stuck in a squishy pod called my brain
It really burns me up when I see something about a vaper who hurt himself somehow and they never give the specifics. For me I'm sure that it was some idiot with something they shouldn't have been using and made some other screw ups but to the general public it looks like oh these things are dangerous.
i figure everyone gets '15 minutes of fame',,, and those fools chose to look stupid. i promise you if i had anything to do with my set up hurting me--there would be no way in .... that i would go let the media know just how stupid i was

That was with a dry burn at over 5 volts. Nobody could have inhaled it, but a machine that is...

Yea, that has not been the mindset for many years.
And it was repeated like 25 fires in a 3 minute period without juice.

I was thinking the same a few days ago when I left a mech mod on my counter and forgot to engage the locking ring. After 10 min, it was hot enough to burn my hand. I was lucky the battery didn't vent, but if it blew up and hurt someone, I would fully blame it on my own stupidity.

I would expect some of those injured DO say it was their fault, but the media can do a good job of editing footage based on the message they think will be the most interesting to viewers, so you never know....

Have been following along, it seems lately.

I made an appointment with a VA doctor since they have not felt the need to keep up with my disabilities. I mentioned that I stopped smoking a few years back, but that I still use a small amount of nic via vaping. He didn't like that. I told him that his information is wrong, probably bias and my health is much better according to my civilian doctor. He didn't seem to accept that. I lodged a complaint and said that I do not want to see him again.

I, and we, should find doctors that are "practicing" medicine and are humble about all the situations they encounter that they know less about. Anyway, the Director did not call me, so at my follow-up appointment, I found him. I had case studies prepared and I explained why BT & BP don't like this new smoking cessation technique. He was humbler.

Point is, I had to fight for my rights for better healthcare.

On another note; I see more DIY posts. I wonder if it is just the times. Less hardware coming out, but people switching to DIY and posting on it.

Nice to sit on the porch and follow football and ECF. Vaping a Strawberry Glazed Donut. Touch sweet, but aren't they supposed to be? Maybe I should switch to a Mocha flavor.

Hope all are well.

Sounds like that doctor should have a complaint against him. I don't go to a doctor to be frowned at. My last appt with my ex doc was in January and the receptionist wanted $165 for copay for Medicare. I said I have 2 health insurances, and the 2nd one picks up the copay. She said they did not. The doc would not see me unless I paid, and I left.

Frenchfry, vets get bad treatment too. Unfortunately.
My ex-gf friend what did I say when the doc asked if I smoked. I said no. So she insists that I lied to the doctor, then goes on to tell me 'all about e-cigs'. Okay, me involved 7 years, her 0 involvement with anything but the internet. And because I didn't agree with her, she said I was making her mad! Needless to say between that and other conversations that happen to make her mad, she's no longer my friend.

On my phone or I would not have quoted your whole post. I just wanted to say sorry the relationship ended over vaping issues to start with, but sounds like overall, it was not meant to be. We still love ya!

This whole medical thing really pi$$es me off. Last October I go by ambulance to the hospital for chest pain. Spent one day there. The bill was $43,000.00. Medicare does bargain these bills down and paid their share. Then they were supposed to send the bill to my secondary insurance to pay the rest. They didn't. So after 3 full days of phone calls and getting no where, and getting calls from a collection agency, no one knows anything. My hubby went to the hospital and got the codes and filled out the insurance paper for my secondary insurance. In August, I get a paper from the 2ndary insurance that I owe 0. Two days ago I get a call from the collection agency. I have never had so much trouble in my life. This is like my medical insurance nightmare.

I'm also in the middle of getting my penalty money $500 from IRS. They claim in 2014 I didn't file for some retirement money taken out. However, that money already had more tax taken out of it than necessary prior to even getting it. Now, why am I paying a penalty for not filing a form for some money that already had the taxes taken out??? $500 is a lot to pay for not getting a form to claim that was already taxed. They are working on it, so they say.

Bekuz according to the media itz no different than smoking. Hence... dangerous to everyone. Even second hand vape is rarely mentioned becuz they can't say it's just as bad.
Funny I guess I am an exception because my lungs are getting better.

