A question was posted regarding why rayon lasts longer than cotton..

Here was my quick reply this morning.. Feel free to add to it..

"
The opening 6 posts of part two i believe get into this. Some quick points...

#1 you can bring it to dry hit a hundred times and the rayon doesnt burn. Only the coil overheats when juice runs out or its over powered.

#2 it releases juice to the coil instantly, it doesnt hold onto juice like cotton... Cotton acts as a sponge absorbing and holding juice. With rayon the liquid travels more on the outside of the fiber in channels. Juice is not held back from the coil like with cotton.

Gunk is caused by an overheating coil. Cotton can allow the coil to overheat within every draw. Gunking in a short time because of this.

Rayon also has self protection from burning, it instantly transfers juice to heat to prevent itself from burning till the last second then holds just enough to keep itself from burning, this is when the coil overheats and the wick is dry.

So rayon is like a temperature control wick for kanthal. It controls coil temp with increased saturation....

The better, more correct the wick with rayon the better it will work and longer it will last.

Ive gone 300ml with one rayon wick, i never got over 20- 30 with cotton before, when i used it. I regularly go around 200ml with my juice... So i say 4-10 times longer, depending on juice.

That will work for the fev. I also use the 350 or was it 325.. and 100vg.... The 300-400 range should be fine.. 400 is easier to roll.. 250 is a little stiff to roll up for some. Please visit and post to the fev thread with these questions before it gets closed.. We will be there... I just got my mesh from mfs a long time ago- link. I also posted a video on how to roll the mesh. Link
Thanks! Will post any further questions to the FEV's thread :thumb:

agreed. you cant beat the flavor and nic hit now if I use cotton it tastes almost chalky I say get it. for the price you cant beat it cotton costs way more tastes worse and has just as many quirks.

I tried my favorite cotton wick a few days ago, and I agree. It's sort of chalky tasting. Didn't take long before I pulled it out and grabbed the rayon.

Got my Tsunami set up with a SS clapton at .09. Got the rayon just right, or close to it. Put it on the iPV5 in TC mode, set at 375° / 35J. Yessir, that's the ticket! :D

I'm trying out tencel, a type of rayon made from eucalyptus trees.
It has a different texture to other rayons I use, coarser and more springy.
In the first wick I used too much, and it constricted the vape.
The second I used much less and it's vaping fine, no flavour from the wick.
So far I'm still not happy with it. It's good but could be better.
I need to try different wicks to see if I can get a perfect vape.
If I do I'll let you know.

dear rayonati,
please intercede with the great god rayon for me. i have ordered twice from ebay. the first was never shipped and i got a refund. the second was ordered on the 18th from a new jersey vendor and STILL hasn't shown up. i usually have great luck ordering online and to have two shipments in a row not show up leads me to believe i have been rayon cursed. tomorrow is the latest delivery date shown by ebay. if it doesn't arrive i guess i'll try again from someone else.

thanks! i may have to go that route. i don't drive very much anymore as i need a hip replacement , so i try my best to shop by mail when i can. until wanting to get rayon shipped i've had great luck.
I was just poking fun, @Heartsdelight (props!) has you covered if you need it. I am in Canada so shipping Rayon to the states would be more than having the local Sally's deliver a box by taxi. :)
