Yes that looks promising but I can't really see it well enough to judge the standard properly. Am I seeing matt/dull patches in places or is that just the photography??

Is acrylic the right thing to blend well?

There aren't any matte/dull patches, just problematic photography -- it's shiny/reflective all over. In the final pic, you can see the rectangle of my black phone/camera reflection ... the colors inside that area (at least until my finger shows up lower down) look richer because the phone is 'shadowing' it from a of lot scattered light reflecting off the white ceiling. Once it fully cures and I can stand it up vertically I may be able to get a more representative picture.

Acrylic paints, various pigment/mica powders, metallic flakes, alcohol inks, and even nail polish can be used as "dyes" for resin ... as long as you keep the pigment ratio down to 10% or less (or you'll begin to have problems with the resin curing properly).

They're gorgeous and so adorable! :) The patterns are amazing, so very intricate. In the first image her shell has those little tear droplet markings, but the second one has almost like a Greek Key pattern running around the edge of the shell. Such variation. They look especially stunning when you photograph them against the plants. Thanks for sharing.

I've been doing this since I was 11 years old and I am 50 now. It just simply never gets old and I am amazed every year.... Some days during the Spring and Summer months are akin to waking up on Christmas morning as a child.

@jandrew I've just had a brainwave.....and yes it is June already  To make mould for direct pour resin in shape of doors take a piece of plasticine or something similar and then press the existing doors into it until perfectly flush. Then trim excess and bobs your uncle :)

@Vape Muppet my best wishes for your dad as well. Hopefully the antibiotics will knock the infection down quickly.

I've been offering my services in various threads. I can swallow at least 8 single battery mods.

I imagine tube mods would be preferable than box mods, but even then, retrieval cannot be fun.

Oh, batteries are really really bad. Stomach acid breaks down and mixes with the Li concoction in them and is real good for chewing holes through your stomach. It's actually a real issue with those coin batteries for small devices that kids end up swallowing.

Not that a stacked tube mod will be a walk in the park either. But thanks for the effort!

I know it's sacrilegious but my brother-in-law has used his immaculate Triumph to round up sheep ;) - he hasn't used the Harley for that purpose however, thank god

This advert is pretty typical rural NZ - and yes, the BIL also has a red Hilux ;)

Those Hilux's are really impressive. I first started to like them after Top Gear went on an artic expedition with one.

Ï want one :)

it's funny how some of the oldies that I didn't like 30 years ago are more cool looking now :)

I still prefer the oldies over modern vehicles, especially those from the 30's to 50's hot rods to the early to mid 70's muscle cars. Same with the scooters, the old motorcycles over the so called modern wonders. Some of that maybe because most of mine were the oldies and the last street bike I bought new was in 1983. I was not a Ford fan (despite working for a Ford dealership when is was 15). but of the ThunderChickens I liked the '55's-58's best. This one was a very comfortable ride, had way more power than it needed despite its weight so I bought it because I always wanted as much American steel around my ex (and son) to protect them in case of an accident. This 'Bird had around 4300 pounds of it. I wasn't worried at all about her driving causing a wreck... she had never had a driving or parking ticket in her life and the only wreck she had ever been in was when she was driving my 1970 El Camino (in 1972) and a guy ran a stop sign and hit the drive side just behind the door. No injury at all to her, and not all that much to the car either. It was just one of our r rides at the time, but we both liked driving it so I kept that car for 12 years before selling it, the longest I had ever owned one up to then.

My last street scooter was a 1983 rice burner... a VT750 Shadow. After that it was ATV's mostly.

I mentioned before about possibly giving the panels/doors on my Inbox a makeover with acrylic -- still experimenting. However, I did get some artist resin, used acrylic paints for dyeing the resin (in the colors I'm thinking of using), and did a first 6" x 8" experiment. There are some flaws/errors (too close with the torch in a few places, overworked in a few places, and overall a little short on the resin), but I think it shows promise for sort of a spacey/nebulous kind of theme. Hard to photograph due to shiny/reflectiveness, but here's a pic of the whole thing, and a few close-ups of interesting sections:

Next I'll have to prep some 2" x 3" panel/door size cardboard pieces to see what techniques might work on such tinier surfaces ... might have to repurpose some ejuice mixing syringes or something.
I think those turned out great. :thumb:

just saw a 70s stingray in red. my favourite model.
in non shiny news, and i don't condone it, got my wife the full version of office 2019 (i use libre) and due to working for a large educational institution it set me back the princely sum of £22. still too much if you ask me.
did buy 2 vtcas with polar bear wraps to redress the balance. they'll be mostly living in the luna which is still doing the butterfly stroke west.
also been eying that gloom clone. maybe on the 4th.

Did you see the episode where they tried to kill the Hilux using various methods until they parked on a beach and allowed the tide to submerge it all night....and you've guessed it they got it started :)

They are so cute and stunning at the same time

@jandrew - you know that once you have your method down pat, we'll all be wanting custom doors made by you right? ;)

Could be a way to go ... I suspect I'd have to go through a few steps to make silicone moulds of the doors for casting the resin, but it might be an option.
