I know that if I do not let my cotton wicks soak for a while I will get an off taste. I have gotten to where I let them soak over night (only change them before I go to bed) - If I need it during the day I let them soak for at least 30 minutes to an hour before I use them. Also do you do some pre-draws on them before you press the button - that may help...

According to the USPS tracking, my order from Vapor Chef is due tomorrow. Now I understand what "stalking the mailman" means, lol.

What is a "flavor wick", please? Is there one in my Kanger Ts3 and Minipro coils? Thank you!

The flavor wicks are under the post. Now, THAT seems clear as mud :)

Once you take the base and coil off the tube, you'll see a smaller tube going up. I call that the air tube, since we have to call it something... With the whole thing still attached to the base, so you have something to hold onto, wiggle the air tube back and forth to remove it. Under it you'll see the flavor wicks - they're loose strands of wick laid on top of the coil, which also has wick through it.

You have to take off the air tube and remove the flavor wicks to see the coil for dry burning, and the flavor wicks are generally not worth putting back in. Kanger heads (PT, T3, mini - generally come with two 1 mm strands of flavor wick. Some of the original ARO heads came with three. I have good results with one full strand of yarn, but juice thickness will affect what works best for you. Most of my flavors are 80/20 PG/VG, btw.

I'm not convinced about boiling cotton. I've tried it both ways...boiled and not boiled. Either way I'm getting an unwanted taste for about the first 10 - 12 hits, but sometime it's perfect right from the beginning (no off taste). I've tried different thicknesses of the cotton when making the wick, but still the on again off again taste issue, with and without the flavor wick BTW.

I would sure like to know why I'm getting the off taste for the first few hits, if anyone (Mike, IFFY or anyone else) knows PLEASE don't be shy. :D

I'd guess like others mentioned - probably has to do with the juice saturation in the wick. Maybe the 'compression' of your wicks is just a bit different for some and it takes longer/- few more draws to get the wick fully saturated.

Look out Iffy has moved from Snoopy mode to Psychedelic Flamingo mode. ;) This should be fun!

Rut roh, ya saw my response to your casino post...

ETA: In my experiences, wick starvation is da most common negative vaping issue, regardless of da device. Gunked up coils are my second most suspicious culprit.

I am thinking about wick replacement (so I don't have to keep buying new coils). A like the idea of sterile cotton gauze (will be easy to get from the local pharmacy once my granddaughter wakes up and we can pop up there). Only thing is so many threads say to boil cotton, but no one says why. If it's already sterile, why would I need to boil it?

Just my thoughts on cotton for wicks.
Sterile cotton is just cotton that has been sterilized to kill bacteria. It can be sterilized by heat, gas, etc. I retired from the Pharmaceutical industry and we made sterile products that were meant to be injected, used in eyes, ears, etc. The drug product, the bottles, tubes, caps, etc were all sterilized. The sterilization process does not remove any chemicals or toxic items.
Any cotton used for wicks should be 100% natural cotton with NO additional things added.
I like to use organic cotton balls from CVS as I feel they are just cleaner because of the organic farming.
I do use some of the Peaches and Cream yarn and some of the rolled sterile cotton, but I am not sure if they are organically raised and produced.
I boil all of the above types of cotton in DISTILLED water for twenty minutes, rinse in distilled water and boil for another twenty minutes in distilled water. I then place the cotton on stainless steel mesh which I place over the top of an empty pot and let it dry for a couple of days until fully dry throughout.
I do not use tap water as I think it may leave the chemicals from treating the water and minerals from the water in the cotton in high amounts. I find the distilled water boil gives me a cleaner taste than tap water boil.
I bag the cotton in a ziplock bag to keep it clean. I always wash my hands before touching my cotton as the oils from your skin can be wicked into the clean cotton and effect taste.

I not sure if this has anything to do with it, but ...it's the conclusion I've come too.

I use Protanks and wrap my own coils, using cotton too.
Sometimes (not most) when I first taste a new juice, I make a note on the recipe that it has a "off" taste.
Then later on, ...it's fine .. no funny taste, and I have to change the notes.

I think the juice changes after the heat has hit it a few times.
All my juices are at least 4 weeks old, and it has happened to me more than once.
It's not the cotton wicks, because it happens on used ones or new ones, but not on "every" juice
I haven't pinned it down to type or flavor or company yet to see if it falls in a certain category, because it goes away !
I really think that little bit of heat, after firing it a few time is what does it.
I'm as confused as you are ... so just wanted to let you know ...your not "special" :p

Now, I'll wait and see what everyone else has to say :pop:

I was out and about late morning and early afternoon, and my twists were acting wierd-- I thought I might end up having to go vapeless for a while. And one of my chargers has threads going bad. So that time is coming. I am afraid that all three might fail at about the same time.
The VAMO V5 is interesting, but it is so new. Based on experience with the previous versions, how tough do you think it will be?

The vamo is rather famous for delicate threads on the connector. I permanently keep a 510/ego adapter on my to protect those threads.....If you go with Vamo get the Stainless Steel one.

Now I am looking again at the VAMO, since they rarely have electronic problems. However, I would have problems with a thread protector-- half of my clearos are 510, half are eGo. Doesn't that mean I would be removing and replacing the thread protector? That defeats the purpose of a thread protector. I am not going to ask that question in the Vamo area-- they are all cartotank snobs.

And what does a VAMO look like with a DV BCC Clearomizer or a DV CE5 Clearomizer - Rebuildable or a AnyVape Davide Mini Glassomizeron it? I mean, that cute little face has to have a nice hat.

Good night!! Hugs to all.

nope I have an ego/510 adapter on mine permanently so I always have access to both threadings without unscrewing the adapter

Sugar and cream/peaches and cream yarn as wicking I do get a cottony taste even after multiple boils. For me it never quite goes away. This is why I went over to rolled cotton.

With the rolled cotton I do not get any odd tastes unless I forgot to anneal the wire. That is boiled or not.

The day was not a complete waste.......I learned a new word. heehee (anneal) Thanks.

OK, thanks.

Thanks Dave. So I can bring my iClear 30 out of retirement for my bestest favoritest, and just not look cool for the others.

I broke down and went for the best price. Now let's see if my three twists will hold enough charge for a full day's vaping by the time it arrives. Already ordered batteries, will make an order for a charger (and other stuff) when it is almost here.
