Just put a 1.48-ohm coil in a new EhPro kayfun v1 clone (yep, built that bad boy myself). I'm getting just a hint of a scorched taste. I've noticed it from time to time on the other kayfun I have in use. I have no doubt it's a wicking problem, even though I was mindful of how I did it. It's not so bad that I can't vape it. Just doesn't taste good. What would you folks suggest? Too much wick? Too little?

(FYI: I using KGD organic cotton)

Well, there's the problem, cotton!

Yes, pics would help... but cotton tends to swell a tad when wet. Too much, and after swelling it may choke off the juice flow. Too little and it may lose contact with the upper parts of the coil, and scorch.

And did you start at a lower than normal power setting, and saturate the wick with juice before firing up?

I generally have multiple KFs going, all with different flavors, so when I clean/rewick, I'm never sure what flavor is going to go in. So I saturate my wick (rayon) with unflavored at my usual nic. Then start at a lower power level until the flavor of whatever went in starts to come through before taking the power up in steps.

@MikeADore, it's half way down the first page, here, Authentic Svoemesto Kayfun Mini V3. It's the 2nd vid. Long, but fast forward to where he coils and wicks. HTH!
Thanks, LittleBird. Very informative. He's about the most meticulous wicker I've ever seen, but that's a good thing.

I did saturate the wick before using, and I have it on a Provari 2.5 at 3.5 volts. I suspect I just messed the wick up. I'm pretty new to all this, but I think I'm starting to develop a tiny bit of instinct about it. When I put it in, I had the feeling one side was a bit thick, and one side was a bit long and thin, but I went ahead and tried it. After lunch, I'll take another shot at it. I have actually gotten some great taste from the Kayfun when I (accidentally) got the wick right.

I do plan to try Rayon soon. I've been concentrating on essentials for now because I fear after Aug. 8, when the "tobacco product" provision kicks in, I might not be able to order online in my state where tobacco products must be purchased face to face. I'm getting close to having a solid supply of necessities on hand, but still got a way to go with a few things. Just ordered glass bottles this morning to store a gallon of nic in the freezer. Nic is the one biggie that I fear I won't have access to come Aug. 8, and I'll probably get a bit more with July 4 sales. If I had to, I could pay the higher price for mods and attys at my B&M even if I can't order online.

He is that! His method is also what he (and Qorax) recommended for the Erlkonigin, and that's where I learned it. The Erl was notoriously fussy on wicking (which is why I gave it away :)). Anywho, it's second nature, now. Just takes a minute.

I just ordered rayon. The box looks to hold enough for my lifetime and that of all of my friends. Hope I like the stuff!

Um, ordered rayon? Methinks the shipping will be more than the big box at Sallys!

Once you figure out the density of the wick (and yes, it does vary depending on the material!), KFs for tootle and modwomping are easy. And, of course, KFs aren't really made for - or good for! - sub-ohm cloud chasing.

I'm lazy, and generally can't be bothered with all the fancy steps. With roughly equal amounts on both sides of the coil, I put the vapor chamber back on, stuffing both ends of the wick through as I do. Even them out, cut about 1/8 - 3/16" above the top of the chamber, and gently push the ends down on both sides of the block, fluffing out as you go. Toothpick works well for that, although now it's probably another tobacco product....

Wet with juice, put the chimney on, and put a drop of juice on the end of the chimney to lubricate the top cap o-ring when you finish.

Amazon Prime. No shipping. Ginormous box. :)

I thought I read that you use a bit more rayon than cotton - i.e., tighter in the coil. Is that right? Also, I don't "break in" a cotton bacon wick. Should I break in a rayon wick?

I can't figure out what it is with this Merlin. It has a rubbery taste. Seems like no matter what I do it still has it. I thought I had it figured out when I changed juice bottles but it is still there. I've washed it 3 times still there. I just can't figure it out.

Maybe it's the seals leaching into the juice? Dunno................

Anybody ever dealt with Origin Vape? I'm thinking real seriously about ordering a Kayfun V5 and they say their in stock but everyone else sold out in a couple hours so it makes me wonder.
They're an authorized dealer, Pat.

OK just can't figure out why they would be in sock there and no where else. Been that way all weekend.
A couple of vendors got new stock at the end of last week. The vendor I use (Heather's Heavenly Vapes) was expecting their shipment last Friday, but it was delayed.

Went ahead and re-wicked the Kayfun. Working great now. I think the original wick was a bit chincy. Skinny, like me. Let us know what you think of the rayon. My main attraction is that you apparently just stuff as much as the coil will allow because it shrinks when you put the juice to it.
