Shiny mail top is the Asmodus Galetek, bottom is the OFRF Gear. I’ll probably switch that out for the glass. Wish the bubble had been glass too. Oh well. The alien was only $8. Couldn’t pass that up. I don’t use RBAs often, and the drip tip falls off every time I open the cap. I wouldn’t have been happy to pay the original price in it but it vapes okay so far.

The silver Athena arrived, wearing a silver Etna for its maiden squonk:

The front/squonk door on this one had a very tiny bit of wobble, and a smidgen of side-side/up-down movement. A bit of careful pressure/bending has worked out nearly all the wobble (not apparent in handling, but detectable if you lightly tap the panel right at the bottom corner). A couple tiny slivers of tape on two inner edges of the frame took out the sliding movement ... at some point I'll remove the tape and apply a thin layer of cyanoacrylate gel instead (if I'm feeling steady ... and lucky).

I didn't know my phone kept track of my bank balances. I know it's the first of the month, but it was really cold out and I'm going tomorrow instead. No need for it to get an attitude with me.

The turntable listed above (the photo is cut off) actually isn't too bad a deal. There's also a Luxman vintage all tube preamp from Japan for only $4K.

There, I hope the high end vapers here now feel better. The vape stuff is a bargain.

When I complained to an audiophile friend of mine the other day about spending what I did on the rig below, he broke out laughing and said, "Hell, I just spent $10,000 on a German cartridge." I don't doubt that he did. His "stereo" cost way more than the average American home. NUTS!

I've never seen the Galatek before. How's it working for you?

I’m no expert, I only have a couple RDAs. Like I said, you gotta hold on to the drip tip or away she goes. But so far, pretty nice. Easy to build. Honestly you know I’m a sucker for crazy looking gear and that’s what sold me. But it’s usable.

There’s a ‘cage’ over the cap that’s supposed to distribute the heat, so the vape is cooler. But yeah, it looks like a face! I called it an alien but I think robot is more accurate.

Nordost Frey is cheap lamp cord in comparison to some.

Stealth Audio – Dream Royal speaker cable is $28k US for a 2 meter pair. An additional $22k for every extra meter.

Greetings fellow shiners,

I know it is really cold stateside, but it ain't too warm here in Cumbria. We have a slight layer of snow in places, and the roads are incredibly icy. In fact, it is so cold my magnetic stirrer refused to mix the 10ml samples I knocked up tonight. I had to gently warm the solution before it would even consider turning .

Debit card has been locked up after I fell into temptation at an Aegis going for 20% off including free shipping. My excuse? I accidentally dropped my Luxe not long after Christmas and managed to chip the body and there is now a slight gap on the screen, so it may not be long for this world. No more flavourings, mods, atties etc. for a good while now. I have plenty of spare batteries, bottles, wire etc. so any vape expenditure now will (quite rightly) send me into a spiral of guilt and depression, and potential spousal wrath. The next challenge is cooking up some decent ADV's, and tuning my motley array of tanks to get as much flavour out of them as I do from the Kylin 2. It really is a superb tank, but it can be a bit of a beast to wick consistently, I've had a few dry hits off it for no obvious reason.

I continue to be amazed at the flavour from the Wasp, the only 22mm atty that comes close is the Dpro mini, even then the airflow on the Wasp is "just right". I had high hopes for the Gas Mods Nixon and the Hugsvape Ringlord, but they pale in comparison. I probably need to put a heavier build in the HR than a simple spaced coil, but as I get bags of flavour from the Kylin single coil, I'm not convinced that will improve things much.

I'm pretty much squonking 24/7 now except when I go out, when I take the Luxe with a bubble tank. I don't want to be encumbered with extra batteries (no I am not buying a Topside Dual ), and so far it has never left me in the lurch. The original Topside I tried to upgrade to TC, but on my friend's PC it wasn't recognised, so I couldn't load the latest firmware. I notice on Reddit a few people have bricked theirs in the process, so I think it's wise to leave well alone.

BTW, I've found a really easy way to refill the Luxotic bottle, rather than take it out the mod and mess about trying to refit the silicon tube on the nipple, just slide the bottle off the tube, unscrew, refill and slide back.