Boy do I hear that. They came after me for 2013 and said I owed them $1600 which I did owe part of that. I was kinda confused when I did my taxes and with Railroad Retirement part of it is taxable and part of it isn't plus they tried to discount my medical bills so I paid it and refiled it and gave them the proof of my medical costs and it brought the amount I owed down to $900 so they sent me a check for $700. Can't wait to see what they think of my last IRS filing because now since my wife had to go on COBRA my medical insurance is $1450 a month. Got one more year of that then she can get on Medicure. That's a hell of a medical deduction though. It's deducted directly out of my checking account so all I have to do is go online and print out all of the deductions for the year.

I personally don't use a mech but a lot of people do and have no problems with them at all so I'm not saying anything bad about mechs it's just not my thing. I did keep my GGTS because who know it may be valuable some day. It needs to be polished because it is nickel plated and it tarnished. I don't use Kanthal but many do and love it, I like SS but I think the problem is that anyone can buy them even if they have no idea about what is safe and what is not which is where the problem lies at least that's the way it seems to me. A newbie comes along and they're purdy fairly inexpensive and don't have a clue about using them.

And the dooming now prevents any shop from even trying to teach them....

Man I have never heard of anything like that. I have Railroad Medicare which for some reason is different then regular Medicare and I hope my wife gets that too. Since she has to go on my income I would think that is what she will get because as far as Social Security is concerned I only have about $6000 of lifetime income because the RR doesn't pay into SS they have their own. It seems like RR Medicare is not even questioned and I have a supplement also through a Railroad plan and they pick up everything that Medicare doesn't including the deductibles. They don't pay anymore then regular Medicare which is usually about 1/2 of what they charge. I think they are less of a pain then regular Medicare to get paid from or something. Which is great for me with these prosthetics. They are very expensive and I am due for new ankles which are like 25K each but they take what Medicare pays so between them and my supplement free to me.

I hate to admit it - I have had doctors like that also. Really sorry you had to go through something like that just because of someone's arrogance...

Yep, better than having to carry around a purse huh?

Thanks, it really sucked.

I hate purses with a passion, for the most part. My mother sent me one some years ago, didn't like anything about it but appreciated it. Husband loved it! He's been using it ever since. It's his manbag! Apparently more durable than Deb's skillet and that's saying something. I make him wash it every three months or so before going up to visit my folks. Yes, he does carry it in the city. I just wear cargo pants.

This is how ya live in AK without freezing to death.

Nice. Miss it? Utah gets cold too though.

If they put pockets on women's clothing, they'd have to charge less...

True. Did I mention I buy men's cloths? When are you guys going to start wearing sensible bras?

Thank you for taking the time to explain your situation! Unfortunately, it is not a rare incident.

I'd rather bruise a doctor's ego than condone a medical mistake/misdiagnosis!

Amen!

Far more explaining than I intended to do. Why is it (and am I the only one?) that starts typing and then their spouse decides to tell you all their woes and adventures at work for the past four weeks while the dog suddenly decides he has to repeatedly pee right now and the phone incessantly rings?

Love to punch him where it hurts most but may need him down the road, he's that good in surgery. Reported him to someone that might actually be able to make a difference. I fervently hope she did for the sake of others. This was a teaching hospital, also where the most critical patients go, perhaps he was too complacent in being a demigod?

Don't even let your brain go there or I'll send the lawn chair after you again. :sneaky:

Good for you for fighting! I was too "sick" and ignorant to effectively fight back at the time. I've read over and over, on ECF no less (and mainstream media), how abominably our veterans are treated by the VA.

An ECFer once reported that they worked at a VA hospital. Most of the patients she (?) was involved with were long term and likely to die there. The one thing they looked forward to everyday was being wheeled out into the courtyard to socialize and have a cig. The hospital decided it was tobacco free and no longer took them out. We don't treat people like that that, we don't treat veterans like that. Hello? Smoking is legal. I don't care if they were boozing it up in the courtyard, they paid their dues have earned the right to live like free Americans. Since when did the VA earn the right to act like gods medically, ethically or by dictatorship?

Jup, DIY is flourishing all over the place. :)

About all this physician talk , the fact is the overwhelming majority of doctors have no idea about vaping.

It has not been around anywhere close to the time it takes to see what the long term health effects are . I have no doubt that it is better than smoking , thats pretty obvious but to expect most physicians to have considerable knowledge about it is totally unreasonable .

I have not had a doctor who knows about it at this point either , they are about as knowledgeable as we were when we first started out which for me was completely clueless.

