Smoked for almost 10 years, will be 30 in May, and have been analog free for over 2 months ago!

It started with me wanting to quit, got tired of all the side effects and rising cigarette costs so I thought I'd try a cigalike. So I got a Blu for a day or so, and it wasn't really for me but I knew then and there that this is the right route I was taking.

The next day I picked up the eGo starter kit from my work (Work a few convienance stores so I get the wholesale price! :D ) and haven't looked back since! Even been upgrading as I go, got a ton of clearos/juices and now I have a Vision Spinner and Davide tank.

Life is great!

Good for you! So nice, it came together for you. :toast:

howdy,

i suppose i should formally introduce myself here before i subject y'all to more frequent posts. i usually hang out in Reoville, but have been lurking here (with mebbe an occasional fly-by posting) for a while. i was gonna reply to some earlier posts, but figured i should introduce myself first. (my momma brought me up proper...)

i apologize in advance for whatever disruption i may bring to this thread :)

Oh no - no apology - we'll actually look forward to your disruptions - bring it on. ;)

I smoked for 50 years. Am 64 and started when I was 14. Quit smoking Oct 16th after 1 month of both smoking and vaping. I am 100% certain that I will never go back to smoking. I do not have any craving for a cigarette. Can't quite figure that out.

On the other hand, I appear to be consumed by vaping. Always looking at stuff and always buying new stuff. I am hoping that this subsides a bit soon before I go broke!!! Am retiring Sept 1 and need to have everything I need by then.

Hi and welcome ian - wow, can't get more positive than that. So nice to hear from you that vaping has worked out so well for you. Warning though, there's a bunch of enablers here that are more than willing to help you spend you money on more 'stuff'.

Welcome ian91! Congratulations on switching to vaping. I don't know how expensive cigarettes are where you live, but for hubby and I they're over $6 pack and we were going through 3 a day so vaping is definitely cheaper for us - even with hubby wanting a large and varied collection of devices! It's expensive to start out, but no more than we would have been spending on cartons of smokes. Once you get a set up you like it's up to you to explore further and we can certainly help you do that!! Of course we can also help you avoid mistakes too!

Congratulations to you too Crazy! Sounds like you're doing great with vaping. The Spinner is a good choice after the eGo. There are so many interesting devices and toppers out there and somebody here has tried just about everything. They're happy to chime in with a review so we're a good resource to tap at any time. Not to mention that we're a pretty interesting group.

This thread needs to stay on vaping topics, but many of us also meet up in our chat thread where we can talk about anything. Stop on over, sit a spell and enjoy each others company. Despite the name, nobody ever checks birth certs and all are welcome.

WOW, time to expand da porch again. Welcome to all our newer residents!

What's encouraging is that most of ya'll seem to have already found a comfortable vapin' niche.

BTW, be assured that collectively we have all da answers... right or wrong... we got 'em!

So Glad you joined us. I remember you well. You were one of the ones that welcomed me to reoville and helped me sort both my decision to get one (now 2) and my first bumpy spot with the REO when it came. Always room for another friend here. :)

I went ahead and got a bottle of 11 (or 12?) nicotine, and so far that seems to be making me feel better. I think you were correct that the 6% was too low. And the lady at the store said to bring in my other flavours and she'll add some to them to bring them up to 11% if I want. It makes one helluva difference in throat hit, though, lol. Damn near choked when I first puffed it, lol.

I have a battery question, please - I have the two Vision Spinners... and now I keep reading that these are dangerous which is worrying me. I usually charge one while I'm asleep and the other whilst I'm at work. Either way I'm not babysitting them, lol. And if they can catch fire while charging, how safe are they to use for vaping?

As long as you have actual Vision brand and not a knock-off and have a good charger, it should be ok. But, I personally never leave anything charging when I leave the house.

I do sometimes charge while I'm sleeping because I am only a few feet away and I'm a light sleeper. But, I prefer not to even do that.

If you must leave them unattended while charging, put them in a metal container just in case. Also, while you are at home, periodically walk by and touch your batteries while charging to make sure they're not getting warm.

It's never good to charge overnight, been reading myself about explosions happening and even one right at work. They're not dangerous, you just don't want them to charge without supervision. Yes they have charge protection, but anything can happen and it can fail.

I used to do it but since stopped. All batteries like this carry the risk.

Now THAT's CS!!!

Conventional cautious thinking is to only charge while you're present or use a charging bag.

In my case, I just plug 'em in and let 'em do their thing and I go do mine. I've yet to have ANY issues with my eGos/Twisters/Spinners. I have had several ol' eGos just go to 'sleep forever'. But nothing dramatic...

I have a question about bottom-coil clearomizers.

I know that in top-coil clearos the juice tends to get darker and darker as you use them. Does that happen in bottom-coil clearos too?

I got a Davide tank which is a bottom coil and juices seem to stay the same appearance/taste wise. Could be different depending on type.

So the risk is only while charging? They don't blow their tops whilst vaping (hopefully, lol)?

Correct, I've seen nothing about anything while vaping. You're safe lol, I love my spinner. :)

I've read it recommended that you fire a battery away from your face the first one or two times that you use it after charging. It's also recommended that you not use it for an hour after taking it off the charger. Apparently that's when it's most likely to be a danger.

I've only heard of 1 or 2 instances where a device blew up on someone while they were vaping. You notice when they're reporting the incident they don't tell you what kind of PV was being used or give any information besides the injury. Later on I've read it was because they were doing something stupid with stacking batteries or otherwise doing something they weren't supposed to be doing. I've never had any problems with any of our batteries while vaping or charging. I've seen a few stories about meltdowns while charging, but it seems to be incredibly rare and never heard an explanation. I guess ANY rechargeable battery could potentially blow up.

We have our chargers on the counter in the kitchen and when we notice that the green light is on we unplug them. We try to remember to unplug them if we're going out or going to bed, but sometimes we forget. Never had a problem but I'm not really worried about them.

Really? I never heard that. And all this time we just pop in a new battery and vape away! Of course we don't buy any cheap, discount or knock-off batteries. I don't think that's a place to pinch pennies.

Agreed. Whether the replaceable batteries or the eGo-style batteries. No cheap knock-offs, period. And, the same goes for chargers!

I have a pair of large ceramic ashtrays that have been "re-purposed" into a charging station. Stacked up, I have about 4" of ceramic between my on-charge batteries and the counter, so I feel pretty well covered for fire safety.

Yes, any battery can fail, chargers can fail, and when they're in use is when they'll do that - if ever. (I've seen car batteries fail, but nobody talks about banning cars...)

Been charging Spinners for well over a year, and no issues. 18650s (Pannys and Samsungs and Efest) for not as long, and no issues.

Just let them cool down a bit after charging. Heat from charging is normal, but you want to let them cool back to room temp before use.

The juice darkens as some of the residue from heating comes off the wick and coil, and settles / mixes to the bottom. I think with bottom coils it must also happen, but since it's still surrounding the coil it gets consumed. It just doesn't climb back up the wicks in a top coil?

Thank you all.... I like the spinners a lot as some of the differnet liquids I like to vape at different volts. So far the big one lasts me a good day and a half to two days, and the little spinner I use for when I'm charging the big one. I have no idea what type of charger I have... I will have to look at it now, lol.

Re the liquid getting darker... I am new to this and still chain-vaping, so my liquid never lasts long enough to get darker I don't think, lol!!

I've been using BDC Davide's a lot the last few weeks & haven't noticed juice turning darker.
