Hi, FlamingoTutu!

No, a *vaper ony* would not become addicted to nicotine. They added extra amounts of nicotine and manipulated ways for it to cross over to the BBB after the first inhalation so that people started relying on that high that would hit their CNS like a freight train. Henry Waxman, who I still see a lot of to this day, just would not let them weasel out of the questions so easily. When vaping, nicotine is not delivered in the same way at all. When I was at 8 mg I barely noticed. I did not vape more to compensate, but at the very beginning I did like crazy! I have been nicotine-free for nearly two years, but that is only because I wanted to ween myself off so I would not have any sort of addiction. For myself, I have quite a behavioral addiction to inhaling and exhaling -- it's an oral addiction. I am going to fill a soda straw with cotton at one end for resistance to see if I might be able to fool myself in between using my vape by taking deep breaths and exhaling the same way I vape.

Another thing that is interesting is that nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae). Lower quantities in potato, tomato, eggplant and green pepper, morning glory -- also the leaves of the coco plant, but it is predominant in tobacco. (maybe that is why I eat french fries at home so often!) I remember before heady exams that I would load up on nicotine and caffeine in order to increase brain activity. I did better on tests. When they studied alertness among smokers, they found much higher scores, but not an increase in overall intelligence, just in being able to keep doing the same tasks over and over faster and with higher accuracy rates than in nonsmokers. I thought my recall was faster when I was a smoker, but that all changed after being off of it for a few years. I drink coffee and without caffeine I get grouchy! I'll check out the threads you mentioned!!!
You forgot cauliflower. :D There's a bush in Australia that has a higher concentration of nic. It's also in some teas, and the list goes on. And they can make it synthetically. Nic being a tobacco product is just a huge farce and boils down to nothing but greed. I live for the day when what we know about nic/vaping becomes common knowledge. They want us to keep smoking, I refuse.

I had/have severe ADHD. Tried smoking at 12 but only to learn how to blow smoke rings. Didn't know until I came to ECF that I had been self-medicating all those decades. Never liked it, except for those special moments, like getting off a plane after seven hours, but could never quit no matter how hard I tried. FDA approved stuff was a joke, the pills a nightmare.

Congratulations on being nic free for two years!

Not surprising. I know of another organization like that. Human nature can get like that, when people are trying to protect their financial livelihood.

I could not escape Catholicism fast enough. I was in Boston when cardinal bernard shaw and his consorts were busted. I did not capitalize his name for good reasons. But there are many others as well. We are freethinkers over here. I hope people don't hate me or my husband because we are nullifidians. We care about the plight of humanity deeply.

I think there are other places on the forum to discuss such things....the front porch is not the place for such topics.....just saying....

We avoid specifics in order to comment on the human condition.

THANX!!!
Good for you!! I had been thinking of all the research being done on Alzheimer's and I hope they are studying nicotine! This could lead to a major breakthrough! All the women in my family got Alzheimer's, and now anytime I can't remember something I immediately think I am turning into my mother!!! I just can't let that happen! My aunt had no idea who I was. Horrible disease -- and her entire personality changed, too.

No problem. I am proud of the person I am!!!! Oh, Just saying. I KNOW who I am and do not push it on anyone else -- to do so is blatant prejudice! But I refuse to be afraid of speaking my mind. I do not "bite my tongue either."

I agree that money is one of the main goals of government, but even more it is about being in control of every aspect of our lives. Super size soda, transfat, and all the other idiotic ideas these dingbats come up with. It is really about the power to control everything they want to control.............that would be us..........there is no form of life that is lower than a government beaurocrat...........:-x:-x:-x

They are a group that does exactly what they are told no matter how it destroys other groups. It reminds me of the nazis who always say they were only following orders. Our government scares me a lot sometimes, but I have to believe we have too many good people who would revolt if they really went too far. ...I hope!

I really wonder why I never see Uncle Willie here anymore. Hmmm. Interesting. ;) He actually was quite intelligent. I'll have to find a list of everyone who left and ... why.
UW often leaves for a week or so at a time. Don't worry. He will be back, entertaining us with his stories and DJ skills.

Sorry to report that Trip my 2 YO chocolate lab was put to sleep today. His condition worsened over the past week to the point that he could hardly stand or walk. His vet was still working with other neuro-vets to find another alternative treatment but was unsuccessful in offering anything. It was a hard decision but I really think for his sake it was the best thing. Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers.

That's good. I didn't know he was a DJ. I'm a Berklee and Conservatory musician. I have to start working on Vivaldi. I do the Vivaldi concerto for mandolin and guitar. I am going to post some of our work when we can -- but some of the work is not under our copyright and I would be killed with a standup bass spike if I were to just let it out there unprotected! I write and arrange all the time. We also do an entire acoustic version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. Now that was a challenge.

Music is good therapy for sad situations or panic attacks. It helped me through the first three months of transitioning to vaping.
I almost went into music therapy, but that field is entirely different. It's interesting as I look back, that I rarely met a creative person, especially musician, who did not smoke. I hope most have gone to vaping by now. I have lost too many friends to cancer. I came close myself. I am certain I never would have gotten ovarian stage one had I been a nonsmoker. My oncologist agrees with me -- and she used to smoke, too.

Deepest condolences. Nothing is harder.
