I use readers. The highest magnification is 3.0 which works 90% of the time. But, sometimes I have to get right down on it to see and I have a "jeweler's" headset. The lenses on it are 3.0 also, but it has a monocle with 7.0 magnification which equals a total of 10x magnification.

I got the jewelers headset on eBay for 11-$13. It has little side lights but they are to cheap. I got a good, powerful, LED lamp that works a lot better.

I've only tried the Kuro Coiler once. My coil overlapped. But, I know it takes a little practice.

The difference is probably that the Sophia uses a ceramic cup and takes NR-R-NR wire. A totally different animal. And, the hardest part of building a coil is attaching it correctly and wicking it.

That's where I was running into problems with my kayfun. Trying to hold onto the base, the coil, and the screwdriver, while also keeping all that and the magnifier all lined up so that I could see what I was doing.

Maybe I just need to learn how to take better advantage of my Helping Hands Magnifier thingy. So far, I don't know what to do with any of it except for the magnifier part. I wonder if those clamps are of any use in rebuilding or if I should just take that part off.
Try attaching the base to a mod that will hold it still for you while you install the coil. Then you'll have 2 hands free for the coil.

Tried to make a coil on my CoilMaster with the wick included before wrapping. It's a no-go. The screw that grabs the wire can neither avoid grabbing the wick nor can it grab the wick good enough to include it properly in the coil.

With a coil jig it takes only a few seconds to make a coil... takes about 2 seconds per wrap. The hardest thing about it is to know how far to turn to get the last whole or half turn that you want to end up with, which avoids having to do any leg bending.

I use reading glasses, sometimes over my regular glasses because of astigmatism. I keep my base screwed into the ohmmeter. I don't hold onto the coil itself, I use the screw that I wrap my coils on to move the legs into position. Except for tightening the post-screws, I could do it one-handed.
I would love to see a video of that! Pretty please! I want to be able to do that.
If by that you mean stopping winding, that's going to affect the tension.
No, not while winding usually. Usually while trying to mount the coil.

Mount the base on something solid so you don't have to hold it. I drilled a hole in a small piece of wood and jammed a thread adapter into it, then put the coil base into that. Or, in the case of KFs, the KF base. Keep the coil on the screwdriver until mounted. And it can help when removing the driver from the coil to spin it slowly as you pull it out.
I had the base on my ohm meter. Once I put it all on my mouse pad, it didn't slide around as much. But, ideally the magnifier and the ohm meter (or whatever the base is screwed into) would be attached to the same base so that, if they moved around, they would move in unison.

Next time should be a little easier. As long as I remember what I learned this time. Start with everything sitting on my mouse pad so it won't slide around so much. And, don't use the little double-sided screw drivers. The one I tried to use fell apart! So, I had to go searching for a better little screwdriver.

As long as I remember all the little things I learn each time, each time should get easier.

Yet another 'tip' to confuse you w/ more options. I mainly wrap 2.5mm coils. After making the coil, I'd put it on a round toothpick before screwing it to the atty. The toothpick was a decent fit and light enough to let me easily balance the coil over the air hole, actually resting on the air hole. Then after attaching the leads, I'd grab each end of the toothpick and lift the coil up to get clearance (~2mm) off the air hole.

Pretty much what I do, too, Mike, although I wind on a 2 mm screwdriver and just leave it there until tight and aligned.

"Dollar" stores often have sets of jewelers 'drivers. Uh, for $1

I made a coil jig like this one.

I usually use 42ga wire. I like to wind in the neighborhood of 10K for neck pickups and 15K for bridge pickups.

Oh wait. Wrong kind of coil. Never mind.

I've got readers that work well for reading things that are 1 to 2 feet away. Then, I have some readers that I bought online. I bought the strongest they had (out of frustration). They're 6.0! A little overkill! But, they do work well for anything that's only 4 inches from my face.

The led headlamp bands are wonderful things for many applications.
I bought a headset that magnifies and has a light before I bought my Helping Hands Magnifier. It was way too heavy to actually use. I would have to actually go in person to find one that works for me. It would be a lot handier to have one less thing to juggle! Where did you get yours? Is it heavy?

It might actually be easier with a mod in a mod stand instead of my meter. It would put it at a better height, closer to the magnifier. I'll try that next time.

Even if your eyesight is perfect you need GOOD light to work on small stuff.
That's one thing I did learn from previous attempts. That's the one piece of furniture I had my brother bring from storage, a floor lamp with 3 lights that can be aimed wherever I want. It makes all the difference in the world. Otherwise, I wouldn't even try!

I just went to the kitchen and snatched some round toothpicks!

I didn't like the look of the original driptip. So, look what I found! A bronze (brown) Provari, my brown Tiramisu juice, and a brown driptip!

Well I guess it had to happen. The SXmini instead of coming out with a new firmware upgrade is coming out with a new mod. This will have their new chip the SX350 V2. Supposed to use NI200, Ti, Copper, SS, Silver, Gold and Plutonium wire. I am sure they think they will make another killing in the ecig market but I'm all in on the M's. I think this will hurt their fanbase because a lot of people have multiple M's and they work fine on the NI200 and Ti. I hope they lose theirs ... on these.

I'ld like to see how it goes with the plutonium. If you glow in the dark, it'll be easier to find your mod at night.

I agree. What's the point of selling a mod that can take updates if they don't actually do the updates? Maybe, the update is just too big? Maybe they had to make more changes than just do updates to make it all work?

Oh wow ... you need to come to the back porch and meet Uncle Willie. He's a fantastic guitar maker/repairer both acoustic and electric.

Not surprising ... it's all about marketing and the quest for more $'s (or in their case yens) not necessarily a loyal customer base.
