That reminded me of a story my son told me after visiting a college friend in rural West Virginia. There was a screen door from the kitchen to the back porch but it had no screens. When he asked his friend about it, the answer was - if grandpop see a squirrel when he's sitting at the table in the morning, he likes to shoot 'em. He kept forgetting to open the door and we got tired of replacing the screens so now, just leave them off.

I can just feature that too! We don't dare leave a screen off here though, we'd end up with the grand-girls mini horses in the house. Durn things just go wherever they want already. Can't keep them at the pens in town where the horses Dave's family is using are cuz you can't keep them in the pens!

First, I'm throwing a big shout out to Iffy, my Main Man .. high five and a big thanks for the carto load ..

It's been a while since we talked about some musical history .. I'm in the mood today .. for the new or newer folks that have joined our on-line family here on the thread .. don't be alarmed .. There is nothing wrong with your computer ..

One of my favorite Bands, Journey .. many, many people associate Steve Perry and his great voice with Journey, and rightfully so .. little known though, is the fact that Perry was hired by the band and was not the first, or even the second frontman ..

Neal Schon, guitarist and Journey's only constant member, was in Santana at the age of 15 and was considered a prodigy .. Steve Perry was let go from the band because of his fear of surgery needed for a hip replacement and his continual postponing of the surgery ..

And, as proof of the 6 degrees of separation, Randy Jackson played bass and sang with Journey from 1985–1987 .. yes, that Randy Jackson of American Idol .. (who, by the way, is quite an accomplished bass man) ..

After grinding their way through various other vocalists and frontmen, in 2007, Journey hired Filipino singer Arnel Pineda after Neal Schon saw him on YouTube singing covers of Journey songs. And if you have ever heard Pineda sing, he is a dead on ringer for Steve Perry ..

And the rest, as they say, is Rock and Roll History ..

That was a sweet Journey ! :)

She was the first live rock show I attended. It was quite an experience at an intimate club called the Electric Factory in Philly. Let's just say the place was filled with energy and a haze of a certain kind of vape. And speaking of haze, my next concert a week or so later was Jimi Hendrix.

Oh my - now that was a 'ride'. A couple weeks ago a friends son took me for a ride in a classic Mustang he just bought. OMG, I totally forgot the feel of being pushed into to the back of the seat when he put his foot into it. 400+ hp cars sure were fun. My son says I was lucky to come of age during the heyday of the muscle cars. He says the engineering and all that of todays top cars is amazing, but the modern cars just don't compare to brut horsepower and style differences between cars of the 60's and 70's.

I always tell myself if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself... When I think about the music, the cars... all of it, I know I am lying to myself! What a life!

Sorry to .... in on this conversation but I am over 55 and live in the Nashville area and saw the word Nasville. I admit I have been lurking. When you get to Nashville there is a vape shop called Nashville Vapors and from what I see on the site, they supposedly are selling some juice made by the "Professor." I am thinking maybe a local mixer (DIYer). Check them out on Google, I have not been there. There's another shop in Cool Springs called Saffire Vapors. I have been there. Nice little place.

Like I said, sorry to .... in on the conversation.

If you're in Nashville, you should check out the local vapers group -- great folks. Nashville has so many vendors and B&Ms, it makes me jealous. Once you join the group, you can see a full listing of shops in the area (in the files section) Anyway, here's your link:

With me, sometimes it does not take much prompting .. so be careful what you wish for because it may come true .. :)

Janis, oh Janis .. you left us way to quickly .. Born in 1943 in Port Arthur, TX, like many of the great Blues singers, she sang in her church choir .. and like many artists, absolutely hated her home town and could not wait to get out .. during the 1950's, as many teens do, she decided to rebel and dressed differently, causing early rumors about sexual promiscuity .. keep in mind the fact that she grew up in the '50's .. it's sometimes hard to disassociate our image of an artist by placing them outside of the context of when we best remember them ..

By the time she graduated High School, her persona of a tough talking, hard drinking, outrageous girl had already been formed ..

In college, she frequented what we Oldsters used to call the "hootenanny" .. which was essentially an open mic night where anyone could perform .. who remembers the "hootenanny" .. ??

During her second trip to Cali in order to attempt a musical career, she in addition to booze developed a bad drug habit and again returned to Port Arthur to try and get straight .. in the mid 1960's, she returned to San Fran for the third time and landed her gig with Big Brother and the Holding Company .. and after being signed by Clive Davis at Columbia, "Cheap Thrills" swept across the Land .. which, incidentally, had a cover designed by R. Crumb ..

Her life was cut short in October of 1970, a victim of her own inner demons she could not seem to conquer .. the late '60's and early '70's was a bad time for Rock .. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, the Altamont Concert .. all signaling the end of an era ..

I choose to remember Janis like this :

Well I sure do have to agree with the what a life! Feeling very nostalgic and fortunate today as I celebrate 30 years of marriage to my wonderful husband. So blessed and lucky to find such a romantic, loving and kind man - not only a wonderful husband, but he adopted my 3 sons from my first (disastrous) marriage and has been their "real" dad in everyway. Never changed on bit when we had our own son and then our baby girl

Loved the Journey tunes from yesterday and while Janis was never one of my favorites - I have learned to appreciate her music much more now than when I was young. So thanks for adding to my memories.

Funny - I love Elvis, and of course Neil Diamond, all the old 50's and 60's music - yet now find I listen to so much more variety. Find myself enjoying some (not all) from Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, Concrete blonde, Guns N' Roses, Heart, Streetheart, Toronto, U2, and even a little Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry. I now appreciate lots of county - love Alan Jackson, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood - ok better stop now cause the list just goes on and on  guess I should just say I love music.

So I even had to listen to a little Air Supply today - since we danced to "Two Less Lonely People in the World" as our first dance as newlyweds. Funny - we had a big party with a DJ five years ago for our 25th the DJ had a little trouble finding it to play for us that night  Oh and Air Supply was the first concert we ever attended together - did I say he was a romantic - but of course that was followed by Doug and the Slugs

Anyway - been busy with RL and getting ready for our trip to Disneyland on Sunday with the kids and grandkids. So while today is a day of remembering and nostalgia we are all getting pretty excited for the grandkids first trip to Disney :)
