Thanks for the response Letitia – TBH I have not spent much time into research. DIY was something I was always interested in but have not taken it much further than reading the few posts made here and perhaps a YT vid or 2. As for the scale – despite my lack of knowledge I agree, but will most likely source something locally. I have read and seen vids where they counted drips oppose to measurement by weight. I do have a kitchen scale, but it lacks in resolution….no 0.XX

The 60ml reference was just to compare cost, and a estimated amount I am able to make in total- not the amount I am going to attempt to make on a per batch. That will be gallons ;)

The kit is based around a strawberry cream recipe, so the flavours included, which are 6 different 30ml flavours if sweetener and marshmallow are considered flavours, plus 500ml of VG, 120ml of PG and 60ml of nic based VG. It is probably not the most economical way of getting into DIY, in terms of flexibility, but it is small enough for me to at least get my feet wet and experiment a little. Guarantee I will be purchasing other flavours to attempt at mixing up something other than strawberry cream. It should arrive later this week. 100% positive I will have a ton of questions.
I got into DIY with a few syringes and some empty bottles. Just testing the waters I told myself. I will buy a scale after the next move I told myself. I am still doing DIY with Syringes and one Beaker (100ml) for the VG and PG). My investment in stuff was less then $5. Not counting flavorings~

Computer Peeps. I have malware on my computer. Lots of pop up ads. IN researching how to remove it, it seems I have to download something. How do I know what is safe to download? I tried Avast and it did not work. I get my virus protection from Norton that I get through my cable company. Any thoughts or advice?

@dom qp Bummer about the scratches. I usually run mine with two holes open and some .11-.14 coils. I haven't found it to give me any issues on a mech with a 20700 or 30T.

Maybe you got a bad one. Connectivity issues would cause those problems. The flavor on mine is in line with my Goon 1.5s and others with similar AFCs.

Honestly, DIY is the easiest thing to do in vaping. Wrapping a coil is harder. Wicking a coil is really hard. Same for spinning wire. But mixing a few things together and shaking the bottle is no work (other than prep and cleanup like cooking).

The hard part to DIY are the recipes. Until you find a few you like it can be frustrating. Once you do you're golden. Remember recipes are like commercial juices, just because I think mine is terrific you might think it's wet socks. So don't get a million flavorings to start, buy them based on a few recipes at a time. A lot less waste and lost money.

One last thing. Some like a scale. I'm old fashioned and do my liquids by measures with an appropriate size syringe. Easy, cheap, simple cleanup, so don't feel the need to invest in a scale to start. You might never use it. Also, another last thing. Two parts of your mixing should be accurate. The amount of nic (and double check your DIY calculator to know it's the right strength) and the flavorings (a little of this or that doesn't usually work out too well). PG, VG not so much. Not infrequently I'll mix everything in the bottle, nic, flavors, and PG, then just top off with VG if I made the recipe to the bottle size. If I'm off by 2 ml it won't matter in a 60 ml bottle.

Keep it simple, don't get frustrated when recipes raved about are terrible and you'll be fine. After two or three good mixes down you're golden.

Which programs are you being encouraged to download? Ic can't remember what I used when I had a similar problem, but I'll recognize the names if I see them.

I've had good luck with Bitdefender. You want something that will do a boot scan at startup.

Bitdefender Antivirus Free - Download Free Antivirus Software

Also, try the Microsoft malicious software removal tool. Also free.

Download Malicious Software Removal Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center

What version of windows are you running and what sort of anti-virus stuff are you currently using? And when you say lots of pop up ads I'm assuming that's in your browser, right?

Thanks! I do have a 5ml syringe and a bunch of mixing and measuring glasses I use for whipping up cocktails – day is not complete without a nice martini!

I’m pretty confident DIY will work out for me, but I am proceeding a bit on the side of caution, hence the cheaper kit. Looking forward to it.

I bought a scale because I got a recipe book that used weight measures for baking. I’m a good baker. Everything I’ve made by weight came out bad. By volume, it’s all good. So I’d imagine that juice recipes that we do by volume will need to be translated and modified. I’m just not ready to bother.

But either way, it’s all about measuring precisely and being consistent. Once you have a good recipe you only need to note it to repeat it.

I did get that missing pod today, but no signs of movement on the Lustro. Not too worried. It’s been an awful day. Better it came when I’d appreciate it.

When I start, I'll be looking for a promising citrus, a promising berry, and a promising mint chocolate (I'll be switching from RY4 to unflavored, so I won't have to think about tobaccos). I'll mix 10-15 mls of each and see if I like the results. Once I get three recipes I like, I may play with others, but I might not even have the urge.

I followed someone in a TFA thread once and made everything they made and it all sucked. Then I made a Pistachio RY4 that rocked so I just kept making it over and over again and that was my DIY for about 6 months. Then I veered away from all things TFA and recipes came out better. Not that I do not use TFA but I found other things I like more. I agree with find a few recipes you like and that have good reviews and make no more than 30ml batches and wait at least two weeks to try them because I think everything needs to steep and true shake and vape is rare.

I've been lurking there for weeks! Got it open in a tab at this very moment, in fact.

Also, do consider whipping up a small batch of unflavored at your normal nic level first --- it can be quite good and satisfying itself; is a good way to test any new nicotine you get; and you get to know your base ingredients before mucking about with flavors.

Advise taken.

And yes, unflavoured is one of my plans. Thanks! :thumb:

Ahhhh... I don't think so. I think it just had way too much mass (was hitting it at >7V). Going to rebuild now with lower mass so it hits hard at lower voltages.

Cap sucks but I have my trinity glass bullet cap arriving tomorrow or Thursday. If they won't ship me a new one or give me partial credit I just won't order from them again and use the bullet cap anyways.

Edit: Working good at 70-80W now, ~3.7-3.8V. Going to pop it onto my hybrid tube once i'm done writing my X217 review.
