy how many flavors you got or he'll likely tell you you got too many.

Ya got to be hungry and beagle huntin'! Iffy has NO room to tell anyone dey have too many flavs. In fact, I'll bet I have more flavs from various manufacturers (conservatively, min 60) dan most on da porches!

Regardless, ya don't know until ya dive into sampling and/or mixin' 'em. BUT, once one finds a grand recipe, document it!!!

That is exactly what I'm trying to do with a friend I helped get started a couple of years ago and she went back to smoking. Now she wants to try it again, but this time, she will have to do it on her own, cause giving the stuff to her made her sort of lazy about continuing. I'll take her to any B&M, forward online sales to her, but that's it......that may sound harsh, but, I can't afford to supply two folks for vaping.

I think those are really cool I love how they are making prosthetic appendages with the. The RS brought home a chess set rook made at work. It's clear and you can see the detail of the spiral staircase inside it. They've come a long way, huh? Have fun!

Oh my! I'm impressed, but I didn't see the one Willie is making for me. ;) There may be 30 million books out there, but that won't stop me from writing!

I spent the better part of the day on making ejuice. 180 mls. Started out being 150 mls, but my rose came in the mail and I couldn't wait. The floral was a nice scent, but light on flavor, added a tad more...some Bavarian cream, a bit of sweetener and tweaking the ratios back where they should be and it was just right. Bavarian Rose.

I guesstimate I have enough liquid to last me a month.

I know how you feel! I got my brother vaping when there was just the "pen-style" ecigs and the eGO's. He lasted about a year, complaining all the while, then went back to smoking with the "excuse' that they're not worth it. Fast forward about five years and he's saying he'll quit cold turkey when he's ready and his wife was trying to convince him( while trying to enlist my help)to start vaping again...ordering for him online and stuff. I nicely told her he'd stop when he;s good and ready, I already spent too much on him, if he's serious he'll find a way..i did.
