I went ahead and got a bottle of 11 (or 12?) nicotine, and so far that seems to be making me feel better. I think you were correct that the 6% was too low. And the lady at the store said to bring in my other flavours and she'll add some to them to bring them up to 11% if I want. It makes one helluva difference in throat hit, though, lol. Damn near choked when I first puffed it, lol.

I have a battery question, please - I have the two Vision Spinners... and now I keep reading that these are dangerous which is worrying me. I usually charge one while I'm asleep and the other whilst I'm at work. Either way I'm not babysitting them, lol. And if they can catch fire while charging, how safe are they to use for vaping?
Vape both. Try the 6 mg in the evenings, so you don't have as much stimulant when you sleep.
I charge my batteries in a Pyrex dish. I let the charge overnight. The spinners and twists will turn themselves off when fully charged if they are good ones... If not they still should. Ot overcharge.

It's never good to charge overnight, been reading myself about explosions happening and even one right at work. They're not dangerous, you just don't want them to charge without supervision. Yes they have charge protection, but anything can happen and it can fail.

I used to do it but since stopped. All batteries like this carry the risk.
all batteries carry risks. So do all bathtubs! Erring on the side of caution is never a bad idea. If it makes you feel better, then do that. :)

So the risk is only while charging? They don't blow their tops whilst vaping (hopefully, lol)?

I've read it recommended that you fire a battery away from your face the first one or two times that you use it after charging. It's also recommended that you not use it for an hour after taking it off the charger. Apparently that's when it's most likely to be a danger.
let them cool down to room temp after charging and there should be no issues. Never leave an ecig, cell phone or anything with a battery in the car.

I've only heard of 1 or 2 instances where a device blew up on someone while they were vaping. You notice when they're reporting the incident they don't tell you what kind of PV was being used or give any information besides the injury. Later on I've read it was because they were doing something stupid with stacking batteries or otherwise doing something they weren't supposed to be doing. I've never had any problems with any of our batteries while vaping or charging. I've seen a few stories about meltdowns while charging, but it seems to be incredibly rare and never heard an explanation. I guess ANY rechargeable battery could potentially blow up.

We have our chargers on the counter in the kitchen and when we notice that the green light is on we unplug them. We try to remember to unplug them if we're going out or going to bed, but sometimes we forget. Never had a problem but I'm not really worried about them.
there have been a couple that melted down while in use... When they were modified all out of proportion by the person. Lesson there is... Don't mess with it unless you understand what you are doing. :D

I have a question about bottom-coil clearomizers.
I know that in top-coil clearos the juice tends to get darker and darker as you use them. Does that happen in bottom-coil clearos too?

I do notice that they become "thicker" as they approach the bottom.
I think it's evaporation from the heat, ...or the PG (thinner) gets sucked up first, leaving the thicker VG.
In any case, I have a bottle of base (pg/vg with nicotine) and I just add a few drops to it.
It freshens it up just like new, and it's good to finish off from then on.
It seems to happen that way for me, no matter what kind of tank I'm using.
But ... I have several tanks going all the time, so I'm not refilling the same one every day either ...

Welcome to all the new faces.
New blood and opinions are always welcome, and make for a fun variety of conversation.
Hop on the porch, .. it's party time 24/7 around here.

I am thinking about wick replacement (so I don't have to keep buying new coils). A like the idea of sterile cotton gauze (will be easy to get from the local pharmacy once my granddaughter wakes up and we can pop up there). Only thing is so many threads say to boil cotton, but no one says why. If it's already sterile, why would I need to boil it?

The last time we went to the flea market there was one ecig vendor. Yesterday there were three and we didn't even walk the entire market, so that was very encouraging.

I was really happy to find that one of the vendors has a shop in my lil city and he is very savvy to what's going on in the vaping world. We talked about RBAs, recoiling and DIY and he said something about conducting some classes on rebuilding.....would be great for me as I'm a hands on type of learner, so maybe RBAs will be in my future afterall.
I know I'm late in the game with RBAs and still not sure I want to get into them, but now at least I have a real chance to see if I can or want to dabble in them.

He's also a member here at ECF! The other two vendors are not members here and that surprises me. ECF is where I learned and continue to learn all things vaping.

This is such good news to me as I've only come across a handful of vapors in our city in the nearly 5 years I've been vaping, and now maybe I'll meet more and we can have a real vape meet in our lil city.

I notice that my bottom coils darken the juice before too long. Since I DIY it's not a problem, I just dump out the last few drops when it gets pretty dark. I vape fruit juices and I think the sweetness might cause darkening earlier than others, but who knows. A clean new coil won't do it as quickly because the coil is clean.

