Ok, I have a question, and I know you guys are the ones to ask. Early this afternoon I filled my original T3S with my usual daytime Virginia mix (roughly 7-8mg), and let 'er rip. It was going swell... until I got down to just about the point where it starts that gurgling nonsense, so I knew I would need to top off soon. But then... UGHHHH! Such an awful taste!!!!!!! I can't quite get it out of my nose, it was so horrible, and I'm wondering, does this mean that that coil is now shot? Lucky for me I got my new T3S today, AND a replacement coil, but I'm freaked if the thing is "shot" this soon; I got it just a week ago tomorrow, and I read on some site that the coils are good for maybe 10-15 days...?

I really don't know what's up with that thing, but I really hope you guys can tell me.

Thx!!
Andria

I kinda doubt it. At most, it may need cleaning and dry burning and it should be fine and like new. You could replace it with the new one, let it soak over night in vodka or PGA and then rinse, let it air dry and dry burn it before you use it next time. I do it all the time with mine.

Would it be a problem, having a small amount of vodka or pga in the house? Maybe someone can recommend something else for you, if so.

I try to keep one spare coil for each device. Whenever anything happens that I don't like, I switch out coils, and drop the old one in the rehab box. Then soak the whole bunch of them in alcohol, H2O2, denture tablets, or whatever. Rinse, dry, and dry-burn or test-burn, tossing any that don't fire up. It is easy, and I would rather do it unnecessarily than toss a good coli, or endure an off-taste flavor.

When three people tell you the same thing, unknown to each other, it is a safe bet. LOL

Hah, make that 4!

Some flavors, as Legolas mentioned, will gunk the coil quickly. Some it takes quite a while. T3S coils (actually, all the single bottom coil ones) are easy.

After taking it all apart and rinsing under hot running water, I "wiggle" the chimney off the head so I can see the coil. You need to remove the "flavor wick" to see the real wick and coil. (I find the flavor wick is usually good for the trash can, and replace with cotton yarn when putting back together.) You'll probably see some crud and not the tiny wire turns of the coil. That's the gunk we all talk about. Dry burning will get rid of that. Set your device to about 3.8 volts to avoid popping (burning out) the coil, and pulse away until all the gunk is gone. How many times to pulse? Depends on how badly it's gunked. Then rinse again.

Since you have a spare (or more!), you can set it aside to dry overnight. In a hurry? Go ahead and reassemble. Just keep in mind that the first few draws will be mostly water vapor, no juice. Won't hurt a thing.

To reassemble, lay a piece of wick on top of the coil, like the original flavor wick. Put the chimney back on and trim the wick. Done.

You can buy silica wick - Kangers come with two 1 mm strands for flavor. Or use cotton yarn, cotton teased out of a cotton ball or swab, lots of organic material to choose from. I figure my ball of the (in)famous Peaches and Cream will be finally used up by my grandkids :)

I get a nasty taste :nah: if I don't pull out one of the 'flavor wicks'. I don't mess with taking the chimney off, I just get tweezers and guesstimate, and pull out 1 of the 2 they have on top of the main wick. You can kinda tell what's what. There's a main coil wick on bottom and 2 'flavor wicks' on top, most of the time you can see the separation between the two. I'm amazed you went this long without getting that taste. :) :vapor:

Ok, thanks guys. The juice I use is 85% PG, since I order from their "PG Blends" collection. As for the disassembling, alisa1970 gave me a link to a video, so I can see how to take it all apart, but I am so glad you actually *wrote down* what to do to and with it, once it's disassembled -- are we the last literate generation, who know how to read and follow directions? ;)

It's not so much that having pure grain alcohol here would cause me a problem, I wouldn't have drunk that crap even when I was killing a 12pk a night! :D It's just a really needless expense for what we consider a really toxic substance, when there are apparently other less toxic (to us) chemicals that could be used -- h2o2, that's peroxide, right? We got that, and isopropyl alcohol; in fact I always rinse the tanks out with the iso. alcohol, then rinse again with purified water.

Anyway, no, there's no real rush, now that I have some idea what's going on. I made the unfortunate discovery earlier that my NEW T3S apparently leaks, and if you can visualize a redhaired woman throwing a hissy fit and cussing a blue streak, that'd be me. Fortunately I also have that beautiful little red ARO, and it works GREAT, (the resistance appears to be 1.9! so I turned the V down a little) so I am still vaping happily, but this makes it even more important to get that DIY stuff and make my own juice, because a substantial amount of my very limited supply has been wasted by all these antics. :-x Interesting note, though: the ARO until a few minutes ago had the "Morning Spice" mixture in it, which I hastily poured back into its needle-top bottle, and rather than arsing around with rinsing out the tank, etc, I just put some fresh Virginia in it -- and damn is that good!!!!! So I can certainly make the Virginia, and make it even better to my own taste.

Apparently I also need to shop around for some additional coils and maybe a diffrent kind of clearo, because I did read that some folks had problems with these T3S's leaking. From the destructions given, it sounds reasonably straightforward to get this original coil cleaned up, but until it *is* cleaned up, I need to make sure I have functional coils!!!

