I was at my parent's house when it happened. Probably smoked a a pack and a half of cigarettes, blowing the smoke up the chimney, trying to come to grips with the disaster before I could stop watching the TV coverage. What a sad day.
I was one of the Managers of a high end store directly across from NASA JSC for 2 years prior to the disaster, & an area resident since 1978. This precious people & the other crews were in & out of my store almost daily. My youngest sister went to school with some of their kids, & they were a part of our community. They were our neighbors. 2 months before the disaster my store was closed & I changed jobs & went to work at a competitor. At the time of the accident I was in a management meeting. One of the secretaries interrupted to give us the news. It was devastating for our community, adults, as well as our children were deeply effected. Every road & parking lot for blocks around JSC were packed & people stood on the sides of the roads until long after dark that night. The cardboard "shuttle" that was sent here when Obama ended the Shuttle progam is an insult & abomination. It would be better to have nothing.
