I agree. I've had a coil in one of my tugboats since at least September. Granted I don't use that coil everyday, but starting out it was the only coil I had that I knew worked (mostly because someone built it for me...) so it was put through it's paces. I would SWAG that it's probably burned through over 200 ml of juice.

Regular cleaning and rewicking does much towards extending a coil's life.

If I missed it, apologies, but do you dry burn only or do you dry burn and rinse in water?

Yep I do rinse under water. I glow the gunk and immediately dowse it under the faucet. Repeat if needed. Then I use a toothbrush to clean up and residual ash that's on the coil. (I always ask my dentist for a child size toothbrush when they offer a freebie after my 6 month checkups, a nice source of free vape gear - he, he). After brushing if it looks like a well used / worn out BBQ grill - then I replace the coil. Coils last me about 2 months.

Good'ay Good Folks!

Here, lemme just get this out of the way.....

yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa!

I'm finally caught up!

I'm finally caught up!

Got WAY behind during the holidays, and was determined not to quote/post until I got caught up... well, here I am. :D

Now, I can't think of anything to say.

Welcome back - missed ya!

hehehe One of these days an archaeologist is gonna find all these 1/2 packs of fossilized cigs tucked under piles of kanthal......and that'll be a real head scratcher!

Nice one!

Oh no! Say it ain't so! Looks like our first casualty of the impending gub'ment regulations and the Chinese clones.

Super-T Manufacturing is going out of the e-cig business. Here's the gist of their email sent out tonight.

"Unfortunately, we've just found with the current climate and influx of Chinese clones and the high cost of US Manufacturing, it just isn't viable anymore."

The been a leader and pacesetter for the 5 years they were in business. I suppose like a lot of 'small business' startups - it ain't easy to compete in today's markets.

They are having a 'going out of business sale' if anyone is interested in quality mech mods made in the USofA.

For those that don't know, an acid brush is just a cheap small paintbrush with a metal tube as a handle. Used to apply Flux in soldering plumbing fittings and sometimes to clean electronic circuit boards. Used them all the time while I was in the Navy. Really nice thing is they are cheap, I can buy 50 at the home center for around 5 bucks.

Sent with no malice and not a whole lot of forethought from my new Galaxy Tab 4. Thanks Santa!

Dear Jesus, I know all too well what an acid brush is. When I order, I order by the hundreds.

Did you all see where the Gubmint is thinking about raising the gas tax. Say they're not getting enough income now that the price has gone down. Problem is that they won't take it off when the price goes back up.

Yep, that's the way it goes.

Glad to see you back! I got behind too with the holidays and family stuff. I tried to catch up and kept marking posts to reply to, but it just got way out of hand. Then I couldn't think of what to say either!! Hope you had some memorable holiday fun and I'm glad you're back.

That, and too soft to break loose any hardened gunk. But very useful to vapers for cleaning, drying inside chimneys and drip tips, and so on.

They're great for cleaning out the drip tips. Then I got some small brushes a long time ago from Amazon that come in different sizes, but they're all pretty little so they're great for vaping purposes.

Lately I've seen a couple comments bout issues with health cabin and folks not ordering from them no more. they were just comments, so I don't know what the issues were, but think I would forego them.

So sad! I hadn't heard anything lately about them. But, I ordered a lot from them in the early days.

I really miss the Health Cabin co-op. It stopped when they discontinued the big discount for ordering in volume.

Well, gotta get an ohm meter tomorrow. My coil on the KF crapped out today. I don't trust my abilities enough to just plant one on my MVP to test it yet, so a shopping I will go! I'll have to call around & find someplace close that has them, tho, thee local place is out of them, of coursee. Plus I think I deserve a bottle of CLR. I haven't had any in 3 months & I found another Christmas gift card I haven't used yet!

Actually, no, I wasn't joking. On occasion, if I would spill a little, I would rub it on my gums. I would immediately start to hiccup. It was just a little. I couldn't have ingested that much nicotine, could I?

I think the answer is yes, you could have ingested that much. 1 gram of Redman chewing tobacco has 8.6mg of nicotine. 1ml of 24mg eliquid has almost 3 times as much nicotine, and is in a form that's much more readily absorbsed by your cheek and gums (in solution, instead of bound up in the tobacco leaf). So, you'd get much more of a spike in nicotine blood levels from applying the liquid to your gums than you would from chewing a similar volume of chewing tobacco. Now, granted, 1g of chewing tobacco isn't that much chewing tobacco. On the other hand, 1gm of Skoal Original has 13.3mg of tobacco, and is a reasonable amount of snuff to use. It's also more finely ground, so the nic would be absorbed much more quickly, and I've gotten the hiccups from Skoal before. But, 24mg e-liquid is still almost twice as strong.