I am glad they take the cautionary approach because thats what good doctors do .

I get why they need to be cautious, I don't get why they need to spew the ANTZ crap. They have brains (do you know a lot of human doctors are failed veterinarians because it takes more leanin' to become an animal doc than a human one?) and it is their job to do the hard research. Unfortunately, many are just ignorant on the subject because they just don't know better.

On my final attempt to quit, I asked my GP if he knew of any health reasons why I shouldn't vape. He said no. It was a furious five month battle but I quit cigarettes for good because he said no. Don't think he still believes that but he did list me in the hospital records as a nonsmoker in a year. The hilarious part is he literally scratches his head over all my medical tests coming back better and better. Literally. Jup, walked in on him once and he was literally scratching his head while comparing my EKGs.

In this age where they get sued for a missed hangnail, I get why they are cautious.

Talking of Rayon (which we were a few pages back) has anyone used it in Pro Tank coils? There's really no way of thinning the tails. I did a couple of them and they seem to work OK. On the Kayfun and Lemo rayon is great. Main difference I've noticed so far is I never get a dry hit no matter what. Chain vape, really long drags. Nothing upsets the rayon.

One the PT 1s, as others have said, it works great. Chop them flush with the flange, work most excellent.

Nah he lives in the Banana Belt but it's really wet there. Don't think it gets too much below 0 there. But its damp.

LOL, may be the Banana Belt but it's where many of the major dog racing kennels are. Also where the restart of the Iditarod is. Not nearly as cold as other parts of the states but they can land planes on skies on lake ice in the winter. Plus they can see the Northern Lights. Maybe you can too. Wish we could. :(

 Man, girl injured after e-cigarette explodes on Universal's Hogwarts Express ride

It's a tragedy anyone was hurt but a fireball shot out of someone's pocket and maimed her?

Can't stay up again all night, will have to answer the other questions tomorrow. Deb and DH can hold down the fort tonight. Y'all are in good hands. :)

Sounds like a few doctors that I've had. It doesn't sound like your surgeon should be allowed to speak to patients. He should be like a technician. Come in to do a job, then disappear. He didn't have to deal with it if he didn't want to or didn't feel up to it. All he had to do was refer you to someone else.

Luckily, you've got a good vascular surgeon and a really, really good friend.

I hope everything works out. Sending good vibes and wishing for the best.

I'll never understand this. Not in this day and age. It's about time for a change.

I think I'll start looking for cargo pants. I'm SOOO tired of carrying a purse.

Yes, most precious friend. Surgeon should keep his lips zipped. He's a magician with a scalpel (er, probe thingy) , not so much with his mouth.

Thank you for the good vibes and wishes, they're working. :D

I use a Rick Steves day pack for a "purse" if I have to. Weighs next to nothing. Been using it for years, going on seven or eight, with no signs of wear and it's been abused big time. Travel Shoulder Bag | Rick Steves Travel Store I see now they no longer carry the colors they used to to. Really wanted a red one, though prefer the muted colors.

Cargo pants rock, at least the men's brands do. :thumb:

I think I read somewhere that with extreme high heat (which we don't vape at) formaldehyde can be formed. Do not quote me on that, it was some study using a machine to vape, not a human.

Pretty sure that was the PSU (Portland) study. They took a top feeder, cranked the mod up, stuck it in a machine and voila, it would have killed a T-rex. It was debunked almost immediately but the ANTZ still got lots of frequent flyer miles out of it. In fact, the researchers “won $3.5 million from the National Institutes of Health to study potential health hazards of e-cigarettes over five years.” Critics demand retractions in Portland State University e-cigarette findings - Don’t need to read, just the source for $3.5 million.

Here’s a piece about the brouhaha, he even quotes Dr. Farsalinos. Oh, the misrepresentations of PSU's vaping study: Joe Nocera

I have fired a couple of doctors in my time. What some of them seem to forget is that they work for us, in effect we hire them.

:thumb:

I'm going to steal those doilies!!! I have a collection, and they would fit in nice.

Good for you! I stand up for myself quite well until I'm too sick to do so. But I have a sister & several family members & friends that are nurses that step up when needed. I've not had a Dr disapprove of vaping at all. That's not a Dr I would go to. I'd probably discontinue the visit at that point & walk out. And let them know I'd prefer a Dr that is a little less inclined to personal opinion & a little more educated. If they make me mad I'd demand documentation of how the opinion was arrived at.

