I wish I could just have two good toppers--one with blister-pack coils and one rta. I don't want a unicorn. I just want simple, reliable and user-friendly. Zlide has been very good to me in the first category; so good, in fact, that I stopped rebuilding my RTAs lately. But with all those regulations and bans hanging over our heads, I had to revisit and re-evaluate my rta stash. I have a bunch of good and reasonably good ones, but no great ones. There's always something that annoys me with every single one of them.

Sorry for the rant. I have great hopes for the Ares and some hope for the Dvarw.

Thanks again for all your (and all y'all's here) help.

Ranting is always allowed here - this thread was created by the original fantastic ranter @jfcooley after all ;)

Batteries - definitely difference in sizes, I think my Molicel p26a's are the fattest, then Samsung 30q, then 25r. But I've rewrapped my 25r's so I might be wrong. This site lists the average dimension of each cell:
    18650 Batteries - Rechargeable 3.7V Li-Ion Cells - 18650 Battery Store

Noted and bookmarked. Very useful site for sizes :) and I think i even figured out the not know battery I was using for the Fetch Pro which it was a Panasonic one at least it isn't a non branded one but is not mine so I will need to return it soon lol

and you aren't a PITA, not even close. Our beloved @virm gets that title ;)(I'm kidding Virmy )

I had a look around some kiwi sites. I'd get this kit:
GeekVape DIY Mini Tool Kit V2
It's $10nz cheaper than FT and it has everything you will need except for elbow/curved tweezers, which you can get at a pharmacy
    View attachment 894935
The Gear RTA comes with 2x 3mm cotton threads, and a framed staple clapton (0.33 ohm 28+38x9+28+36 3mm N80 Coil (40 to 55W Recommended ))

For a few builds to figure out what you are doing, maybe get some ss316l 26ga (20-40watts) wire:
    SS316L Wire by Kidney Puncher
    or grab these pair of coils in a fused clapton (3mm id 28*2/36 6 wraps 0.5ohm - 30-45watts) :
N80 Prebuilt Coils by Kidney Puncher

    and some cotton:
Cotton Bacon Prime by Wick N Vape
    or
    COTN Threads

and the hardest thing about your first build is simply that you are doing something new. Watch a few YT videos on it, and find which one gives you the most info on installing a coil and wicking.

I built my first RTA by following every step the reviewer did. Once it was built, juiced up and ready to go - I vaped it, fully expecting a mod explosion or juice leaking everywhere. What happened? absolutely nothing, and it tasted frickin fantastic. I felt like I'd taken the first steps on the moon :D

Thank you Ange for such useful info, you covered all I needed YAY. All added to cart..waiting to pull the trigger

Looks interesting but dunno how his fill system will hold up.
    Im curious.....

I like that. Never got any regulated Pulse mods. may have to go for that one. Bottle setup looks better than the luxotic and never had issues with that one.

For tight MTL I have been happy with my Cthulu Hastur Mini. I don't know much about mtl gear but I really like the draw it has. It's well made too.

Funny, I was just looking at the Mini--but it's, at least on paper, too tight for me. My sweet spot is somewhere between 1.8-2.5mm diameter hole under the coil. I know, the Goldilocks syndrome. That's why I like the big Hastur, even though that hex nut on top drives me nuts, but it's been sold out everywhere for a long time. I even emailed Cthulhu mods to find out if it's been discontinued. Or maybe they are working on V2 sans nut? :D

@AngeNZ @Aliraonz are these dollars like Aussie or Kiwi or something or is all these expensive? it has coiling jigs this which is good. but you whreelly need them elbows..

after i gave everyone a headache i boght the Wotofo tool kit, it had the stuff i felt i need, including the elbow tweezers. dieses:

Authentic Wotofo Vape Tool Kit for DIY Building

at the time i didn't think i'd be wrapping so i didn't mind their jig which is more for placement than wrapping, though you can wrap with it i guess.