Andria, you don't need to dilute the nic. I use 48 mg nic, but only vape 4 mg. Use the ejuicemeup calculator and put in the numbers, 24mg nic and just below that, you put in the mg you want the ending result to be. It will tell you how much 24mg nic to add to whatever size bottle you are making, for it to end up with the level you want. You also put in whether the nic you are using is PG, VG or a combo of both and at what ratio.

When/if you decide to DIY, download the ejuicemeup calc and play around with that. It is terrific.

I did the figures and my diy juice cost me anywhere from $2-3 for a 30ml bottle. Sure beats $12-25+ from vendors.

I googled ejuicemeup, but all I see are for android, mac, linux or ipad... nothing for plain old Windows? Anybody know?

Andria

PS: also... I was planning on buying the nic at 50/50 pg/vg, but diluting it with PG to get to the proper strength, since I already have a 16oz bottle of PG -- that's why I wanted to dilute -- the 50/50 costs the same as the 75/25 or the 100% PG, and I already have the PG, so it saves me money!!!

On another note... I called my mom tonight, to share my "smoke-free for a week, yay!" progress with her, and AGAIN she's all over that "but you're just trading one addiction for another, when are you going to get off the vaping?" *sigh* I asked her why I should; she replied, well it can't be good for you. I responded that it was no worse than the caffeine in the tea I drink all day, every day, and that otherwise, it was COMPLETELY HARMLESS. She asked me how I knew -- she just doesn't GET that you can look up pretty much anything you take a notion to, on the internet. *SIGH*

This is exactly the sort of people trying to make all these legal problems for vapers -- the ignorant, the uninformed, the archaically biased.

You guys know that my notebook is getting another workout, right? I just love all this wonderful info! And it is very timely for me. I was rinsing a few of my Aro2's this morning and 1 of them came apart! I could not believe how tiny that coil/wire is, my gosh. But I did get to see the flavor wicks on top (saved them) and figured out how to put that thing back together :D So y'all explaining things tonight really
was for me, right? Andria and I are moving along, and ncpatches, too. Good company!

Mom's are like that, especially given the fact a few of us are friends of bill. I had 2 friends recently give me the same bs spiel, both ex smokers. "Those things are bad for you, just man up and quit like I did". I just smile, take a deep draw and exhale knowing I'm feeling better and like the path I'm on.

Yeah that does suck. My wife saw something on the news tonight about e-cigs and starts in a little about the miss information that they are tossing about. I gathered up a quick defense. This was one of those about kids doing ecigs is increasing things. It bothers me that they don't mention smoking is down among these age groups. I'm putting my soap box away as I don't want to rant.

We had a similar news reporting. Initially it was a bill in upcoming legislative session putting an 18 age limit on purchases. Later, they had some researching talking head from calli saying studies show this could lead to gateway path to smoking. It is a hot topic right now. It is unfortunate that there isn't a great deal of years of scientific data available to refute the bs.

I'm in NJ but I get Philly news here and they are trying to follow NY with e-cig laws in the city. So it seems every station but fox try's to sensationalize this crap.

How can you not cry when experiencing a miracle?!!!

I've always had a thing for math. I find it absolutely beautiful!

The limit of the inverse as x approaches infinity = 0.

ETA: Actually, all written language (including math) is beautiful and magical!

<- has a degree in math LOL

Late to the party... AGAIN
Is there a list here somewhere of all the vendors that offer a discount for ECF members? I know where to find the coupons, but every so often someone mentions to use a code. I supply 3 of us, so every little bit helps! And I am "thrifty"! I need to place a few orders pretty soon so I am checking sales and coupons and codes. If I save enough this way, I can get a little more in my doomsday box!
I second mtbakervapor.com I DIY and STILL usually buy from them every month. Just because the liquid is so good and inexpensive. use the coupon code vaporfrombaker and get another 10% off your order. they are already the least expensive of all the good ones out there. Start with the star ratings... 4 and 5 stars are usually pretty good.

Thanks for this info. Where do you buy your nicotine?

I get my nic and flavors, along with syringes and blunt needles at Wizard Labs. My PG and VG from Amazon, made by Essential Depot, in the quart size. Also, got all my amber glass bottles from Amazon. I checked many bottle supplier websites and Amazon was still cheaper and got free shipping. Plus, I didn't have to buy them by the case, got them 12 at a time.
Exactly what I did. Except, I didn't get an amber bottle.... I just keep it in the wrapping and stuff it in the freezer.

just FYI...
I can get 15 ml of Hawk sauce from mt baker for $4.99.
I got the flavoring, and factoring in all the costs (I reuse my bottles), it costs me $.59 to make the same amount on my own.
tradeoff, is that I don't have the same quality control they do. :)

too bad you are not closer.
for the first 3 months of vaping, when I went to visit my parents, I would open my LT and show them how safe and good vaping is.
My mom has since done some research on her own and is 100% for it.