Good for you and those sticking up for you but when your choices are limited, it might be best to go for the expertise and work around the biased prejudices.

The local guy that does the tests, forget the name of it, like a sonogram of a fetus in the womb, came to the independent conclusion that the blockages in my leg and and shoulder were due to the leg injury and repeated shoulder injuries. He really, really knows his stuff, it's his hobby and passion. He can't remember me from appointment to appointment, but always comes to the same conclusion. It's kind of an odd passion but I envy him for being able to compassionately help so many people.

Both vascular surgeons blame all my problems on having a been a smoker. How convenient. However, both excel in their fields. What am I supposed to do? I choose to thrive and continue to seek the best advice available. I know better now.

Imma get a Neck Basket like they advertise on tv.

What the heck is a neck basket?

Here Deb. Load this pic in your phone and look at it when you get lonesome for the beach. We live about an hour away from the beach which is way to far for me. But I loaded this pic in my phone so I can at least look at the waves when I cant be in them.
thanks :) But my phone has no service to it, so I don't know if I can. However I put a lovely background on the phone many years ago when I got it that looks a little similar to this. I do use the phone sort of as a pdf. addy book, calendar, a few apps that can be used without service, like my scripture app etc.

We had a cold snap last night, it got down to 70. Weather app says it's 78 now, but my cold feet & legs say the weather app is lying again.
67 now. I actually had to put long pants on and a 3/4 sleeve shirt earlier today, I wuz freezin!!

Columbia® style shirt,
wondered what kind those were. Might make me look like a guy with long hair, but I don't care. Would love to have some of those and some cargo shorts. I hate carrying a purse. And the only thing in my purse, that I couldn't carry with that combination is my handicap parking permit. well, I could but it would probably be stickin up outta a back pocket.

Watch yer spellin' huney.
.....

I use so many different flavors it is hard to say if I use different flavors in extreme temperatures but when we had a heat wave I did vape some Cherry Blossom Tea in the heat. In the colder weather one thing I do is raise the wattage to compensate for the cold weather. Needs more heat?
what pg/vg ratio do you vape, and what nic level. Wondering if that has to do with why you like the cherry blossom tea so much and legs hated it so bad, or if it's just different tastey buds, like how legs likes the baker flavor strawberry so much and Matt couldn't stand it.

Got Ginnys Tc40's they are real and look real purdy. She likes them. So vapeshop.com is a good place ordered 3 days ago and here already.
yay!!! Glad you found a good place to get em!

i grew up with snow and ice,, but now in southern Texas I call anything below 80* a blizzard and the warmer clothes come out. ---proud wimp :)
my kinda girl! lol

I don't know how many times I caught myself flicking my first ecig. Took a while to get that habit out of my system. Flicked it out of my hand a few times...
lmao! Jup

I gave mine away to a bud that begged me for it over and over again - he collected them. I had mine engraved in each country I had visited with the countries name in their language - I don't know how many times I have since wished I had kept it for nostalgia sake...
oh wow........ I can imagine you wish you had. Awful nice thing to do, but those were definitely personal memories.

I'm asking what everyone else does. For instance do you start wanting a pumpkin pie juice, or a hot chocolate in colder weather, & fruits in summer?

Good!!!

Almost six years. I've never vaped at the beech. :( Not once.
Oh you have to!!! I always felt a little guilty smokin at the beach. Well, most of that was done in Galveston and the beaches were already nasty, but woulda felt real guilty smokin on the beautiful beaches in FLA, but not a twinge of guilt vaping there. Just so peaceful and relaxing!

My dream to see IRL Humpbacks are one of my favorite whales.

Find me a place where it stays in the 70s year round, and I'll move there.
well Bea beat me to it with Hawaii, but I will specify Oahu. Never been there, but from watching shows about some of the other islands can vary a lot more in temps, but Oahu seems to stay right around 70 all the time. And.........when you move there.....take me with you please!! "no one" will mind :p

Excellent!! So proud of you!!! and actually proud of him! Rare to find a doc that can be humble these days, even if they are humiliated into it.

