Wow I'm impressed as heck right now. I sacrificed one of my favorite nub Connecticut cigars for extraction by shedding, topping with 30ml of PG and nuking. I did let it sit in my cabinet for a week and just syringed it today.

I added 10 drops to 5ml of 70/30 12mg and was blown away, it tastes spot on. I should be happily vaping away for quite some time with this amount of extract.

I got a problem. my coil keep on gunk. I used to filter my extract tobacco with coffee filer. do i need another filer so I can vape smoothly?
btw im using RSST tank 3 wrap of 28awg kanthal and 400 unoxidized mesh. please advise guys!

Sounds like the tobacco you are using for extract, real pipe tobacco extracts gunk up within about 12 hours but morebrown cigar tobaccos gunk up less so

Yeah, my wicks do gunk up running extracts, but they do the same running other tobacco-based juices also (like Boba's Bounty for instance). I run ceramic wicks and Ribbon Kanthal wire in all my RBAs though (either FC2000 or one I make from Top Fin bubble-stones). After each tankful, I just rinse them off with water & dry-burn them @ about 14 Watts until all the gunk burns off.. just takes a few minutes & they vape perfectly again.

The hard ceramics are great - I like them far better than the Stainless Steel wick - better flavor, no hot-spots, & they last forever if you don't break them (they can be a bit fragile if not handled properly)... I've been running a couple of wick/coil assemblies for over three months & they still work perfectly...probably better than new.

Here's one of the three-month old examples ...same coil & wick used for many many tankfuls and just dry-burned to clean. While it's pretty dark, it works as well as the day I wrapped it.

Only way to go IMHO...

Just wanted to chime in here about my results.

But first, I extend great gratitude to ya xMackx :) ! I have made an all PG on my first, and a 25/75 PG/VG (secondly) concentrate with your methods , happily and successfully !

I ended up making about 14ml each of my two times trying with pure Havana leaf. I needed to adjust the amount of each in the micro-zapper to about 12 seconds though.

The first was, in retrospect, the best though as I didn't scorch the juice. The second time cooked it a bit and made the flavor not bad, just different. 2nd batch was also darker and created a phenomenon new to me in almost a year of vaping, just exactly what y'all are talking about:

Coil gunking.

I never though it possible in a rebuildable, but it happened :D Not sure if it was the High VG or what.

So after completely swearing off silica wick to cotton and bamboo, I broke out the silica I almost threw away. I am doing a lot of dry de-gunk coil burning, so it was necessary to keep from rebuilding every few hours. It's worth it tho :)

If I can find a place with reasonably priced ceramics and a "ceramics for dummies" course, I might try them. I haven't even messed with mesh yet. I tried cotton in my DID to no avail.

But still, I am enamored with this process of NETs!!!!!!!!!!

It's so very....pure. The taste of what I made is the essence of luxury for lack of a better word.

Started out with a washable coffee filter strainer prior to the syringe method.

BTW, though,
The syringe filtering method is BRILLIANT.

I used glass syringes allowing the weight and gravity of the solid plunger to slow filter the concentrate into a receptacle. Then changed out the cotton and repeated several times.

Also added 1% Tobacco Absolute and it brought out flavor pretty nice.

Coffee and NET vapes. The best ever!!

Everything you need to know about DIY ceramic wicks, or where to buy reasonably priced examples:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/362182-next-big-thing-porous-ceramic-wicks.html

Its a pretty long thread, but if you read the first few pages & skip toward the end, you should have all the info you need to get going. The processes have evolved over the time the thread has been running, so grab a cup of coffee & fill up a tank of juice & have a good read.

There are a couple of great videos embedded in the thread that walk you through the methods to make the wicks & wrap the coils to get the best results. It's really not all that difficult to do, just takes a little practice, and other than the fragility factor of the ceramic while you are setting it up, it's easier than working with Stainless wicks...and the results are orders-of-magnitude better.

Once you taste the difference between a broken-in ceramic wick & any other material, you will never go back. Far cleaner/better flavor, and maintenance & rebuilding are far reduced, or even eliminated. Unless you break it, a wick/coil assy will last for months of heavy use with just an occasional dry-burn.

Good luck..

Has anyone tried this type of syringe filter? Syringe Filters PTFE 25mm 0.45um 10pack: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Coffee filters only filter 10-20 microns. Do you think these syringe filters at 0.45 microns would filter out too much and reduce the flavor of the NET?

My latest extraction was this tobacco Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake (by the ounce) and it's pretty darn good after only a day, I've been vaping it all day. It has a raisin/fig (dark fruit), slightly spicy flavor and I can taste some deeper, darker flavors wanting to come out, it should be excellent in a couple/few weeks. I can see this juice going good with barbeque food and beer.

First batch of extract was made with cigarette tobacco and the wife said it made the place smell like pee so I flushed it. Second batch was all cigar. OpusX and Alec Bradley. Much better but I think it will need to sit and steep. It did indeed taste like a cigar and to my surprise, it will need a sweet flavor added to it.
Having not smoked at all in 6 weeks, I forgot how the smoke tastes and how my taste has changed. Maybe I'll extract a snus next.

I'm extracting some coffee and a Drew Estate Java cigar. I don't extract the tips of Drew Estate (Acid) cigars because they're sweetened, most likely with sugar (coil clogger)... I'm still vaping the H&H Ann. Cake, it's good stuff straight up with nothing mixed in it. A little Vanilla Black Cav would probably taste good in it.

I just started working on a Rocky Patel Dominican #2. Just about the darkest extract I've seen so far. I make up several 10 ml bottles so I can test the extract at varying strengths and also to add other extracts and flavor concentrates. I use an RDA for tasting all my extracts because they are easy to burn off.

A.J. Peretti had a tobacco blend called "Ebony" that was a vanilla flavored Latakia. At least they had it 15 years ago when I smoked a pipe. What I wouldn't give to extract that tobacco. A superb tobacco that smelled like burnt rubber but tasted like heaven. Peretti has been around forever and they may still have it. It was a house blend. I should get off my .... and get over there. Even if they don't have the Ebony it will still be worth the trip just to enjoy the environment and aromas.

They still make an "Ebony" pipe tobacco in-house...I don't know if its still the same blend, but here's the info on it:

Good to know. Thanks. I think I'll try and stop by there this week. Maybe I should leave my credit cards at home and pay cash. No telling what I'd get up to in that place.

The D.E. Java cigar and coffee both taste very good fresh (only a day steeping). The coffee extract is the best coffee vape I've tasted, mixed with a little EM it tastes exactly like a black cup of joe from the beans I used and even has a little of the dry tobacco-like vape.

The coffe is going to be a great mixer to add some depth to tobaccos.
