So, one thing was has always puzzled me about the rayon. (And I've used it a couple of times, and had the same experience about the wicks being clean.)As far as TC goes, I've heard mixed things about different devices. The wick incident was pure idiocy on my part, as proved the mod had no way of sensing I had Ni80 in there, assumed it had Ni200, and failed accordingly. I use my vaporesso, Aegis and reuleaux in TC mode, and they perform pretty much the same with SS316L at a TCR of 92. My biggest TC gripe is my Modside, I really want to get that running in TC mode, but can't seem to upgrade it and as others have bricked theirs, it's something I don't want to risk.
Talking about gripes, after using Rayon for a bit, I'm actually quite frustrated. After weeks of use, my wicks are as clean and pure as the driven snow. I can change flavours at a whim, without difficult flavours like chocolate or orange lingering much. They bed in instantly, without that horrible linen taste. They don't singe or discolour. Once you get the technique right (DI is a wonderful revelation), it is a joy to work with. And it might be my imagination, but the taste is more focussed.
My SS316 coils are a different matter entirely.
When I want to change flavors: do I just rinse the atty/coil/wick and let it dry or what?
I usually just change flavors, personally.. No rinse, dry, nothin'. Although with tanks, I seem to find that they often need a dry-burn & re-wick, or else the flavor ends up being a bit strange the whole time. And when dripping, for instance, and the flavor ever becomes odd, I just re-wick. Although usually when the flavor seems odd, it's because it's the coil that's gunked.
But really, you can get as ....-retentive as you want. If you have a medically diagnosed case of OCD, then feel free to just take your time taking the rayon out, carefully rinsing, drying out in a clean room -- and then once dry, meticulously brush the rayon with a 10-micron comb to make sure each fiber is....... Ehh... You get picture.
Well, yes, you could do that, and just fluff the tails, once dry. Although as @Hoggy says, it's often time to dry burn the coil as well, so new wick is on the agenda.
Depending on the particular flavors, just adding the new may be acceptable. Going from a "lighter" flavor to a heavier one usually works ok. From strong to delicate, not so much.

I've been doing that, but don't you often come across 'old wick syndrome'? Like that weird stale taste if you haven't gotten back to a mod-atty combo in a few days? ...Actually rather similar to the stale eliquid taste I come across.
It was due to that, and the fact I can't at all reach for the full keyboard (using mini-BT KB mostly), and also that I realized I'll never be able to remember which flavor types should go into which attys... That just a couple days ago, I started tearing some of them down to put into vapocalypse storage. So now I'm down to 8 mod-attys out (that's progress from ~18), with only 4 blocking the full keyboard - but then I still got a couple dozen bottles in the way. <sigh...>
At least I was finally able to bring myself into throwing out all my ancient garbage (T3/Evod/Protank) - and crappy springy SS304 wire. So, at least some progress made in my pre-spring cleaning spurt so far.
Yes I have. But you know what? My skin has been itching since November. I've been vaping for over 4 years. And I found out one in a thousand is allergic to VG. And itching skin is one of the symptoms. What I used to have a beer once in awhile but I never got around to buying another 6 pack yet. And I am thinking maybe the alcohol flushes the VG out of my system.
I dunno. So I stopped vaping and relying on my emergency nicotine lozenges for the time being. And my skin improved. Maybe just a coincidence. So I started vaping again and the symptoms are back. But here is the point I was getting at.
I noticed not vaping for a few days, all of my vapes taste wonderful when I started again. Even those that I thought needed the wicking replaced. I now believe if you vape all of the time, you have a mild case of vapers tongue and don't even know it. Either that or the juice diluted that stale taste away.
What I've found is that rayon is more "self cleaning" than cotton, like glass V plastic it doesn't seem to absorb strong scents/flavours as well.

Well, YOU have a perfect excuse to do that. I would absolutely, without question or hesitation, seriously be doing that if rayon costed the same as diamonds from Andromeda.
No, haven't hit that. After a variable number of tanks - depending on the flavor - the taste will start to go "off" and it's time to clean and dry burn, occasionally to recoil.
I keep a 3x5 card with my in use bottles of juice. Each topper is listed in ink, with distinguishing ID. The contents are in pencil, so easy to change if needed. A checkmark - also pencil - goes on each time I refill, so I do have some advance warning that a coil might be nearing gunk stage

Oy! That's way more organized than I could ever be, even if I did use mostly tanks.
But here, I generally only have 3 tanks going at most at any given time - so it's easy to remember those. So that possibly explains why you haven't come across it yet.. I use primarily drippers since I don't often make a mix more than once, and therefore I don't usually make more than 10ml. (Hey - I'll never make a claim that my mixes are any good.. Just that they're fun. )Of course, like all mixers I presume, I have some things mass-made (50ml/120ml/480ml) for those times when we don't feel like farting around with mixing or dripping.
I don't really notice the stale as much when it comes to tanks.. Sometimes, but mainly after say, 6 months or more. (My ry4, I fell out of favor with for now.)
I lost a 30ml bottle of Yaeliq Israel Captain in the car one time. It was lodged in one of the seat rails and I found it 8 months later. Well steeped and very tasty.

I used to keep a spreadsheet for all my tanks. Logged rebuild dates, wire, wraps, ohms, wick material, flavor and refill dates. I gave up when the hard drive crashed about a year ago. Now I just rebuild and fill as needed, wing it!

With a dozen, and often with slight variations on a flavor in two or three, it get's to be a challenge.No individual tank goes more than a week or two before empty, so no long term tank steeps

I'm not allergic to VG, but I am sensitive to it. In a normal for me 50/50 blend no problem. Anything higher than 70% vg, then I'm sniffling, wheezing, coughing...Yes I have. But you know what? And, I think you might have a point about the vapers tongue.

I will still note wire type though -- on the mod (or sometimes the atty) with one of those teeny-tiny stickers. If room, I try to put gauges used for a fused clapton - since I'm half-heartedly testing that... But I definitely want to know whether it's Ni-200/SSxxx/etc.
Heck, I engraved a number on each tank and made a P-Touch label for the wire type in the tank. It all got to be a big PITA with a dozen plus tanks in use.
Haven't been to this thread in ages. Hopped straight to the last page and this is the first thing I see -They do not clank, but I get quite a few wicks out of each one!
