She should have her heart pillow. Coughing is really painful but you have to do it. Pillow helps. Hope they go a good placement unlike mine. It is a scary thing. My life has never been the same since. My BP was low but they still keep you drugged up pretty good. Low BP is normal after. It is supposed to return to normal which mine never did.

Oh hell, I had forgotten about the pillow. When they took out the bottom half of my right lung I had to do that. They threatened to not let me out of the hospital if I couldn't do a decent cough. They were worried about fluid buildup in my lungs and same with the heart operations. It's amazing how quick you learn to cough heartily without moving a muscle!

she knew something was wrong, but didn't have a heart attack, went to the doc, doc heard the valve not acting right, sent her to the ER, admitted from there, so she had a couple days to wrap her head around the surgery. She does have a heart pillow for coughing, and incentive spirometer. Don't know what they used for the valve. her BP is usually low and this certainly doesn't help. But glad they're able to give her good meds. Hate that you had to go through this too and still have issues.


lol kay....she did have her daughter bring her laptop back up to the hospital today, but don't expect to see her for a few days at least. Hope ya had a good outing

Yep, forgot about the spirometer too. Damn torture instruments I tell ya. Anybody that has had major surgery will tell you that the surgeon is mean! Mine was a great surgeon and a pretty nice guy outside the hospital but, damn if he didn't treat me like a slab of beef. Sit up he says, guess I wasn't moving fast enough. He put he hand in the middle of my back and sat me up. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Thought I was gonna die. Then the S.O.B. called me a wimp and laughed. He was right I was but, he didn't need to tell me about it right then!