i got this in the end, which i does remmocend
    $5.08 YC Vape E-Cigarette Wire Coiling Jig Tool Kit - 2mm + 2.5mm + 3mm + 3.5mm heads at FastTech - Free Shipping

prebuilts i've only tried N80 cheap stuff for DL. Coilology and Wotofo. Quad Cores and framedstaplefused/aka multistrands i recommend for flavour and thicktexture. i do not recommed simple/dual fuseds or simple round. i have yet to try flat stuff (though i've PITA'd angie and everyone else abtem on more than one occazyonne, just too lazy to place an order)

wrapping DL i've only done Wotofo Quads. easy and really good. not as cheap as coilology but not unreasonable. I'm not sure if i'm ordering wtofos framedstaple or coilology's multistrand spool next (same thing). i'm also going to try aliens and flats. been in cart(s) for months now, but so has my backache, lol.

Thanks Letitia it has been bookmarked too for future reference. Hmm if I remember correctly you vape nic-salts in a DL style? if so how many mgs if I may ask. I have found that nic-salt minimise the coughing and also since I can go a bit higher dull the cravings almost to zero which is a win in my book.
Mix my base (vg, dw, salts 250mg) at 9mg. Occasionally I mix up a small batch of 12mg if I can't vape often.

I have a pulse 80 and the original mech somewhere lol.
I think this one has some potential. My concern is whether or not the fill cap on the bottle is plastic. If it is breaking becomes a concern making the bottle useless. I need to go back and look closer or see if he actually says.
All ive found is a china site listing it at 65. I guess thats on par with most.........

So if anyone happens to purchase the Lost Vapes Centaurus and has leaking in the 510 into the battery compartment of the mod apparently that's perfectly fine and you should just not use tanks that have eJuice or a rebuildable that might have a slight amount of leaking.. it wasn't leaking badly it was a tiny tiny leak from a rebuildable atomizer probably two drops of eJuice and it found its way into the battery compartment there was no visible Ejuice on the top of the mod so it definitely wasn't a bad leak. It's kind of confusing that every other Chinese company that puts out products way less expensive than Lost Vape does not consider having an unsealed 510 to be okay but a supposedly high-end company thinks that's just perfectly fine. When I bought the luxotic I knew that it had a leaking problem and I had to modify it. I paid $7 for that so I was fine with it I paid even less for this because I simply won it. And it was becoming my favorite mod because it's beautiful and it's a DNA. I just wanted people who may be considering purchasing it to know that they may need to modify the product or use it without eJuice.

Now I didn't pay for the product I won it otherwise I would be furious. It'll make a very pretty paperweight.

    From Lost Vape
    "Dear Patricia,
I got a reply from our quality team.
Our chips is eliquid proof, this situation would not affect the function.
And please the leaking is because of your tank, if the tank is leaking badly then please replace another tank.
    Thank you so much!"
I wasn't expecting a return or anything just some suggestions or at least acknowledgement that they just don't seem to be able to manage 510s. I'm still happy that I won it. I just don't want anyone to purchase it thinking that they're going to receive a product that was manufactured to be used with eJuice. It's completely possible that this is a one off.. but the general idea that a device shouldn't be made in a way that ensures it doesn't Leak with the slightest presence of eJuice may come as a surprise to some people as I feel it's pretty industry-standard to acknowledge that e-cigarettes may come in contact with e-juice and should be protected. I'm glad that they sealed the chip

I have realised that it looks like not all 18650 batteries are quite the same hmmm size? Some look somehow fatter  and I am having trouble with a tight fit on a Fetch Pro which makes the battery latch wobble and hard to close. Bought some molicel ones and same problem, a friend here suggested the Samsung 25R or Sony VTC6 (this one has been hard to find in NZ and when I did they are dearer than the Samsung) . Help please before I end up buying even more batteries . Can anyone confirm which one will have the lesser hmm or let's say slimmer

Re-wrapping the battery with a thinner wrap could make the difference. I bought some transparent wraps (thin) and the first time I used one to to replace a wrap on an 18650 whose jacket got torn, all of a sudden the battery was rattling back and forth in the mod. I had to put a bit of tape around it to keep it quiet.