I have no doubt that it is better than smoking , thats pretty obvious but to expect most physicians to have considerable knowledge about it is totally unreasonable .
Welcome to the porch! Glad to have you here! But I disagree with this. If it's painfully obvious to lay people, I would certainly by now expect most physicians to have at least a decent knowledge of vaping since smoking is one of the biggest killers there is, and vaping is helping more people quit than any other cessation product. It's been out long enough for them to have at least researched it somewhat rather than simply regurgitating pseudo science articles. The problem is (I believe), they're too afraid to recommend it due to malpractice, and I would not be at all surprised if they aren't intimidated by the FDA if they came out strongly allianced with vaping. There are some who recommend it to their patients, including a pulmonologist (lung doctor) that my sil went to before he retired. Her new one isn't as enlightened. I fired a resident who told me he hated to burst my bubble but vaping was just as bad. I told him I hated to burst his bubble, but I am doing actual field research of a sort every day here on ECF where I have heard many hundreds of stories of lung function improvement, (including my own) of folks who couldn't walk a block that are now running......chest xrays that show remarkable improvement (even though a respiratory therapist friend of mine is certain that lungs do not recover). Folks who were extreme COPD that now aren't. etc. And that if I could learn this......he certainly could....... and I expected him to do some research on it himself, rather than regurgitating JAMA or some other BS publications of false science on the subject. I then told my next doctor what I'd told him and that is was the reason I wouldn't see the other guy more than that one time. The new guy was also a resident, but admitted he knew little about vaping, but would be researching it, and the little he did know made him feel it was a much safer thing than smoking.

I think I read somewhere that with extreme high heat (which we don't vape at) formaldehyde can be formed.
jup and that is the only "testing" I've heard that connected formaldehyde with vaping.

I can't even remember the last time I had a dry hit
I can.......but it was my fault, I forgot to squonk. I do that sometimes, but I'm about a nano second into the hit when I realize it, so I stop and squonk. Have only had two really bad ones.

I guess what I really don't understand is why people are so against it, how does it harm them, it helps people but they jsut don't seem to see that. I don't get it.
don't try to figure it out hun, it's all about money, not logic. People are sheeple and the FDA is so in bed with BT and BP and BP makes NO money at all from vaping, so it has to be demonized. Bottom line! In Britain with socialized medicine, money is not a factor in the equation. shock of shocks, they've come out heavily in support of vaping.

I was thinking the same a few days ago when I left a mech mod on my counter and forgot to engage the locking ring. After 10 min, it was hot enough to burn my hand.
what caused it to fire though? was it a tube mech that sits on it's fire button?

Sorry if I created negative vibes. But, I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. :)
you've been here a long time, and I don't think you've ever done that hun. :)

(do you know a lot of human doctors are failed veterinarians because it takes more leanin' to become an animal doc than a human one?) and it is their job to do the hard research. Unfortunately, many are just ignorant on the subject because they just don't know better.
didn't know many are failed vets, but I do know vets require far more training. All human bodies work essentially the same way......the wide variety of animal species and even breeds within species vastly differ! Far more anatomy, physiology and epidemiology to learn than human docs. Not to mention many have to be a surgeon, anesthesiologist, orthopedist, neurologist etc etc etc. even if they specialize in only small animal, or only equine. Have been loving watching Dr Dee and she absolutely amazes me with all she knows about all kinds of animals, large, small, fuzzy, feathery, scaly, all of it, and .... learned to be a pilot on top of all that! Massive smarts in that woman, and yet she is so down to earth, funny, can laugh at herself, and so incredibly compassionate to all animals, even the human kind.

Plus they can see the Northern Lights. Maybe you can too. Wish we could. :(
One of the things on my bucket list. I got a big bucket, so it's a big list!

 Man, girl injured after e-cigarette explodes on Universal's Hogwarts Express ride

It's a tragedy anyone was hurt but a fireball shot out of someone's pocket and maimed her?
"pen style" the type that the FDA wants us to go back to using rather than the safer ones we now have. "no serious injuries or major damage done" but we'll put it in headlines as tall as the empire state bldg.

I use a Rick Steves day pack for a "purse" if I have to
looking at yur link.....I used one just like it for years but mine was a maxpedition that my nephew gave me that had a really thick, inflexible strap that hurt my neck. mine is camo

What the heck is a neck basket?

I'm pretty sure "someone" would mind,;) but if I take more than one person with me, I'll see about putting you on the list. Course it's gonna be a long time till I can even think about it.