I got 2 itazte VV's and they tell you ohms, watts, puffs, volts.

Actually, big tobacco is a lot of those products you see on the shelves at convenience stores now. About 2 years ago they finally figured out they weren't going to snuff out the vaping phenomenon and started buying up vaping companies and producing their own brands. The last to the race to make money off off vaping has been Phillip Morris (MO). I do a lot of individual investing so I have been following this story for a while.

I remember in the early 2000's PM lost a law suit and their stock went from $49.00 to $14.00. Of course within a month or so, it was back up again. While this was all happening, I was losing lots of money to the bursting bubble.

I dry burn then brush it if with a acid brush that I cut down so it's a little stiffer than normal. Very lightly brush if there are any spots that won't just blow off with a hard breath. You can even get a few bristles into the interior of the coil if you are careful to remove any interior junk. I rinse it before dry burning to get the excess juice off before starting the whole process. Rinses the juice out of the wick before I CAREFULLY trim it short as close to the coil as I can, so I can try to avoid messing up the coil as I remove the wick. Then I rinse it again to get any wick fibers and excess juice off. Blow off the excess water and blow through the air holes to clear them. I then burn it at around 20 watts. Let it get good and red but not so hot as to melt the leads. Most of the time a small fire ensues as the crapola burns off. Let the fire go out on its own then let the coil cools as I blow off the ash. Then if needed, lightly, VERY lightly brush off any caked on junk. Repeat the process until I am satisfied with the cleanliness of the coil. Check during the process that the coil is heating properly from the center out with no hot spots. Once satisfied let it cool and re-wick as if it was a new coil, after all it really is.
Using this process I can get a coil to last a long time. 2 or 3 months is not unusual.

My normal process is much like yours. Dry-Burn, rinse, and repeat until most of the gunk is off. I never thought of an acid brush, but I can see that working well trimmed down. Since I'm a GM I use the ol' Small Arms General Cleaning Brush (NSN:1005-00-494-6602) in a few different bristle styles for just about all my cleaning needs.
p_668000022_1.jpg
The Grey is Stainless bristles. It'll clean up just about anything off of the deck and posts but will destroy even the hardiest of coils.
The Gold color is bronze. It'll de-dunk just about anything from a coil. I don't use it on anything smaller than 26g though.
The blue and white are nylon bristles (Medium and soft) that are perfect for delicate cleaning on and around the coil.

For inside the coil I use a variety of pipe cleaners including cotton, nylon and bronze bristles as well as the occasional modified barrel bore brush, dental picks and even a Dremel. Finally the coil gets one final round of dry burns and dressing to make sure I like the shape and that I'm getting consistent, even heating.

I'm a GM so you know most of my job description is based around cleaning and shining "things" plus I'm an armorer and a 2M tech so most of the tools that I use at work to clean tiny gun parts and electronics translate nicely to keeping my vaping gear "ship shape"!

Welcome back to the head of the pack umanbean! One thing about the porch, you miss 12 hours and you can be 10-15 pages behind. I'm scared to death of not showing up at least twice a day.

I have my "settings" at 40 posts/page, and was over 20 pages behind... whew!

It was worth plodding through tho, I cut/pasted lots of useful info and links into my "ECF info" Word doc.

Thank you Janet, it's good to be back. This group is directly responsible for helping me with my early struggles to stick with ecigs, and not go back to burning tobacco. I found "part one" of this thread (before we moved to the front porch :) ) the day after I got my first Ego 650 + CE4 in April '13. There were many times early on when I was having equipment problems and was sorely tempted to just go buy a pack. The moral (and material) support from the good folks in this thread helped keep me from doing that. Forever grateful.

Remember the main appeal of an acid brush is" cheap ".

That's a pretty odd belated Christmas present, a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner? CalciumLimeRust??

Don't have the V2 MVP, but check the itty bitty manual to see how to read ohms without firing. Should be pretty easy. On the VV3, you just press both the up and down buttons at the same time and hold them both down. Reads, doesn't fire.

While also very similar, if I get to the point where I need stainless or bronze wire brushes, I just wrap a new coil. Quicker :)

Well, that is capitalism. The best survive. I have to say that competition help, very much, to keep the prices low. Their ARE a lot of U.S. "upstart" vaping businesses that are looking for the fast buck, but don't have the business sense. I see it all the time. Setting up mall kiosks, very nice lounge areas with expensive stuff, but no people, not carrying a balance of products, a lot will fall. I am surprised their are so many with the internet vendors. Many stores in other product categories are closing, too.

Quality is not necessarily made in the U.S. Anyway, life goes on...
