I have to tell you that when I'm reading your posts, you sound like an educated hillbilly..
Just saying.. lol

What's even funnier is I AM an educated hillbilly - we just call them farmers over here

You live in the mountains over there?
Here there is a delineation between farmers and general country folks (aka rednecks) and mountain folk (aka hillbillies)
@soucemore kindly sent me the v2 hastur mtl tank and the hcigar magic box to play with today.
Yes they're not new but I figured some folks over here could do with reminding how good they are as they're bargain priced currently.
Yep, in a mountain basin, so technically not a hillbilly I guess - kind of a redneck/hillbilly with a kiwi accent
Enjoy playing - going to order mine next week as a girl can never have too many RTAs![]()
Hey folksI received my Silverplay a couple of weeks ago. It's a great RTA in all respects, imo. Except, I'm not as impressed with the flavor as I thought I'd be. I'm using the small honeycomb insert and a 26g, 3mm ID, ss round wire build reading about 0.5ohms. Pretty much what 3 reviewers used.
I love everything about it except the lack of flavor. Is there something else I can do to improve it? Different build, etc.?
Ditto, except just plain ol kanthal, between.7 and .8I used the barbecue grill looking one and it's the best flavor out of any RTA I've ever owned.
So.. I bought an RDA recently and has to mess around with coil placement more than once (total of 5 times) to get the flavor right.. so you'll probably just have to reposition until you find the best position for it..
I'm running a 316L SS Fused Clapton in that, about .7 ohm with a 3mm ID if that helps you any..
You got me at better than Fresia.... taste is subjective, but that’s one of my favorites right now.I've been using the hotcig centaur mini mtl RTA for two weeks now and it's definitely a keeperThere's so little information out there on it - so I plan to do a review once I've played with it a bit more
Here's my thoughts so far:
![]()
It has a tiny profile, even 'bubbled' it only adds a few mm to it's height.
Deck:
![]()
The only annoying part of the deck, is tiny tiny hex screws. You get a tiny tiny Allen key included.
However installing a coil has been easy and quick. With 28ga I trap the legs underneath the screw. 26ga just traps in the clamp beside the screw.
I only ever had problems when I tried to install a coil face down, instead of coil up, like in the above pic.
There's also plenty of room to tuck in your wire, after the legs have been cut.
Wicking:
Pretty easy: Cut to the deck, 'floof', thin the hell out of the tails (even with cotton) and off you go.
Refilling:
![]()
'Push to fill' top fill. Big enough port for a chubby gorilla nozzle.
Absolutely no leaking when refilling, or gurgling/seeping afterwards.
Flavour:
RTA has 2 formats, 2ml or 5ml (with chamber ext. & bubble glass)

Flavour in 2ml mode is superb, almost better than the doggy RTA. In 5ml mode, you get a teeny weeny slight drop-off, but it is still on par with the doggy rta.
Airflow/Draw:
View attachment 809107
It has a 3mm id airflow hole on the deck. However it also has an extremely narrow chamber of around 3mm id. This takes away a fair bit of the potential airyness.
You can have any combination of the above holes open or closed. With only no. 5 open (2.5mm) it's the equivalent of the sjmy doggy RTA. With all holes open, it's still not as airy as the Fresia RTA wide open.
On the other side of the airflow ring is a single 2.5mm gap, so that you can restrict the airflow even more eg: only have a 1mm airflow hole open.
Overall:
I love the flavour and the draw. it's by no means miserly on juice, but it also isn't a huge drinker. The low profile look is also a huge plus for me. It also handles me chain vaping my head off
Better than the doggystyle RTA? - It beats the Fresia RTA and it is neck in neck with the doggy RTA - give me another few weeks![]()
The reason I'm using the small honeycomb is because of 3 popular reviewers saying it gave them the best flavor, lol. I did want to try a different coil so thx for your input.I used the barbecue grill looking one and it's the best flavor out of any RTA I've ever owned.

I often find what works for a reviewer or fellow ecfer isn’t what works for me. It just takes playing with it until you find your own sweet spot. I like my coil just hovering over the “bbq grill” insert. @Opinionated is right, play with it a bit and see what works for you. There’s no “perfect” way, except the one that works for youI just wanted to point out I was using a different insert than you are, but still give you my impression of the silverplay overall (i.e. better flavor than any atty I own).
It's the placement of your coil which will impact your flavor most on this atty - and what your having difficulty with. (I.e. coil placement is why your getting poor flavor out of this tank).
With any atty you have to find the best coil placement for the tank.. and if your not getting good flavor out of the silverplay, you need to move the coil somewhat until you find the best coil placement in relationship to air.
I hope that made sense..it's usually just a matter of moving your coil either up or down ever so slightly. You just have to have patience sometimes (hence, anecdotal story) to find the sweet spot.
Well, apparently following the recommendations for coil placement from the reviewers is not working for me. I am aware of that. Guess I need to find my own position or maybe it's not as flavorful as others I have and am used to. I do really like the atty, it's well made and I love the Hurricane style deck. I'm not giving up on it.I just wanted to point out I was using a different insert than you are, but still give you my impression of the silverplay overall (i.e. better flavor than any atty I own).

Agree, NolaMel. It just so happened that the reviewers I was referring to have been vapers with similar opinions/tastes as my own so I thought I'd apply their suggestions. It's worth noting that one out of the three didn't give it high scores for flavor. That wouldn't stop me, of course, just noting. Thank you for the kind words of wisdom and I like to hover my coils just over the AF, myselfI often find what works for a reviewer or fellow ecfer isn’t what works for me. Two days ago I received my Hussar Project X RTA. So far (after 2 days of using it) I love it. Vape quality is excellent, no leaks or vapor locks. Together with Hussar I received extended (5 ml) tube/chimney for my EVL Reaper and right now I want the same for Hussar. Both EVL and Hussar are clearly the best vaping RTAs I own.
