On the topic of TC, I keep coming across hits and misses - and sometimes it will work for a while and then I'll gradually need to increase the power (and no, the coil wasn't gunking).
This is with all types of TC wire that I've used: ni-200, 304 SS, 316L SS, and Ti. It doesn't seem to mater whether the coils are contact or spaced. Some mods are worse than others though - like the smok Xcube II & Xcube Mini, and from it's offshoot company the Koopor Mini (which hasn't done tc AT ALL - not even once).
There's one mod now where the tc is supposed to be superb - the VOOPOO Drag.. Which is probably the mod I'll go for next. I've normally been a huge fan of TC, but lately I'm just starting to go back to watt mode.. Not to mention that several mods will just jump out of TC into watt mode on their own, anyways.
So I've even ended up using ni-200 in watt mode because of that - I'm just far more careful to avoid dry hits with that wire type (I put super-tiny removable stickers on the mods/attys to indicate current wire type). Though on the mods that do TC somewhat sort-of fairly well, I've found that Ni-200 28-guage has been the most consistent, even over thinner ni-200 guages.
On that note, I'll never buy another KangerTech MOD ever again! My Kbox-200 & Kbox-Mini (topbox), both bought within a few months of each other, have bitten the dust in less than two weeks of each other. After they were only just about a year old or so. The Kbox-200 was iffy to start since I needed to return, under FT warranty, the 1st one after 2 weeks. ...... So Kanger mods, BAAAD - Kanger atty's - GOOOOD.

BTW, I most often do vape at around 14-30 watts - so that might go toward explaining my findings on wick tightness and tail trimming.
But overall, I think overemphasizing those two aspects might turn people off to the mere thought of trying Rayon to begin with - thinking they need a PhD to use it. I would think it's just that people like Jeremy and others may have found that it could simply be most optimal to do that.
