Legs I am probably going to need your expertise in the near future. A newbie I have been helping for the last few months mailed me an EVic VTC mini and a smok TFV4 mini (I also have several subtank minis. She is determined I try temp control. She said she mailed several Ni premade coils for the subtank so I can dive in with them.

Problem is I am truly clueless on temp control and eventually will be wanting to build my own coils. So if you can manage to explain the theory behind this without getting too technical that would be much appreciated.

Ok, caught up on one thread! The 404's and an iPad with way too much stuff on it were NOT a good combination :).

Temp control. @2legsshrt and @Wolfenstark , perhaps it's time for y'all to start a little dialogue on this thread, hum? Cuz I'm clueless, too, an' the new, about to be released Billet Box is going to have TC. BB's

I used to drink PBr in about 75. I liked Rainier when it was still made in Seattle but they didn't sell it in S. Dakota where I had gone to with the Railroad. They sold it in Montana and I called a store there and they said yeah they had it so we drove 200miles each way and I was going to stock up, he had one 6 pack. Couldn't believe it. Before I quit drinking I liked Bud Light the best. I thought that was a pretty good beer.

Good to see you again, Sir! :)

I started out with Schlitz beer (not the malt beverage)... that's what my grandpappy drank, so it was easy for me to snitch a couple when he wasn't lookin'! I was a teen at the time and working in his tire shop/mom-n-pop country gas station/convenience store during the summers... he kept a fridge full of beer in the shop. Occasionally I'd take a break and let him know I was gonna run into the store and grab a coke... he'd guffaw and tell me to just grab a beer and get back to work! LOL I never tried Rainier, we didn't have that in the South. As for Bud, I've never really been a fan... I was a Miller Lite guy for a while. Now, when I do buy beer (pretty rarely) it's Shiner Bock or whatever really dark beer sounds good at the time. I've found that I appreciate 1 good Stout over half a dozen light pilsners any day.

Hilarious story about the 400 mile round trip for a 6 pack though!! I'm pretty sure I'd have had that guy on the phone lookin' for a coupla more cases! ;)

Yeah the 350J is excellent I think the 350J V2 is even a little better can't wait to see how the 450 works.

Dang!! You're more up on that than I am! I didn't even know there was a V2... let alone a 450. I try to keep a decent handle on available tech, but I won't even pretend to know everything... there is still a lot out there and coming soon that I don't know anything about.

Well, after a day of 404 errors, finally back on ECF! {{{legs}}}!!!

HA! Tell me about it... I got in here a little yesterday morning, then couldn't get in at all for the rest of the day...

LOLOLOLOL!!!! Yeah, Pabst Blue Ribbon... :shudders: So, there ya go @kad2371... looks like we can send it ALL to Gary! ;)

G'morning, Ladies! Glad to see y'all are doing well this morning and that Myrany survived the floods!

As for TC: Nickel coils are fine for me if they are pre-made in coil heads... but they are a pain to wrap, mostly because the wire is so soft and it is very easy to cut the legs in the posts when installing them. Titanium (Grade 1 only) is much easier to work with, but it is a bit springy... I've not worked with SS wire yet, so no insight there. Other than that, if you can work VW, you can work TC... some mods allow you to set wattage AND temp, others allow you to only set temp and it handles everything with the wattage. In both cases, the mod monitors the temp and then regulates the wattage to maintain the set temperature. So basically you just install your preferred coil and wick, add juice, set temp and vape... I usually start out around 350°F and set the wattage for a quick ramp up. For example, the Invader Mini allows both temp and wattage setting. It is a 50W mod... I'll install a titanium coil, set temp at 350°F, wattage at 50W, and vape... then adjust the temp until everything tastes right.

That's the relatively short version of how I've done it, anyway... ;)

Thanks Kaez!

So even if you set the temp you also need to set the wattage? That seems odd since in my head they both do the same thing.

Ramp up? Not a clue what you mean here.

So grade 1 titanium is what I want to get my paws on. Followed that much YAY. I am guessing the Ohms of the coils is so much lower because of the properties of metal itself.

As for the weather. Its still raining. They say we are going to get another 5-8 inches today. I don't think either of us have seen rain like this since the floods in 1991.

You're welcome!

On some devices, yes. If they allow a wattage setting AND a temp setting, then the wattage that you set is the max wattage that it will go to before regulating. (like when you first hit the fire button)

Ramp up? Not a clue what you mean here.

As above... if you max out the wattage with the temp on devices that allow it, that decreases the ramp up time. Ramp up time is how long it takes the coil to get hot. Short ramp time decreases the lag time between hitting fire and getting vapor.

So grade 1 titanium is what I want to get my paws on. Followed that much YAY. I am guessing the Ohms of the coils is so much lower because of the properties of metal itself.

Yes. Grade 1 Titanium is "Surgical Grade" and is 99.99% pure. You are also correct that resistance will be lower because of the properties of the metal. Nickel is even lower resistance than titanium.

Also, you NEVER want to dry fire or dry burn titanium or nickel. Never, ever allow it to glow.

As for the weather. Its still raining. They say we are going to get another 5-8 inches today. I don't think either of us have seen rain like this since the floods in 1991.

Yeah, it's pretty steady here too... it seems to have slacked off a bit for the time being. Fortunately for me, I wasn't here in 91... We did have some pretty good flooding in the past year or two here though... people flooding out cars on exit ramps and underpasses. I blame a complete lack of common sense for those. ;)

Be careful out there! Try to keep yourself high and dry!

I've heard others say that. So you can't clean it? Just need to recoil?

Best you can do for titanium is to brush the coil lightly with a small brush if you can. Another good trick is to dampen a small bit of paper towel with a couple of drops of juice and wipe the outside of the coil with it. It removes quite a bit of the burnt juice... not everything, but a good bit. Otherwise, yes, you just need to re-coil it. On the up side, I've gotten over a month with the same coil/rayon wick on TC with no issues.

Thanks Kaez! That makes a little more sense.

They have not called school for tomorrow yet though I think they probably will. So the earliest I could possibly have to poke my nose out the door is tomorrow morning to drive the hubby to work (teacher).

In town there are low lying areas to avoid in any rain event and they are well known. Out in the Parish though I am hearing it is REALLY bad. Which is why we are kinda thinking school will get called again.

Glad I could explain it a little more. Just know that some mods allow for wattage AND temp settings, and some mods only allow for temp settings. Not even going to get into the ones that allow for joule settings... ;) Just lemme know which mod you're playing with and I'll see what I can figure out for ya.

Good that you don't have to go out in this... it's actually stopped raining here for now. I expect it'll probably pick back up at some point, but I'm grateful for the dry moment! I went outside for a good vape just a minute ago so I could feel the sunlight... what little there is of it! :p

You're probably right... they do try to take into account as to whether or not the outliers can make it in or not. So we'll keep fingers crossed for another day's reprieve!

Another question.

If I buy Ti I need to figure out what gauge wire (haven't looked so maybe there is only 1).

I tend to run kanthal builds a .5-.7 ohm using 28 gauge kanthal. What do I need gauge wise for Ti to get a similar vape and what ohms am I shooting for.
