On another note... I just rebuilt the coil in the Stumpy this morning. 8 wraps, 26ga Ti, 2.9mm ID. Ohming out at 0.5Ω. Right now I've got the SX350J board set at 35 Joules and 300°F; rayon wicks are thinned out super thin and with hardly anything on the deck and it is wicking perfectly. (I tried the 'pad' of rayon on the deck and it keeps the atty from draining properly.) Flavor is off the charts! The combo of the Stumpy and rayon is a match made in Heaven!

Amen bro!! Looks sick. I love stumpys. Stumpy's are the best BF atty I've ever used! They're just so perfect for our application and YES all four of my stumpolas are wicked with RAYON

Never using cotton again!! I STILL haven't rewick ed the first atty I slapped rayon in and my waffle juice tastes better each day!!

Excellent.

Cool, so maybe on a straight dripper you could use a reservoir, but gets in the way on a squonker.

Yep. I thought it seemed like an awesome idea when you mentioned it the other day. Surely good enough of an idea for me to give it a try. Unfortunately it just seems that there is a disconnect between theory and reality...

It is an awesome atty, fo sho! I just picked up another el cheapo atty from fasttech that I want to modify for BF. The Vertex Jr. It is extremely tiny, and has potential to leak like a sieve... but I think the flavor will be fantastic. I should probably just throw a build in it and drip for a day or so before I go through the trouble of modding it...

She's a beauty! Posted up out in its natural surroundings. Lol

Week old rayon, its just getting started. It's the wick that keeps on giving. :vapor:

Waffle juice? Kinda sounds good! But I'm a tobacco vaper, never got on with any sweets, bakery, or fruits. The closest I've got is probably hangsen highway. A 555 type.

I couldn't have said that any better. Rayon is the wick nirvana and does get better with age, after 3 weeks of 10+ml a day tearing apart the wicking to see its still nice and clean.
The only other 2 flavors I like other than tobaccos are cola and grape and I got those 2 non-tobacs fine tuned to be spectacular. There is a lot of flavors I didn't like while vaping commercial juices so I wont spend the money on those concentrates not to like them again.

What juice? I love waffle flavors.
DiY

ETA now that I'm not on my phone:

1.3% Inawera Waffle
.5% Inawera Coconut
1% Flavourart Vienna Cream
1.5% Flavourart Caramel
(I may drop the Waffle a hair next time tho it is super strong)

I normally do tobaccos myself, but this waffle, or Sloffle as I call it, is some good vapes :vapor:

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread. The tips and tricks finally paid off, the planets aligned and I wicked the rayon correctly. I'm using a velocity clone with dual 26ga twisted coils @ .27 ohms. Wow, this is finally better than the Sally's cotton I was clinging to.

Ps... Sloth I loved the cc video you posted. That video has me saving my pennies.

Great to hear!

Watch that coil leg on the left back side of that photo. It looks a little loose in the pic. These thing always show up in pics, where your zoomed in you see better than naked eye.

If you notice an issue. You may want to carefully bend that leg down a tad if you get a partial dry coil hit. You'll have to support the bottom of that wrap and bend the top down a tad. You may hurt the coil symmetry if your not careful, so it is best to do that with the mandrel in the coil when you mount it... That side will likely start to show darker color if it's causing a problem. If no problem don't worry.

Hopefully this build will last you much longer than cotton.

You're right, I didn't even notice it. If it acts up (discoloration right?) I'll replace it. That was kind of a sloppy coil now that I look at it lol.

OK, I've finally made it through this monstrous thread (whew!) and, yet, I still have a question:

I've been a plug-n-play vaper, using pre-made coils, this whole time. I'm getting tired of buying coils and, now that my husband has been laid off, I am slowly transitioning to rebuildables to save money. I have the Subtank Mini RBA and the Nautilus & Atlantis RBAs. As these have raised juice holes, how do you correctly wick these with rayon? I have OC pads, but I'm a lazy vaper and I'd rather use rayon, if I don't have to rewick so often.

Also, I've got a Lemo 2 and I just can't get the wicking right. Anyone care to post a picture of how you wick yours?

Thanks!

Welcome to da klub, Debbie!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but you will definitely save money with rebuildables. It'll be a little bit of a learning curve, but well worth it in the end. As far as help with those particular RBAs, I have no experience with those models, but I'm sure that someone will be around soon to point you in the right direction. You'll definitely be in good hands here! :)

Welcome!

Good idea. Its the wick of choice for the lazy vaper... I hope you didn't mean the whole pt1 thread! I tried to break it all down at the beginning of this pt2. If you read all that, you know the complete history.

On the subtanks and lemo, just get the wick snug in the coil, you may need to hold it with your fingers if using thin wire, you'll hear or feel a squeak, then pull a coil width of the wick through and you should be tight enough. Just stretch the Rayon to thin it down if it's too dense to get through.

Then take your tails and just cut them at a about a 45° angle / ** \ from the base up toward the coil, but not directly up next to it. This will effectively remove/ thin 50% of the tails. You can go more but that's a good start.

Yep happens every time.. I'm in the habit of taking a zoomed pic and reviewing it before I'm done, or to have the pic as a learning tool. It helps in the beginning because when you get a good one you can go back and see what you did.

Yeah you'll notice discoloration of the juice on that side because the loose coil is heating up more than it should. A partial or slight burned hit is a sign too.

Oh I should mention that the higher you go in power the more something like this will show up obviously. If your power isn't too high you may not even have an issue with it at all. Just run it till you have some type of issue then inspect your work and interpret the signs in the wick. The main thing being density is still in full contact with the coil. Pushing down on the wick should expose a gap at the edge.

Now there is a wide range of density it can work at depending on power levels. The better it is the longer it will last you and the better it will work. But compared to cotton, a mediocre wicking of rayon can still be better.

Haha, no the Part 2. I saw Part 1's 751 post count and said, 'Oh, Hell, no!" LOL It seemed like you summed up that thread well in the 1st post here.

On the subtanks and lemo, just get the wick snug in the coil, you may need to hold it with your fingers if using thin wire, you'll hear or feel a squeak, then pull a coil width of the wick through and you should be tight enough. So, there's no stuffing of the rba head (especially in the case of the Atlantis-like RBA heads), as one would do with cotton to reduce flooding? I can grasp the concept of thin tails touching the built deck of an RBA & RTA tank (i.e., Lemo), but these rebuildable coil heads had me wondering how to wick it with rayon without flooding out the heads. Is that really enough material to keep the head from drowning in juice?

Yo Jeremy, you were so right about Rayon I decided to give your ADV a go. Mixed up some Hangsen Arabic @ 3%. Will report back after some steep.

WARNING: Juice flavors are subjective... rayon is NOT!

:D I love me some baccy vapes tho, already had a bottle of Arabic just hadn't gotten around to sampling it yet. All I've tried Hangsen is Desert Ship and I like it fairly well.