When I've used sterile cotton roll I didn't boil it. Can't imagine why boil it, yet alone working with a dried clump of cotton. That would be awkward.

I think the boiling cotton is for yarn because that cotton is treated. If you get the sterile cotton I don't think you'd have to boil it, but somebody else who has dealt with the use of cotton might have more info.

It might be a good idea to learn anyway, just in case you want or have to rebuild. At least then you'd know what other people are talking about. And it might be fun to learn something along with other vapers!

I know I'm late in the game with RBAs and still not sure I want to get into them, but now at least I have a real chance to see if I can or want to dabble in them.

You're not late in the game of RBA's. It happens when it happens for you - or not.

Yes... that makes sense. That little vape store that opened up next to my house is going to start having "how to" classes re replacing wicks and stuff. I think I will take a couple of the classes. I really love that place, lol. They have a vape bar so you can try out flavours, and last time I was there they gave me a glass of wine and we just hung out at the vape bar. I could see that becoming the social alternative to the local pub, lol. They had coffee, too...

What a great idea! A nice wine while you're tasting juices - good marketing strategy! Ha ha!
Back in May when I was in Denver I went to several stores mattress shopping with my daughter. The last shop was Urban Mattress. In the middle of us deciding on the one she picked out the owner offered us a glass of beer! It was from a micro brewery down the block. What a nice surprise.

oh yay - look- my signature has decided to show up!!!!And I've saved 75 bucks (or so it says, lol...) - I can go buy more flavours now!!! lol

Oh no, I'm not seeing it. :(

I use cotton yarn, and don't bother with boiling it. The reason to boil that is to remove any traces of sizing and/or any other chemicals from the manufacture. But with about 1/4 inch of the stuff for the wick or flavor wick, it doesn't concern me enough to take the long process of boil, rinse, boil, rinse, dry...

That's on bottom coils, of course. If using it in a top coil, with considerably more material, it might make a difference in flavor.

I also find that removing the flavor wicks (usually fit for the trash and replaced when done) and dry burning restores the col and wick to near new, and can be done several times before needing to recoil.

No kidding! Maybe we could meet up at a vape shop sometime. I've PM'd here a few times with another Columbus vaper, vrodder, and he told me about vaporcraft just after they opened... but I haven't had a chance to go there yet. I live about 45 min. east of Columbus. The folks at tasteful vapes are nice, and helpful. I bought a Protank 2 and some juice from them.

That would be super, maybe I could coax rabernet to join us!

So, when you dry burn your cotton wicks they don't burn up? Or do you remove them prior to heating the coil to clean?

I'm not convinced about boiling cotton. I've tried it both ways...boiled and not boiled. Either way I'm getting an unwanted taste for about the first 10 - 12 hits, but sometime it's perfect right from the beginning (no off taste). I've tried different thicknesses of the cotton when making the wick, but still the on again off again taste issue, with and without the flavor wick BTW.

I'm using ProTanks with Micro coils and when and if there is the off taste issue...it's better flavor than any other set up I've tried and there is a long long list of different setups I've used (too many to mention :) ).

For off the shelf items the Davide BDC is the go to for a lot of folks...IMHO they fall way short of the PT with micro coils and a cotton wick. YMMV

I'm liking 1.5 ohm micro coils. Using an 18 Ga blunted syringe needle and 9 wraps of 30 ga Kanthal A-1 it varies from 1.4 to 1.7. Not sure why the wide variation, maybe the thickness of the wire varies or some are not wrapped as tight as others, but they work very well...again IMO and YMMV.

I would sure like to know why I'm getting the off taste for the first few hits, if anyone (Mike, IFFY or anyone else) knows PLEASE don't be shy. :D

You'll only dry burn a cotton wick once. Then it's back to cleaning and replacing, as the cotton goes POOF! :)

Which is why, being the lazy old fa... fellow I am, I use silica for the main wick.

I have a few PT1, PT2, and Davides. My first Davide used the kanger type coil, the second came with the BDC. While it was ok, I didn't find it to be significantly better with my flavors and style. But it was an easy "retro-fit" for it to take T3S coils. So if you want to give one of 'em a try, just know that you can pop out the little white adapter from the Davide and pop in a T3S or PT coil. And micro-coil to your vaping nirvana.

WillieG - you're torching the kanthal, yes? If not, that could be one source of your off taste to start. Or maybe just needs a little longer to soak up the juice before first draw? But as long as it's not really obnoxious and goes away fast, still a small price to pay for bliss!
