Morning all. A brisk 40 degrees, it was chilly when I took Rudy out. Georgia is waiting until either it warms up, or I make her a sweater.

She had a really nice one last year but lost it in the yard. I just found it last week, in the arborvitae.

I saw something about AsMODus having a warehouse sale I think this weekend, maybe next week. That’s on site, but I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for an online sale.

Chilly good morning Shiny's

You too? Chilly here to. At least the winds died down a bit. Still enough to make 54 feel like 44 though. I'm hoping for a little warmer weekend. Have a walk for suicide prevention this Sunday which is held in downtown Manhattan close to the water. That's always good to know the temps down, but at least it will be sunny. It's always held very close to my birthday, so we'll get to celebrate that after the walk.

Happy Friday!!

It’s pay day Friday for me! Got an awesome pay check too the biggest one I’ve had in a while . I should be getting my new squonker today according to Canada post. Just a cool little fully mechanical squonker for 40 bucks. I gotta work this Sunday though and count inventory for at least a half day. Oh well more money I guess.

I avoid the lakes around here like the plague when temps drop. Huge kudos to you.

My daughter and I ran across this little sweetie and her daughter playing in traffic in front of a beaten down house on a highway. We stopped to tell the peeps their dogs were in the street. The lady was losing her home, her boyfriend would not let the dogs stay inside and she had no way to contain them. We gave our phone number in case she needed help rehoming. She called the next day, one had been run over and she wanted to give up the other. We picked her up. Of course she was covered in fleas, so I took her for a groom. I put an expensive flea collar on her and made an appointment for spay (she is also in heat), vaccines, de-worm and heartworm test. She went today and the bad news is she is heartworm positive. Treatment for heartworms is $900-1,500.

I haven’t been able to get this dog off my mind all night. Are you going to be able to get her treated? Is the prognosis good?

I was thinking about this while reading stuff from a shelter I follow. Someone from the neighborhood asked about adoption fees. I think they said $150 for the dog she was asking about. And she replied how that’s too expensive, do they ever drop the rates, maybe for holidays or if the dog has been there too long?

I told her, if you can’t afford the fee, how are you going to afford the dog? Heart worm meds, flea drops, shots, food...

Any of us could find ourselves in financial distress. Trust me, I know how lucky I’ve been that I landed on my feet after my husband died. I was scared I’d lose my house for a while.

But to already BE struggling... I know this person has a Habitat house, and a special needs child who she has done more than one Go Fund Me for. The roof is rotting right off their house and her car looks like a piñata.

I’m not judging. She’s doing the best she can. But the last thing she needs is another financial burden.

Dogs bring a comfort and presence to a home that you simply cannot put a price tag on. Frankly even if all she can do is feed, use flea control, and love the dog it's enough. The dog and human's lives will both be vastly improved with or without the other expenses. Just my opinion as a low income dog owner. My animals have full bellies, much love and safety, it's better than what they had and it's enough.

42F here. For this time of year it's still tropical. Still seeing people in shorts and t-shirts for trips to the store.

Was a bit chilly this morning when we woke up as it dropped below 0 and we left the window open. Nothing my Uggs slippers can't deal with though.

Supposed to get back up to 68 on Monday - good thing I didn't put the AC away yet.

I do agree that they could use the comfort. But they’re one flat tire from destitute now.

I've been homeless and jobless and still managed to feed my dog. It really takes very little of the budget to keep a pet.

I think it's less about having a budget and more about caring for your pets.

I guess it's like kids. I see FB posts from old classmates complaining that they don't have money to buy their kids lunches and it's ridiculous that they have to buy some school supplies for them (used to be provided by the school). Then the next picture in their feed is their new manicure.
